Chapter 2

"Mm... Ah..."

In a dark prison cell with only candlelight as the light source, a child who looked around the age of 9 or 10. His height was above the average of those around him, being taller than a few more centimeters. He had chin-length blonde unkempt hair and crystal-like blue eyes.

Currently, he was laying on a mattress while the iron bars keeping him in are closed tightly. It is unknown how he got here, but one thing is for certain; he was found.

His consciousness was starting to come back as he slowly open his eyelids. It took him a few seconds to adjust to his environment and rubbed his eyes.

"Mom...?" He said to no one.

Then, tears started to gather around his eyes as tiny tear drips slid down from his small face.

He then curled up to a ball while sobbing "M-Mom... Dad... Nii-san..."

It was clear from the behavior he's showing that something must have happened to his parents that he unfortunately saw.

It was at this time, however, a kind of bombastic, playful, like dark, witty, clever, honest, but with a power familiar friendly sound is heard only by the child

{Cheer up, kid... At least you have me...}

Hearing this, the child was immediately frightened as he looked around reluctantly "W-Who said that?!"

{Who else but your friendly neighborhood— oh wait no, *Ahem* The name's Helix!}

The boy started to get scared so he curled up to a ball once more and closed his eyes while putting both his hand at this ears

As if it found the child's actions amusing, the voice continued {Relax kid~ I'm not gonna hurt ya. In fact, it's the complete opposite.}

Hearing this, the child was a bit reluctant but eventually gave in and asked curiously while still keeping up his vigilance

"Who are you...? And... Where are you...?"

Then, something happened that caused the child to get frightened even more. Purple goo started to seep out from his nape and started to move in front of his face until finally, a head of a weird creature with many sharp teeth and large sharp eyes appeared in front of the boy. Because of the facial feature of the head, it looks like it always has a smile on its face

"I... Am Helix!"

"E-Eek!"

Seeing this, the child got so scared he almost fall unconscious once more. But was stopped by the creature that called itself Helix

"Wait wait wait. Hear me out first, okay?" Complied Helix

Although the child is only 10, even he knows when to submit or fight. So, he decided to submit and lightly nodded his head without speaking while still keeping that scared and vigilant expression

Seeing this, Helix's smile widened. So, he started talking

"Okay. First of all, I'm not gonna hurt you. In fact, I can even heal you! You remember your injuries from your house, right? I healed those!"

Hearing this, the child looked at his body and a shocked expression appeared on his face.

'I-It's true! I-I remember the pain when all those rocks fell onto me...' Thought the child

Seeing this, the doubt in the child's heart slowly but surely decreased.

"Now that I've introduced myself, it's your turn now!" Said Helix excitedly

Having no choice but to say it, the child was. a bit reluctant and said his name

"C-Carrion... Carrion Kamber!"

"Carrion, huh? What a nice name... Anyways! Now that we've introduced ourselves, do you have any questions for me? Ask anything, and I'm sure I can answer them!... Except for calculus..." Helix said a bit proudly but made the last part a whisper

Hearing this chance, Carrion's eye lit up, and immediately asked Helix

"M-My family! Did you save my family?!"

Carrion still remembers it. His father and brother distracted the titans away from their house and his mother took him to escape. But in the next moment, everything seems to have disappeared as he was married in the rubble.

Hearing this, the smile on Helix's face slowly went down as he slowly said to Carrion

"Well... Sorry, kid. I wasn't able to."

Having heard of this, the light in Carrion's eyes disappeared as he curled up and started to cry

Seeing this, Helix got a bit sympathetic so he cheered him up "Stop being a cry baby about it. Remember those creatures that took their life? If you get stronger then you can avenge your family!"

"If you get strong enough to slice those things with just one slash, then you can annihilate all of them and take revenge for the family you lost!"

Hearing Helix's inspirational speech, Carrion slowly raised his head with a hit of snot on his nose

"*Sniff*... How?"

As if he reached his goal, the giant smile on Helix's face widened even more.

"It's easy... You know, there's a—"

Helix suddenly stopped talking as he looked behind suspiciously

"What's wrong?" Asked Carrion

"... Someone's here. Gotta hide real quick." Felix replied as he went back into Carrion's small body

Soon, footsteps at Shepard in the hallway leading to the prison cell where Carrion is located

{Listen here, kid. Make sure to not tell anyone about me, alright?} Warned Helix

"Y-Yes..." Carrion whispered

Soon, the prison bars were opened and a tall blonde man with thick eyebrows came in and looked at Carrion.

*Gulp*

Carrion subconsciously gulped as he looked at the tall man. He was emanating an opposing domineer as if he has him in his hands.

Helix, however, recognizes this man

'Isn't this guy...'

Sensing Carrion's vigilance, the person that walked in crouched down and made a call expression

"It seems you're awake. Are you feeling fine?" Asked the man

"Y-Yes"

"That's good. Can you tell me what happened before you fall asleep?" It was clear that the tall man was interrogating Carrion. But the latter was too young to know it

"I-I was—"

{Don't tell him!} Shouted Helix internally

"..."

'What do I do then, Helix-san?!' Replied Carrion

{I don't know... Think of something quick!}

Hearing this, Carrion sighed internally and thought of ways to prevent Helix from being exposed

After a few seconds...

Making up his mind, Carrion found an excuse that he knows for sure will work.

"I... I don't know. I... I just saw Mom... Dad... Brother... And those titans... They... *Hick* *Sniff*" Carrion's eyes started to fill up tears as he sobs trying to tell his story

Seeing this, the tall man closed his eyes as he pats the crying Carrion's head

"Forgive me. I shouldn't have asked."

'This kid's good. Award winners of the Oscars would be ashamed...' Thought Helix in amusement

Then, the tall man got a sudden idea and asked Carrion

"Why don't we get you out of here first? You still haven't eaten, right?"

He said while reaching out his hand

Carrion stopped crying and wiped his tears with his shirt and grabbed the man's firm and hard hands. He stood up from the mattress and walked out of the prison cell along with the tall man

"Umm... Mister? Who are you...?" Asked Carrion curiously with an innocent face

Thinking for a while, the tall man told his identity

"You've heard of the Survey Corps, right?"

"Yes! They're the ones who go beyond the walls and kill those titans!" Yelled Carrion innocently

Hearing this, the tall man chuckled and continued

"My name is Erwin. The current 13th commander of the Survey Corps."

{CALLED IT!} Yelled Helix internally

Hearing this sudden internal shout, Carrion hot startled and confronted Helix

'Helix-san... Please don't shout like that again...'

{Oh... Sorry... Anyways! Follow this guy! Make sure to get on his good side! Trust me, it'll benefit you greatly hehe!}

'Why...?'

{This guy is an important figure! Remember what I said earlier about getting stronger? This man in front of you can be a medium to that! Get in the training corps through him! And once you managed to enter, I'll tell you the rest of the plan!} Said Helix a bit excited

'If Helix-san says so... Then I'll do it!'

Hearing Carrion's response, Helix scoffed

{Jeez kid, you trust others too much... Good thing you have me as your backup thinker!}
