15 Inevitable

"Well done! You are doing great, though I don't understand why you insist on doing missions alone, Valdis" Najenda said as she heard Valdis's report about his yet another successful mission. In the past few days, Valdis began interacting with the others and performing more and more missions to gather as many points as possible, to milk this group dry, after all, the number of points he was getting from completing missions and getting close to them was slowly decreasing as if they were running dry.

At first, it was almost visible that Najenda was suspicious of his request to do the missions alone, however, after he completed more than 20 of them without anything bad happening, she decided to let it go, for the time being, still, she didn't like him doing things alone and wanted him to pick up more experience with fighting in a group.

"It's not like I can't work together with anyone, it just helps me get stronger faster since there is no one else I can rely on, and need to do everything myself. By the way, where is everyone?" Valdis explained and then asked since he hasn't seen anyone on his way to the meeting room.

"Sheele and Mine went out for a mission, Leone and Tatsumi also received their own mission as for the others...Akame is probably hunting and gathering fruits for the dinner." Najenda replied.

'So it's finally time...Despite doing whatever I could, even getting closer to everyone, I was able to accumulate only 1300 Villain Points. Not to mention I am getting too close to them, maybe it's time for me to distance myself. Once I evolve my Sharingan, I will probably leave this group, I should be capable of fending for myself by that time.' As previously shown before, Valdis was just a human and even if he was scum, he could still feel attached to some people. In his previous life, he kept his distance from everyone since he didn't need to be friendly in the first place.

"I see, it's already evening, huh? I guess I will take on one more mission and call it a day, that is, if there is any mission available"

"You still want more? Well, it's not like there aren't any considering there are thousands of corrupt people in the Capital. Take something easier, you have been running around and doing missions all day." Najenda suggested with a smile to which Valdis nodded with a grateful smile before turning around to leave.

The moment he turned his back to Najenda however, his face fell. His face stayed that way only for a few seconds before a cold glint appeared in his eyes.

'This is just a test, to see if I have what it takes inside me' Valdis resolved himself.

He went to the Capital to complete his mission and since it was still sunset, he decided to take his time.

"M-monster! What do you want?! Money?! I will give you anything, just spare my life" A man covered in imperial guard's armor shouted in a high-pitched voice while sitting on his arse, looking at Valdis's entire figure covered in blood. The man was aware of how Night Raid operates, however, a figure in front of him behaved nothing like an assassin who was supposed to just quickly take care of the job.

Valdis was standing in the middle of the pool of blood with several dismembered bodies lying all around, he was standing still, looking at the ceiling with his face covered in blood. His face currently looked to be in peace as if he was just laying in the bed made of fragrant flowers.

"What's your favorite color?" Valdis suddenly asked without moving his eyes from the ceiling.

"W-what?" The man who was shivering somehow became even more scared after hearing such a nonchalant question coming from Valdis's mouth.

"Mine has always been light or dark blue, though, I am starting to like red too" Valdis finally took his eyes off the ceiling and looked at his palms completely covered in blood. He said it so nonchalantly, almost sounding like he genuinely just wanted to talk to someone.

"M-mine is g-green" The guard replied through his metal full mask.

"I see, green is nice too. I kinda like you, I think we can come to an agreement if you take off your helmet with mask."

The man naturally complied, however, the moment he took his mask off, Valdis placed him under his genjutsu and ordered the man to give him his armor before Valdis removed his face from the man's memories. He even took the man's spear to replace his weapon.

As Valdis was leaving the room, he took a last glance at the unconscious man laying on the ground before entering the darkness, leaving for good.

[You have completed the mission]

[Reward: 30 Villain Points]

[You have let someone witness a gruesome scene, scaring them to death and leaving them with a long-term trauma]

[Reward: 100 Villain Points]

This was the first time Valdis received any kind of bonus reward after completing the mission, however at this time, he couldn't care any less. This entire scene wasn't created just to scare someone, it was his way of resolving himself. By bathing in the blood of his enemies, his emotions calmed down to the point of his face appearing to be emotionless. As for the reason why he didn't kill that man? He just felt like it would ruin the calmness he gained after that fight.

.

.

The night quickly arrived and Valdis covered in the Imperial Armor was watching 3 humans fight at the park.

It was Seryu, Mine, and Sheele fighting. Valdis watched their fight from a safe distance and waited for the perfect moment with the spear in his right hand. The moment Mine was caught by Seryu's Teigu she called Koro, Valdis tightly gripped the handle of the spear and got into position ready to throw it.

Just like he saw in the original, the next moment, Sheele rescued Mine from being crushed in Koro's hand and the moment she landed on the ground and turned to Mine, Valdis decided to throw the spear with all his might. His face under the full metal mask was completely cold, however...

"?! Sheele!!" The moment Mine saw a spear pierce through Sheele's back, she shouted with all her might and underneath Valdis's mask, one tear rolled out of there.

Even Seryu was surprised by this so she looked in the direction from which the spear came just to see one imperial guard running towards her.

"You are fast! Let's take care of the other villain~" Seryu maniacally smiled at him before turning to Mine who was shaking in rage when Sheele fell on the group, barely holding on to her Teigu.

Valdis nodded his head and draw a basic long sword, however, he didn't dare to rush in.

"H-How dare you...? I WILL KILL YOU!" *bang* Mine shot a laser of energy at Valdis who easily dodged to the side with his Sharingan, however, it wasn't a normal shot, the laser of energy didn't disperse at all, in fact, it even increased its strength.

"UAAAH!" Mine swung her gun to the side at Valdis and the energy followed like a prolonged sword capable of disintegrating anything in its way.

'?!' Valdis never expected her to actually attack him since she never made a move in the original due to the reinforcements and her broken arm. Valdis's knee bent a little as if getting ready to jump over the laser but Mine also noticed this detail so she was ready to move the gun up a little.

Contrary to Mine's expectations, Valdis actually jumped forward, jumping under the laser instead of over the laser. Her attack missed and only several trees behind Valdis fell down.

"She can still use that weapon with a broken arm?!" Even Seryu seemed surprised.

"Seryu!" A group of imperial guards was finally in sight running to help them which alarmed Mine and woke her up from her mindless rage.

At the same moment, a blinding light started radiating from Sheele's Teigu making everyone shield their eyes.

"Kill her, Koro!" Seryu shouted at Koro, however, Valdis already moved and pierced her heart through her back with his sword, though, the moment blinding light dispersed, Mine was nowhere to be seen.

[You have killed a major character]

[Reward: 1000 Villain Points]

[You have unlocked one path for the evolution of your Sharingan]

[Reward: 300 Villain Points]

[Mine's immense hatred is directed at both Seryu and you because you have killed her close friend in front of her eyes. The reward will be lowered due to your hidden identity.]

[Reward: 100 Villain Points]

Valdis continued reading the announcements as he stared at Sheele's body while still holding the sword buried in her heart. At this moment, Valdis didn't feel any regret and actually felt relieved that he no longer can go back to how he felt content around the Night Raid, it was finally his time to distance himself. Although he had a little bit different plans and in the beginning, he was planning to save Sheele, plans are meant to be changed.

'Her death was also important for Tatsumi's development. He is going to train even harder now. I can't believe I almost let my emotions control my judgment. I am a Villain, we are supposed to be enemies, I guess I got too absorbed in playing the family with them.'

"Damn it, she ran away, secure the perimeter!" One of the guards shouted before approaching Seryu to check on her, however, all he got was happy laughter.

Valdis wanted to leave discreetly but he was suddenly stopped by Seryu's voice.

"Hey, you...you are good. You don't seem like an ordinary imperial guard, you must be at least a squad leader. Thank you for your assistance in delivering the justice!"

"There is no need to thank me for doing my responsibility, I just regret not arriving much earlier to save your arms"

Hearing his words, Seryu smiled gently with a flushed face which looked quite ridiculous when she was missing both her arms.

[A major villain views you as their ally and kindred spirit]

[Reward: 300 Villain Points]

'Crazy...' Despite thinking that, Valdis actually smiled under his mask.

"I need to return to my post!" Valdis said and quickly run off before Seryu could ask him any question that would render him helpless.

.

.

Valdis exited the Capital and was now sitting on the branch of a tall tree, watching the full moon. He had already taken the armor off and buried it on the edge of the forest near the Capital.

'I have enough points to finally get a large power-up. I am still not sure whether I should return to the base since by now, Mine probably already returned, and returning after her would make me look pretty suspicious. Plus I am not sure whether Mine's hatred for me won't be able to recognize my figure, she has never seen me wearing armor but one never knows.'

Valdis didn't hesitate at all in front of a possibly large power-up.

[Is the candidate sure about the chosen path? This decision is irreversible.]

'So was my decision to kill Sheele. Do it'

Almost all his points were consumed and his dark eyes changed to Sharingan before they began spinning, changing the pattern in them. The Sharingan's 3 commas remained while a few black lines appeared around them.

'...So this is what it feels like to have Mangekyo Sharingan. It certainly feels different from regular Sharingan, I can see much better in the dark than previously, however, my stamina is also draining much faster. Not to mention the power I feel radiating from my eyes...' While Valdis was getting used to his new eyes, pieces of information flowed inside his brain which made him able to subconsciously guess one ability of his new eyes.
