5 Villainous Streak

The days passed and we found out that the girl picked up by the headmaster was actually good at learning. I say 'good at learning' because her conduct had not changed one bit. She didn't like being treated like a mascot, but she knew that a chance to learn at a school like this for a whole year was a rare opportunity for a commoner like her.

Thus, the effort she put into her studies was a lot. Although in the book was described how daunted and stressed she actually was, she was trying to use this as a way to better her home situation. After all, once this year is over, both her and her mother need to start working again.

Ah, there's the prince. I ran toward him as speedily as was allowed by noble conduct. "Your Highness. What a pleasant surprise."

As if, even in the book was described how I followed this man around.

Laius and his friends all smiled wryly. "Ah, nice to see you, Eluvia. How are you?"

"I'm fine, glad to see, you and your friends seem to be doing good as well. May I ask what you were talking about? Or is that maybe a bit too forceful? I don't want to be disliked by Your Highness, nor by Your Highness' friends."

Honestly, what they were talking about was a way to dissolve Laius' engagement with me. They're all close too Laius. His three friends from left to right; Anthony, Oliver and Vincent.

They were all familiar with the way I treated those with a lower status than me, so they as much as possible evaded me.

"Ah, no we were just talking about uh, yes how hard our homework is this year." Laius dear, please try a bit harder, though I guess you can't really escape the hands of the script, huh?

I giggled, how glad I am that I'm not made into a brainless character in the story. "Your Highness, there's no need to hide it. If you don't want to tell me, that's fine too. You are all men in puberty, of course there are things you wouldn't want to tell a lady like me. It's also fine if we just talk about something else, you know?"

Of course, although not completely brainless, that doesn't mean I'm not a pain. At this moment, Laius is thinking hard, how to escape this situation, as are his friends.

Anthony, hoping to help his best friend, speaks up for Laius. "Miss Eluvia, I'm sure Laius doesn't know how to bring it to you, but he is actually really busy now. Would you mind him leaving first, you can talk to us three, right?"

The two other friends nodded and looked at Laius. "Oh, is that true? Well then, it seems I've been rude. Please accept my apologies, Your Highness."

Relieved, Laius lightly smiles and says, "It's fine, Eluvia. I'll see you another time then."

"Yes, may I ask-?" This brat. He actually dared run away. Though I know this'll happen, I can't help but feel annoyed at such a self-important bastard. I had nothing before this, and he thinks his life is hard with a slightly annoying wife to be? I hope he grows up after I disappear.

I sighed. "Well then, I'll excuse myself. It's not proper for me to stay alone with a man who isn't my fiancé, nevermind three of them. Till the next time we meet."

As if. Although what I said was the truth, my goal is to run after the prince. However, running after someone in the open is seen as very impolite. Thus, however much stalker-like my actions may seem, I'll follow him. This is also the first time I'll see Lila and Laius together, talking happily in the greenhouse.

They've already met before this, twice even. Seriously, Eluvia should've had someone follow the prince the whole time. But, since this is her action, it's mine as well.

I walk around the vicinity where I saw the prince run off. I spy around but can't find him. Finally, despite Eluvia's dislike for greenery, I enter the greenhouse.

I softly say, "Hello?"

Of course, the prince hadn't heard me, nor did Lila. I turn around the corner to find a small little lounge. I hear a soft giggling and loud laughing. Lila and Laius, huh? I smile, before quickly hiding my expression and changing it to hers. A shock-filled face. At this moment, tears started filling my eyes. I would've been happy as long as the prince didn't like someone else, even if he didn't like me.

But, now he was happily laughing with a normal girl, a commoner at that. This is something unacceptable for Eluvia. I'm really glad she's part of me. Otherwise, how should I have cried?

The Eluvia at this moment knew this wasn't the right timing to fight. As mentioned earlier, I'm not completely brainless. I know that confronting them would make me look bad in front of the prince.

I left the greenhouse after carefully wiping my tears, leaving only the slightest bit of red. This way, although most people won't notice it, my friends will. And that's where my villainous streak will start.
