Hearing Mitsuna's question, Empathy looked her in the eyes with a serious face.

'Too young to know.' Empathy thought.

"You'll find out yourself sooner or later. There are still stories going around about it to this day. Especially with the Update that happened a few years ago."

"What is the Update?"

Empathy's serious face disappeared and got replaced by one of disbelief and disappointment.

"... They didn't even tell you that?"

Shaking her head, Mitsuna waited for an explanation.

Hearing a really really long sigh, Empathy muttered while leaning back and looking at the ceiling.

"It wasn't even that long ago. What next? Not tell her about what the newspaper says?"

Empathy lowered her head and looked towards Mitsuna.

"The Update is an event that changed the world."

"How?"

"Precisely 5 or 6 years ago a 'being' was born on this planet. She bore the name Mizuki Murasaki and most believe that she was the cause of the Update. Reports say she was a slime with over the top abilities for her level. She turned to crime like any other being with power would and started sailing the seas as a pirate.

She stole, a lot. Hundreds of platinum coins that were being stored in preparation for a big auction and everything that was supposed to be sold at the auction. By the account of a surviving member from her crew 'She was... terrifying yet oddly sweet and charming, you would never guess how strong she actually was after your first meeting.'.

That woman just so happened to be near a Sanctuary Spawn never before seen on this world, a World Rank.

Surprisingly, she cleared it with minimal help even though every country was waiting to enter and clear it, she finished before any army could step foot inside.

After it cleared it was quiet for a while. People were celebrating.

Then suddenly the 3 ancient fruits were gathered together. No one knows who did it but it is suggested that Mizuki herself completed the set.

After they were gathered the update started to commence, during which Mizuki gained a Divinity and started a war.

The war took place entirely on the sea with the Pirate Lords as her enemies.

In the end, Mizuki died while only 1 of them was left alive.

A moment after her death, a notification rang out just as the Update completed and the world changed forever.

It was an [Error] .

The system suddenly went on pause.

A day later all functions resumed but something changed. It seemed as though with her death, Mizuki changed the very System that restrains even gods.

After the System came back online, it started introducing more features and functions like inventory and talent while also changing some skills, how to get them and balancing the advance of power.

And with the Update, the world enlarged and many continents rose from the sea, carrying new plant life and living creatures.

Till this day, Mizuki is considered the only person who achieved enlightenment in this world.

"That was the short version? It felt like the plot of a long book."

"The long version holds many more details. There actually is a book about it as well. It sold quite well and was written by one of Mizuki's surviving crew members."

'For some reason, it seems oddly familiar.' Mitsuna dismissed the thought the moment it came into her mind.

"Anything else you want to know?"

"...What will I be learning here?"

"The sword."

"Is there anything else too?"

"Well, you need classes on common knowledge as well. But I don't give those so no."

"Then what will I be learning about the sword?"

"How to use Techniques."

"What do you mean Techniques?"

"Well, I know that you know what the word itself means."

"Yes."

"Sword Techniques are ways of handling the sword. They are often referred to as styles by the common folk but they're dumb."

"Why?"

"A Style is the normal way you attack and defend. Techniques are like special moves you integrate into your Style. For example, My Style is named Sky but I use a lot of Techniques to have more advantages in battle."

"Can you show me?"

"Sure. Let's go outside then."

Following her teacher outside, Mitsuna sat down and paid close attention.

Empathy took her rapier and got into a fencing stance.

Suddenly wings appeared behind her and flapped once.

A moment later, the tree she was facing was cut in half, many times.

Dust only flew out after the chopped wood hit the ground.

"See that? That's a Style."

'That is really cool.'

"And this is with a Technique."

Empathy got into a slightly different stance and closed her eyes. Her rapier started slight vibrating and gave off the presence of the sun.

Slightly lowering her rapier, she opened her eyes and the chopped wood burned to ash that was then cut to shreds immediately after.

'That is some high-level sh*t. I would be dead in an instant if I were a tree.'

"See the difference?"

"One was cooler?"

"Look again."

"The fire didn't use mana?"

"Ding! Correct. Techniques don't use any mana but achieve a similar effect to spells and magic circles."

"How?"

"Techniques are special as they use a special way of looking, breathing and hearing. It's a little like using the power of your soul but at the same time it's not like that at all."

"And I will be learning that?" Mitsuna pointed at the ass and cinders left t the location of the tree.

"Pft. No way B. You need to level up and develop your Style first."

"Okay."

"You can create your own Techniques after that."

"Understood." Mitsuna nodded with eyes full of expectation.

"Great. Now go to sleep. Wake up early tomorrow."

The next morning, Mitsuna's previously expectant eyes were now dull.

"Teacher?"

Trying to wake up her teacher, she could not even get her to move.

"Why are you waking me up without even preparing breakfast? Go hunt and level up, I'll train you myself then."
