8 Chapter 7: A Vow Once Made
Marsen and Kid made there back to the north gate from the fields, at the gate entrance Marsen suddenly stops "Kid I'm so sorry, because of my foolishness you were wounded." Looking down at the ground in a depressed state Marsen is too ashamed to look at Kid.
Kid flicks Marsen on the forehead "You're right, you are a fool, but you didn't die, learn from this and proceed cautiously next time." With those words Marsen has officially gained insight on what could happen without taking in thought of his current strength, he always vowed to become as strong as his late older brother.
"Kid, you never answered my question. What are you offering to the Great One?" Marsen still pestering Kid with that question.
After a long pause.
"Nothing." Kid simply replied.
"You're the fool then, why do you submit yourself to that pit, it can be just a simple silver coin to offer instead you rather be tortured and fighting to the death for a week!" Cried out Marsen
With no words left to say Kid stares at Marsen and could see him shaking at the thought of what is to come in the next 2 moon cycles. Kid himself was still not prepared for going through it again but refuses to give any praise to The Great One.
They made their way to the Gathering Hall to turn in the cloverleaves for the reward, the Hall's inside was relatively huge for the amount of people that constantly come here for requests and rewards. They make their way through the crowd to the rewards desk, there they collect the 30 silver coins and split it 50/50.
"Kid you should take more of the reward for what you went through." Marsen tries to hand him another 5 silver coins
"We both did the job, we both get paid equally." Kid closes Marsens hand for him to keep his portion. "I'll see you later, head home for the day, I need to see The Old Man."
Kid exits the Gathering Hall and makes his way to the cabin The Old Man's at. The Old Man as always sensing when someone is wanting to see him calls Kid in. "Hmm.... Elvenian arrow wound on the right hand I see." The Old Mans insight was superb as always.
"How can someone with one blind eye and the other eye barely able to see, able to perceive so much?" Kid questioning things he could never understand.
Letting out a light chuckle followed by a dry harsh cough "My son, when you've seen the world and all its glory and despair something as simple as this isn't hard to notice." The Old Man states
"Then tell me Old Man, when can I see the world, you forbid it everytime I ask and then submit me to harsh training or a near death experience with your magic!" Kid getting annoyed with The Old Mans jesting
"Settle down settle down, your time shall come, for now I will send a forgiveness package to the Lord of Shylian, in hopes he doesn't retaliate aganist you for your actions against his youngest son, however if he were too, I know you could manage by yourself without having to protect another without worrying." The Old Mans words were comforting towards Kid making his anger subside.
"It's almost my aging time which will fall on the ceremony cycle. Before you ask I will be going in the pit again, I refuse to offering anything again." Stating that Kid stands up and makes his way out of the cabin and stops at the door and asks "You've raised me for 17 years, yet you've still haven't named me nor even Dogbite, why?"
The Old Man looks at Kid with whatever vision he has left. "How could someone whom has forgotten their own name, be allowed to name someone else." The words sting Kids heart as he walks out the door,
Kid makes his way towards the cliff with the dead tree and sees Dogbite next to it. "I'll never understand your fixation with the sun setting." Kid says poking at Dogbite
"Your jokes will never end will they, Kid." Dogbite replies in her usual soft voice.
"I'm sure you've heard already about what happened at the Elvenian forest?" Questions Kid.
Letting out with what seemed a tired/disappointed sigh "Yes, Grimco has not let it go and has been joking about it for what seems like days, even though it has just been a few moments pass." Dogbite said in a tired like voice.
"When you see Marsen don't bring it up, he will only feel guilty about what has happened, he needs to learn soon these things happen and will help strengthen him." Even though kid said that he already knew that she wouldn't
Dogbite still staring out to sea with the sun just now hitting twilight hour "He will surely become stronger than his older brother." Both Kid and Dogbite without a word stare at the final light into the night at sea.
