2 A New Life

A newborn child of a small village opened its eyes for the first time. He looked up at his mother. She met his eyes with tears in her eyes and a bright smile spread across her face. She can't keep her emotions reigned in any longer and the tears go from decorating her beautiful green eyes to flowing down her smooth and fair skin, before eventually falling onto the body of her new child. Yes HER child!

"Welcome, Emyr, I've waited 9 long months, and I finally get to meet you!" With those words the woman seems to relax, she layed back, still holding her new baby boy, Emyr, and she sleeps, whilst several women hurry to clean and care for the new mother and child.

Within minutes the room is spotless, the mother and child both washed and now resting. Finally a burly man with tears in his eyes is allowed into the room. He sees his wife and child laying on the bed and almost runs to them, before he can though, he is stopped by a grey-haired woman.

"Erik, Emyr is doing fine, and so is Lyla. Please, let them rest, I had you brought in to alleviate your worries. By the next moon Lyla will be walking and working again, but not before then." The man, Erik, nods his head in acknowledgement.

"I understand Elder Annya. Thank you for letting me see them, I-I must be off now." The man turns his body back to the door, yet his gaze cannot leave the peaceful faces of his new family. "A family huh?" His words are barely heard under his breath but the ear-to-ear smile that quickly spreads across his face is impossible to miss. He hurrys out of the house into the dark nighttime woods. Even with a new family, work does not wait.

Above all of this action and commotion, a strange light watched from above, it is neither the moon nor a star. Yet it is as bright as both. It shimmers slightly, and the sounds of night begin to sing like never before.

Erik returns to his house after yet another day in the forest, hunting and chopping lumber. He walks into his home and sees his wife and son sitting near the fireplace. There is nothing burning as it is mid-summer, yet it is relaxing nonetheless. Lyla turns toward him as he enters. She smiles brightly.

"Welcome home darling."

"I'm home dear." Erik leans forward and kisses his wife. He then reaches to the side and picks up his precious son. "Hows my boy doing?" He says with a smile. Emyr stares at his father not understanding anything. His father laughs and puts him down before heading back outside to finish the last of the days chores. Lyla takes Emyr and places him on his bedding. She moves to the kitchen and prepares a small meal for the family.

This is a particular occasion yet it is quite common in this small home, ever since Emyr was brought home the world has seemed brighter and more beautiful, but, what this little family doesn't know is that this is how the whole world feels, they do not know why but five weeks ago the whole world seemed to brighten, universally.

In this beautiful manner, two whole years passed in no time at all. The small family was neither thriving nor dying, but they were making it in the world, all it takes is a little hard work and they maintain a life.

Finally the family grew. Emyr was graced with twin younger siblings. A boy and a girl. Lucas and Mary. The family was as happy as ever. They might have had a little bit of difficulty providing food as there were many mouths now, but they never minded that.

This happy little family continued on for many years and finally it was Emyr's 6th birthday. This was special because it would be when he gets to take some minor tests and find out if he is eligible for schooling. Emyr knew the basics, he could talk a little better than most of those his age. He could even read a few words. They were simple words that even his parents knew but that was a big advantage over the other village kids. Most impressive of all was he could even spell and almost write his name. He was admittedly lucky to have a simple name. The day that marked Emyr as Six years and one day he left home to go to the small school in the village across the forest. It is only a days walk. if his parents see him in two days he failed, but if he passes, he will live in the other village for a week every other week.
