8 Chapter 1 (Chosen)

Alex Barton can be described as an everyday normal person; aside from the fact that he spends most of his time watching anime and reading novels.

Now he is 22 years old. But due to his poor grades, he couldn't get a good job for himself. His family is made up of 4 members, his father with his mother, and his big sister.

Alex's elder sister Ava is a Doctor; she can be considered an accomplished doctor. His mother runs a restaurant while his father Barton owns a company, whose net worth is more than 1 Million US dollars. And his mother (Mai) is a very generous and sweet lady, but this father is the complete opposite of that. Although he is always strict with him, he still loves him dearly.

Although his family wasn't rich, they still were very well-off. His father even opened a convenience store for him. Since it wasn't easy for him to get a job, this ensured that he wouldn't be wasting all his time staying at home.

Alex can be considered a little fat, his face is just average and he isn't good at studies. Because of this, he never had any girlfriend. While this may make him depressed, he isn't willing to change himself. Beacuse he likes his carefree life, and he doesn't have much desire in life anyway.

"Thanks! for the purchases," said Alex to the customers and began closing the store. Today only the two workers that work at his Convenience Store have taken a day off.

The reason behind it is simply because both of them are a couple. And right now, they were on vacation; probably it will take them 3 more days to return to work. After closing the store, Alex decided to walk back home. His house isn't that far away from his store and today was full moon night, so he decided to enjoy the scenery while walking back home. Looking at the beautiful moon that was shining over his head, Alex forgets about the time.

Looking at the beautifully glowing moon, Alex didnt even notice that he was in front of his house already. "Wait a sec, why do I feel something huge is about to happen"? Alex mumbles to himself while thinking, 'Forget it. My imagination is running wild again; I should stop watching anime all night'. Looking at his home, which was a double story building. Alex walks inside and said, while opening the main door of the house, "I am home!".

Walking inside the house, Alex saw his big sister coming out of the bathroom only in a towel. The moment Ava saw Alex, she gives him a cold stare before walking back inside the bathroom. 'What the hell is she doing walking around with only a towel?' Alex no longer bothered about this matter and walks back to his room, which was upstairs.

The relationship between him and his sister hasn't been good for the past few years. It all started a few years ago; when he started losing interest in studies. After constantly getting compared to his sister, Alex starts to blame her for all his shortcomings.

Because of that, he started to distance himself from his sister and even starts to make her life a little difficult. But that was until one day his sister came to his room when he was 18 or maybe older and said to him, "Enough is enough."

After that day he hasn't talked to her much. Coming back to his room, Alex changed his clothes and went back downstairs to eat something. Walking inside the kitchen, Alex saw his food on the table. Sitting on the table, Alex started eating the food. After taking a bite, Alex almost burned his tongue. 'It's still hot,' Alex thought to himself.

After he was done eating, Alex washed the dishes and walked out of the kitchen. "Eh!" Just as he comes out of the kitchen, Alex saw his big sister walking out of the bathroom. Seeing Alex, Ava didn't even cast him a glare and start walking upstairs. And Alex follows behind her beacuse, like Alex, her room was also upstairs.

Ava quickly went to her room, and with a loud *thud*, the door of her room was closed.

When Alex walked past Ava's room, he couldn't hear a single voice. Like always, she was completely ignoring him. Every time he walks past her room, the only thing he heard is silence and nothing else. Alex's sister Ava used to sleep extremely late at night, but due to the event 6 months ago, everything has changed completely.

At that time, his results were out. Because he didn't have any good grades, and he was having the worst day of this life. But due to some noises coming out of her room, he started yelling at her.

Although before this, the relationship between them wasn't good, they still would talk to each other from time to time. But after this fight, it was like they don't even live in the same house anymore.

Listening in dead silence, Alex sighed and walked towards his room closing the door of his room with a boom! The moment he closed the door of his room, Ava opened the door of her room and peeked at Alex's room. No one knew what she was thinking.

After coming inside his room, Alex directly walked towards his bed and get ready to sleep. But the moment he lay down on the bed, a voice sounded in his head.

[Ding! Selecting 7 peoples from all around the world 129639748 to take part in Trial Land and determine the fate of World 129639748 known as Earth by the people of the world.]

When Alex heard a voice in his head, he tried his best to open his eyes. But for some unknown reason, he couldn't feel his body anymore. 'What the hell is happening to me.'

But before he can figure out what exactly is happening to him, a strange-looking panel appears in front of his face with the same voice.

[Ding! The selected 7 only have 7 days of Earth time to prove that their world is worthy; to be a part of the Ascension System]

As the voice stopped, Alex felt his conscience return back to his body. He couldn't describe what he was feeling right now; it was like a few moments ago he was a soul without a body. But now he once again had his body back. When Alex opened his eyes, he was shocked. Right now; he is inside a strange looking forest. But before he can understand what exactly was happening; that strange voice once again sounded in his head.

[Ding! Every single chosen of Earth has to complete 10 quests; if one of the users has completed their quests ahead of time. He/she can help others chosen to complete their quests and thus increasing the chances of Earth becoming a part of the Ascension Systey]

[Ding! The first objective is to kill a hundred Demonic bats in a nearby cave. For further information, the user must unlock his status. The Way to unlock Status is to Kill any creature; be it a Monster, beast, or Animal in Trial Land]

After that notification, he starts to panic. "Wait...wait, what exactly is happening here?" Looking around, he becomes even more confused. For some reason, he was inside a strange forest with a strange voice in his head. Any normal person would start to panic if they found themself in this type of situation.

But then, Alex's Otaku senses took over him, and he starts to consider everything from a different perspective. Right now, he is in a strange forest. Perhaps he transmigrated to some fantasy world, but then he remembers the notifications that sounded in his head.

After thinking long and hard for ten minutes, he finally comes to a few conclusions. First of all, this Ascension System is a System that will help their world become a fantasy world like the world in some novels. Secondly, he is one of the seven chosen that will determine the fate of the Earth. Meaning if the seven chosen complete their quests, then Earth has a chance at becoming a fantasy world.

But then a thought crosses his mind, 'If the World turns into something like in those novels. Then the whole of humankind can be in danger. And there is no guarantee that humans can become strong after becoming a part of this Ascension system. Can I endanger the whole humanity?

But what if we humans are always endangered of being destroyed by some aliens? Can I decide something as important as this?'

"Wait, does it even matter? We are already strong; maybe this is the thing that stops the wars from continuing any longer." Remembering the state of the world, Alex starts to reconsider.

"Should I do as the system told me? since I know animes and novels don't mostly show the dark side of these fantasy worlds. But I know reality can be cruel...

Forget it; there is no use thinking about this stuff." Alex mumbles to himself.
