1 Waking up

He groaned as he rolled over. All he could remember was falling off the cliff to save a girl. She had jumped off the cliff, but he couldn't recall the reason she did so. He didn't know the girl, just knew she didn't deserve to go that way.

He opened his eyes and looked at the sky. HE slowly sat up before turning to look around him. There was no cliff to be seen... Hadn't he just fell off one? Maybe he had dreamt it...

He stood slowly, he hurt everywhere like he fell off a cliff, but if he had... where was the cliff now? His ear twitched... then he froze. He lifted his hand to feel his head. Why was his ear there... and why did it feel like a wolf or a dog ear?

He looked at his hand. It took everything he had not to scream. He had fur, claws, and paw pads. He then turned to look behind him. He had a tail... What was going on here? He was just a man... A human... How did he have the tail and ears of a wolf? Now he thought about it... he was on his toes and his legs resembled the back legs of a wolf as well... Had he somehow turned into a furry of some sort?

That was impossible! Furries do not exist! He must be dreaming... Perhaps he got a concussion when he fell from the cliff?

He decided to take a look around. Maybe he could find someone who could give him answers... He started walking through the grass in a random direction. Surely there was a town nearby.

He walked for what felt like forever, but couldn't have been more than thirty minutes or so. He saw some buildings ahead and began running for them. It was hard to run and walk with this new body. He would just have to get use to it till he wakes up from this dream.

His tail swayed slightly as he slowed. He walked into the town and looked around him. Everyone was animalistic! There were furries everywhere he looked... How was this possible? Did he wake up in some other dimension or world or something?

He walked into a nearby shop and walked up to the counter. "Hello?" He looked around, not seeing anyone. "Is anyone here? I need some help!"

Someone walked out from a back room and looked at him. "Why do you not ring the bell like everyone else?" she asked him. She walked to stand in front of him, staying behind the counter. "How may I be of help today?"

John watched her. "I am John... I fell off a cliff and woke up like this... I have no idea where I am or what is going on... Can you help me?"

She blinked her eyes as her tail twitched. John hadn't realized it but she was a calico cat, with green eyes. She leaned on the counter. "Name is Samantha, but my friends call me Sammy. Do you think a coffee shop is where you should be if you just fell off a cliff? Shouldn't you be at the vet?"

John tilted his head slightly as he processed what she was saying. "Oh... right. Sorry to bother you." He turned to leave but then stopped again before turning to look at her. "Where is the vet, if I may ask?"

Samantha sighed as she stepped out from behind the counter. She walked up to him and pointed down the street at a red building. "Go to the red building, that is the vet office. The vet's name is Savannah. Tell her I sent you and she should give you a discount."

John smiled at her. "Thank you Sammy for everything!"

Samantha growled slightly. "That is Samantha to you. Only my friends call me Sammy, and you are no friend of mine... yet."

John flinched at her sudden anger. "Sorry, didn't mean to upset you. Samantha it is. I will definitely keep that in mind."

He turned to walk down the street to the vet after that. What got into her though? She was so kind and sweet, then all of a sudden angry. Was it really because he called her Sammy and isn't her friend? Or was there some other meaning to it?

He walked inside and looked around. There was a dog behind the desk, which he assumed was Savannah. He walked to the desk and cleared his throat. "Hello... Savannah?"

The dog looked up at him. "I am not Savannah," he replied shortly. "However Savannah is here... Is there a reason you are inquiring about her?"

John blinked in confusion before realizing his mistake. Savannah was the vet, this must be the receptionist. He felt silly at that moment. "Sorry... I should have known the vet wouldn't be running the front desk. I was sent from Samantha... I fell off a cliff and woke up here... I am not sure of where I am or what is going on..."
