Skills

A few days passed since the fight with the Nevermore. Fenrir could be seen sitting on a chair in the corner of the living room watching a news broadcast on TV.

'Stupid raven... I fuckin' hate those birds. Remind me of Odin and my piss-poor excuse of a father.' Fenrir grumbled internally as he barely payed attention to the TV he was watching.

"Fuck it! I'm baking!" Fenrir yelled as he stormed off to the kitchen in order to make a delicious treat to lift his foul mood. After pouring the batter he hand-made into a buttered loaf pan he slid it into the oven for fifty minutes. Patiently brooding in the corner, Fenrir watched the timer tick down slowly. At the 5-minute mark he picked up a toothpick and thermometer and pulled the banana bread out once it finished. Setting the tray down on a washrag he poked a hole in the middle while gently pushing the thermometer inside to test the inner temperature.

"Alright.. it's good." He muttered as he put down the utensils and cut the banana bread in equal pieces. Carrying his portion to the table he saw 3 kids patiently waiting for the opportunity to taste his banana bread.

Sighing lightly, Fenrir set his plate down on the table before pointing to the pan that still head the remainder of the bread. "Go get some if you want it.." He said as he began to eat.

Fenrir stopped mid-bite as he looked at the notification in his peripheral vision. "What.. the.. fuck?" He said slowly while ignoring the weird looks he received from his muttering.

[Divine Baker: You are very good at baking :). Gives baking products made by you the ability to heal small wounds upon eating.]

Fenrir looked at the 'Status' he was gifted to from Ymir with mild interest. 'I'm not sure if I should be insulted or proud that I got a baking related skill...' He thought as he looked at the description of his 'Skill'.

'Things just keep getting more interesting... I wonder if there's anything I can use to brutally torture somebody.' He thought cheerfully while thinking of a couple Gods.

Ignoring his dark inner thoughts, Fenrir continued to munch on his banana bread as he felt slightly rejuvenated each bite. 'Damn it actually works.' He thought with a large smile, showing his dangerously sharp fangs.

"How is it?" Fenrir asked while looking at the other three.

"Mmm.. Good," Ray answered easily as he tore into his piece. The other two nodded so fast Fenrir was worried their neck would break. Fenrir's smile widened, he always loved somebody enjyoing something he created.

'I wonder what other 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 skills I can 'unlock'.. maybe something more... useful for fighting?' Fenrir pondered as he continued to munch on his bread.

...

'Ah, another break day. How wonderful..' Fenrir thought as he roamed the streets of Menagerie. He watched couples chattering about their days, elderly buying groceries from local food stands, and adults hand in hand with children that looked like them down the street.

A bitter string struck Fenrir's heart once he saw the happy families. Shaking his head he continued walking until he found a building that interested him.

A big wooden sign hung over a sculpted arch that read 'Toan's Book Emporium'. The building itself was nothing special compared to the others in Menagerie. Constructed mostly of dark toned wooden planks with a slanted roof with red tiles covering it. From a few windows Fenrir could see rows of bookshelves with some Faunus browsing through them.

Fenrir thought it was a good idea to read up about the history of the world he was dropped into. Steadying himself, Fenrir walked along the cobblestone pathway into the bookstore.

The smell of fresh oak and lavender danced freely in the small bookshop. A warm non-overbearing light permeated through the room, reminiscent of candlelight. Fenrir enjoyed the warm atmosphere as he walked up to the receptionist desk where an aged deer faunus was browsing through a book.

The receptionist noticed Fenrir's stride over towards his desk and looked up with a warm smile. "What can I do for you child?" The deer faunus spoke smoothly as he inserted a bookmark into his book and set it aside.

"Do you have any.. history books?" Fenrir questioned the wizened man.

"Of course! Just look in the 'History and Literature' section on shelf sixteen, row nine." The deer faunus responded as he pointed towards 'Shelves 12-16.'

"Thank you sir!" Fenrir graciously said as he began to shuffle off towards where the old man pointed

Continuing his stride towards his destination, Fenrir arrived at the targeted location. Scanning through the variety of books on the shelf he grabbed a few before walking off to an empty table.

'𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵, 𝘍𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, and 𝘈𝘶𝘳𝘢 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘺. Well.. I suppose I should begin reading.' Fenrir thought as he began to flip through the books.

(A/N: Small infodump warning, if you've watched RWBY before you probably already know.)

-The four Kingdoms of Remnant are Vale (center), Vacuo (west), Atlas (North), and Mistral (East). Each Kingdom has its own cultural traditions - for example, Atlas was known for its martial nature and focusing on technological advancements. Vacuo for it's rough lifestyle and harsh environment. Vale for its food and textile productions along with its Huntsman Academy which is ranked highly compared to some others in all of Remnant. Mistral is known for its combat tournaments and mining practices, as quality ore is a rarity.

Vale and Vacuo are located on continent Sanus, Mistral on Anima, Atlas on Solitas, Vytal is the island north of Vale. Other islands include Menagerie, the most Faunus populated city.-

Fenrir continued to browse through 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘵 but only investigated small bits of information about conflicts and wars that lead to the founding of Huntsman Academies.

Fenrir skimmed through 𝘍𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 and was thoroughly disappointed and angered in most of this worlds population. The largest focus of his disappointment was the Kingdom of Atlas. Particularly the SDC (Schnee Dust Company) because of their controversial labor laws for faunus workers.

Rubbing the temple of his forehead, Fenrir closed the book before he reached his boiling point. Opting to read 𝘈𝘶𝘳𝘢 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘺 for practical knowledge.

-Aura is the embodiment and manifestation of any living beings soul. Anyone from a newspaper boy to a renowned knight has Aura.

Aura's specific abilities and it's strengths differ from individual to individual and depend on multiple factors like training, experience, and innate skill. Aura is mainly used for protection against harm, but can heal, sense, and maim as well. Some people will develop an active power called a Semblance if they have Aura.

A Semblance is a power unique to each individual. A Semblance will base itself off one's innate and personal power along with one's drive. Semblances can be similar to that of your parents or siblings but it is not uncommon for it to be completely different.

Unlocking one's Aura is simple. You either have to train extremely hard for you body to awaken it alone, or have an experienced Aura user unlock it for you. -

Closing the book, Fenrir smiled in slight amazement. 'I guess this is why Ymir sent me here.. to unlock this.. aura thing and train in it.' Fenrir thought to himself. 'Adam thought that I already unlocked mine and that Gleipnir was a.. semblance. I should probably keep it that way, don't want any suspicion raining down on me yet.'

Fenrir picked up the books before sliding the back into their previous positions and leaving the bookstore.

"Have a good day!" Fenrir heard the old deer faunus running the reception table say as he exited the bookstore.

"Good guy," Fenrir muttered as he left the humble bookstore.

Navigating through the lively mid-morning traffic, Fenrir prepared to push the limits of his physical training in order to unlock his aura.

...

"Hagh *Huff*, Gods that fucking hurts. Why am I doing this again? Ohhh.. aura." Fenrir talked to himself as his muscles twitched under his shirt. Using a great deal of sheer willpower Fenrir lifted himself off the ground, ignoring his muscles that begged for the sweet release of laying down.

"Keep going.. keeping going.. keep going.. keep going.." Fenrir muttered his mantra as he continued to go through his basic body strengthening routine. Running, jumping, stretching, pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, the works.

As he finished pushing himself off the ground for what seemed like the 400th time, he felt something click. Like a clogged gear that he didn't know was functioning improperly fixed itself in the core of his being. As he fell to the ground his body was outlined in red, the same color as his eyes.

[Acquired Skills]

[Aura Manipulation (Basic): The manifestation and realization of one's soul. Used as shield, weapon, or medicine. The ability to activate one's Aura is dependent on innate skill or outside help, but either path leads the same way.]

[Semblance: %#@ ^(@# %#@#@: UnknownUnknownUnknownUnknownUnknown.value.exe.]

"Huh.. weird," were the only thoughts that came to mind before Fenrir passed out from exhaustion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(A/N: READ! Gleipnir can negate abilities once in contact with a person, leaving only their physical strength available, and due to it being soul-bound to Fenrir it grows in power with Fenrir himself. So he can't just run up to the final boss wrap him up in a painful rope (Gleipnir) and win, Odin is many.. MANY more times powerful than Fenrir, so Gleipnir would be useless as Fenrir himself being useless in the fight. So if the opponent is stronger -but not by much- than Fenrir, Gleipnir can still restrain their muscle movements and negate ALL of their abilities. If they are weaker or the same strength then it completely restrains the opponent along with their abilities. Just making Fenrir more balanced for plot reasons and character development :).)
