16 The world.

When I was 7 months old, I stopped reinforcing my body by magic. I don't want to turn old in 15 years from my birth! Mother and Father told me that I was free to play with Afald however I want, but when villagers or tax collectors are coming, I will have to pretend to be a normal baby. It appears that children with magical power, may be taken away from their parents, if they are too outstanding. Scary~

Tax collectors were coming at the end of Moonna season (Autumn) and would take a lot of harvest n from the fields. I once asked if the amount is fine and Father answered with bitter lough that it's a little excessive, but not a total rip off. Well they never took meat or cattle. Rather they couldn't.

In this world, people can't eat meat, because there are no animals that can be eaten. That also includes fish and eggs of beasts. Yes, beasts. Here Animals do not exist, only creatures that somehow resemble animals from Earth. This creatures are called Beasts and those that wield magical power or are a threat, are called Magical Monsters or Monsters respectively. Beasts can be tamed by anyone and are used in day-to-day life; whereas, Monsters can be tamed only trough magical contract. However, there is one thing that is common in all of those species of creatures, they turn in rays of light and disappear when their lifespan finishes.

And that's the reason,why everyone here are 'vegetarians'. I was a vegetarian in my previous life, so I've got no complains.

Today, Father took me to the fields for the first time. I was on the cloud nine. Finally, I'm allowed to go past the gates! YES! From now on, I'm a big girl! I've turned 2-years-old two days ago! I was born on the third month of Garmi season ( spring), so everything was brimming with life. I also saw scary collectors twice. Their eyes were cold and distant... they didn't seem all that humane. But it doesn't matter! I'm out~

On our way to the fields, we passed by many small, neat houses with stables or farms attached to them. In the stables I spotted pitch-black horse alike Beast and on the fields many Beasts that resembled cows and goats grazed. The only difference was in their unusual colouring and extra tale. To me they looked like Copy-Pasted, a little modified animals from Earth..... well, no one asked about my opinion.

We met up with Father's friends and finally arrived to our destination. Playful wind carried the scent of wild flowers and fresh, green grass. Majestic, peacock-like, big birds were chirping and circling around us, as if trying to show of their magnificent crimson wings and emerald bodies. Charcoal dragonflies were skillfully decorated with golden, transparent wings and passed by my face at a speed of lightning.

Someone noticed the birds in the sky and let out a shrill.

" LOOK! Ago-birds are here! Hey Kelm, you were an adventurer before, are those dangerous?"

Father looked up and let out a sigh of relief.

" No. Those are harmless. We are very fortunate that Ago-bird King is not here... Anyways! Guys go to work! No need to pay them any heed!"

'So my awesome, but clumsy Father was an adventurer.... There is still so many things that I don't know about...'

Father placed me on the ground.

" Mirta, bea good girl and don't run too far in the field, you might get lost."

" No I won't! I'm big now, so everything is fine!"

"Mirta...", he said with threatening voice, " I said don't go, that means don't go! Got it?"

While being pinned by my Father's gaze, I noticed a huge butterfly, turned around and escaped following it.

"MIRTA!"

" I understood, Dad! I'll be good!" And I ran off to the distance.

" I guess, there is no helping it. She resembles me a lot, when I was small..."Kelm sighed and started doing his work.
