2 He Wants Me To Do What?

I looked at the card Noah Adler had given me and sighed. It had his photo, phone number, address and signature. I guessed he didn't give his card to just anybody. But really, I didn't want any more trouble. I wondered what sort of job he had in mind for me. More than that, I wondered how Maya and Jeremy would react if they heard Noah Adler had something up his sleeve for me.

As I was thinking all these, the elevator door opened and two women walked in. They were clearly from the staff in the company judging by the ID cards around their neck. For some reason, they couldn't stop giggling.

"Oh man, he is just soooo handsome…."

"And the way he carries himself is just….."

"And his voice is soooo angelic."

"I wish I could take a selfie though"

Personally, I hate these types of girls. It also made me ashamed of being a female. Right, I did feel elated in meeting a celebrity but why should someone forget about themselves just because they have seen a star? My friends were fanatics but they were NOTHING compared to some of my classmates. I admit I admire celebrities, but for a whole different reason-the hardwork and effort they had put in to reach their current position.

The elevator came to a stop. This time it was my turn to walk out. Fiddling with my bag, I walked to the place Ms Wang at the counter had told me. I reached the room and saw a man at the door. It seemed like he was waiting for me.

"Are you the one from KnowYourCelebrity?"

"Yes"

"I'm sorry but Austin Taylor is not here at the moment. Can you return after 3 hours?"

I didn't speak for a while. I was fuming. They had called me all the way up here just to send me back. The scant respect they showed towards people like us compared to celebrities was ridiculous. I counted up to ten silently in order to cool myself down, while holding the man's gaze and said:

"Fine."

I turned and stomped my way back. I wasn't aware of my surroundings until I reached the ground floor. I had to calm myself down. And only one thing could do that-the company of Maya and Jeremy. I walked out of the building and looked around. I spotted my friends waving towards me. My friends… they were the only people I loved… they were always there for me, from the time I moved to New York when I was three… without them, without their constant support and encouragement, I would never have survived in the hell I'm forced to call 'home'.

Jeremy was tall, fair and athletic-looking. Among the three of us, he was the only one popular at school. He was handsome and kind, and cared for me and Maya just as much we cared for him. Maya, with her big, brown eyes and dark hair was always positive and looked at the brighter side of things. But the thing is, she is a little dense. I have plenty of reasons to believe that. But I'm not gonna tell her because… of fear of losing both of my friends.

Maya's bear hug woke me from my thoughts.

"How was it? Did you meet him?"

"Ah, about that…" I vented all my buried feelings. They waited for me to calm down before consoling me.

"How about we take a stroll around the city?"Jeremy suggested.

We agreed to it. As we walked, I told them about my meeting with Noah Adler. Their reaction was just as I expected.

"Noah Adler? You mean, 'the' Noah Adler?"

"Yes, Maya, it was definitely 'the' Noah Adler. I wonder what he wants me to do."

"What's the only thing you are good at doing, Laura?",asked Jeremy.

"Writing, of course. And hey, why does it sound like you are teasing me? Writing isn't the only thing I'm good at, you know."

"I never teased you". Jeremy shrugged.

"Anyway, why do you ask?"

"I think he guessed it."

"Guessed I'm good at writing? But I never really mentioned it."

"You didn't, directly, but when you told him your opinion, he might have guessed about your talent.", Maya said.

"So you mean to say…"

Jeremy turned to face me, his blue eyes shining with excitement.

"Yes, Laura, if I'm not wrong, he wants you to become his songwriter."
