Chapter 5: Confusion or confusion?

A chill ran down in my spine at mom’s tone.

What is she talking about?

“What?” I asked.

“Let’s start-from where shall I start this? Um….” Mom looked around.

“Ok. Let’s talk about your powers first.”

“Powers?” I wondered.

‘‘Yes, Jul, powers. The supernatural powers you possess from the day you were born.

What do you think about of it?”

Really now?

I gulped, “I, uh … they are … cool? I mean, like, they are the coolest thing ever, not like the ‘Avengers’ cool, but pretty close to that, I guess? And..uh….” I closed my mouth as I realized there’s nothing more I could say. Mom sighed.

“Not like that,Jul. I meant your powers, do you think they are-normal?’’

That struck me. Very hard. The way mom said ‘normal’ was enough to initiate my insecurities again. The insecurities I have from childhood.

You see, the thing is, I know that my powers are not typical on any scale. You’d think that owning some farming powers can make you look like a gangster or something. Trust me, it doesn’t. Yeah, it’s got some thrilling feels but it can make you anxious too. Especially at the time you realize you don’t get along with the surrounding people. You become socially awkward.

Fine by me.

But it doesn’t stay in this way when people judge and misinterpret your action. I’ve seen people in my school muttering things about the sweet yet mute girl in our class.

Yo, I think she’s deaf, too. (No, she isn’t, you dumbo)

Do you think she is on drugs? (*Cough*, yeah, right.*cough*)

Don’t go to her, she’s a weirdo. (Excuse me?)

And I can’t even bring myself to tell you the nasty things spoken about the one awkward guy in our school.

I was no good either. Thankfully, I didn’t catch any dirty things about me (or else I would break their teeth) and nobody bullied me, (or else my dad would break their teeth) and made a few friends. But the judging eyes of the society for being an awkward introvert just didn’t stop. Now everyone talks about me like this-

“She is not normal.”

So when mom said that, my anxiousness kicked in. My right hand was already wet because of holding the ice pack, now my left hand started drenching in sweat too.

“N-no.” I answered.

Isn’t that obvious, mom? Are you also finally judging me, too?

Then can you please think how you have these powers when both of us don’t have any of them?’’ mom asked again.

I felt like I’m sitting in a math exam.

“I don’t know.” I firmly replied.

Mom sighed, “But I know.”

Wait—what?

“I know how you have these powers? Do you want to know too?”

I nodded slowly. My mind still couldn’t process what was going on. It was like I’m lost in a dark, hazy place where I could’’t get any help.

Mom paused for a second before saying- “Well, let me tell you a story then.”

And the next hour was the most crucial ride I’ve ever had. Even Disneyland’s roller coaster can’t beat it to the competition of getting bumpy.

Let’s tell the story exactly how mom said-

“Me and your father got married at a very young age. We were happy, youthful and so lively. After spending some years gleefully together, we decided to take a child.

But alas, fate wasn’t on the side of us. We tried to take children for a while, but no avail. Then we went to the doctor, and she gave us the news-we can’t ever have our own children.

That information broke me. Suddenly, the bright world became empty and dull. A child-no matter how it is, completes a couple’s life. And it had also become a part of my life unintentionally I couldn’t break it.”

“And I-I did something I wasn’t supposed to.”

Suddenly, mom’s voice broke. Tears brimmed in the corner of her eyes. She gnawed her lips, an annoying expression on her face.

“Celestian,” she called. “You tell the rest.”

“What rest, Sally?” dad mocked. “Isn’t the rest a history?” but stopped when mom gave her ultimate glare.

“Ok.” He sighed dramatically and looked at me. “Let’s go through this together, buddy.”

‘‘After the incident, Sally became very glum. I was not in my best state, either. After someday, we had moved on for my work to a beautiful countryside and rented a house beside a big forest.

Everything was going on its own accord when in a trice, Sally started to visit inside the forest and spend time until dawn. Mattered little though, I always returned from work from 8 to 9 pm.

So it was quite cool. I kinda appreciated Sally’s visit (I still regret doing it) to the forest, as she wasn’t woeful like before and even started humming songs while working. I was ecstatic, thinking that forest tours are finally giving feedbacks. Great.

But oh boy, was I wrong about that.

I knew I was totally gone that moment when one day; I came back to our house to see Sally missing and red, fresh blood circulating on the floor.

A/N: Hiiiii :D this chapter is really short, I apologize. I was sick while writing this.
