8 Ch. 7 Thus the Truth Revealed

As I read through the books, I came to discover quite a bit about the world I currently reside in. On top of it being a land of magic, it was also a land of intelligent creatures besides Humans. I had mentioned before Elves, who were the most nature loving of nature loving creatures. But with them there was also Goblins, Dwarves, Dragons and many others. Unfortunately though, despite almost all these creatures naturally being born with a Magic Core, the species that controlled the majority of the world were Humans. Humans, who weren't born naturally with a Magic Core. Humans that were able to breed so much it boggles the mind, were the controllers of the known world.

On top of all that, we didn't have any overall problems that other species had. Dwarves it seemed couldn't even exit from the underground without blistering so bad they would look like a person with 4th degree burns. Elves as said were nature lovers to a fault, and Goblins were so physically weak that they were basically a slave species to all the others. Even though magic could equalize things to some degree, that equalizer was useless when some humans could be born with a Magic Core and do magic too.

As for what a Magic Core is, it's the whole reason a person can do magic in this world. The only things that don't need Magic Cores are plants, if you're part of the Animal branch of the Tree of Life, then you need a Core to do magic. From all I've read, it seems to be some kind of organ that a person is born with, it allows them to manipulate Mana that exists naturally in the air. Spells are basically the manipulation of this Mana into different effects. Unfortunately the information on this is too sparse to be able to do any more thorough research.

But hey, it's not like not having a Magic Core makes a person eternally weak. Apparently a person can practice something called, Body Cultivation, which uses some strange methods to draw Mana into the body and convert it into some kind of energy called Qi that can flow and improve a person's body. But, I haven't yet found any more on that information either but that's because I haven't finished reading this library. There is more information on Body Cultivation then there is Magic Core here, the only thing that outnumbers it is books on healing arts, herbs, and medicine.

Apparently, Alexis' father was trying to find a cure for either me or Alexis' mother. From what I can tell, the man truly loved one or both of us. Considering these books are all hand written, it would have cost a vast sum to get all of these books on healing, especially considering the intrinsic value of anything that could restore a person's body. But one thing I have noticed, is there isn't a single book so far on any poisons... I really don't think that man knows I was poisoned and not sick, poor fool.

Anyways, I've also found out more about the land I'm in as well. I'm apparently in a Human-centric kingdom on the continent of Linea, the kingdom of Alamar, named of course after the royal family. From the research I've gone through, the Dueller family is a Dukedom that reigns over a southern territory who's main point is it's border with the ocean and crops that focus on cotton growing. The whole kingdom as well practices slavery of other species and it's one of the reasons that the cotton industry of this Duke's lands is actually rather well going as it has a steady supply of bodies to do such demanding labor.

Unfortunately, I gotta admit that finding that out made my opinion of that father to decrease by a large degree. He might be a loving father, but anyone who is willing to use slaves for labor is deplorable. Whether it's another species or not, it wasn't something I could expect. Where I'm originally from, slavery was viewed as a despicable and contemptuous thing to do. Hell, I learned through my own studies that it was that same use of slaves that held back so many technologies for so long. Distractions, need to focus, I'll have to remember to admonish the man for taking slaves later when I get the chance.

Actually, that's about all I've learned, well... I learned more about other species too, and some useful information about this world's state of medical knowledge. But beyond that I haven't learned too much else. Still, I've only gone through about a quarter of this study's books after... Shit, I have no idea, need to remember to ask Helmsford when he next comes in. Anyways, I still have a lot more to read. Ah! If you're wondering, yes I've read through all of them. It's actually not that hard considering, as I said before, a lot of these are hand written in large print. On top of that, most had drawings or demonstrations rather than actual writing. It was kind of boring, there wasn't even some fiction stories. This boy's father was really focused on trying to find a cure, probably after other doctors or healers couldn't find it out.

Hearing the familiar click of the door, I'd finally be brought out of my constant contemplations to look at Helmsford, even about to ask how long I'd been in here. But the person who came in, wasn't Helmsford, rather it was a rather young looking woman who had lovely long black hair with stylistic streaks of silver. She came in with a highborn bearing and looked down at me as if from a high pedestal. To top it off, she was wearing some low cut dress that showed off what really had to be at least triple D breasts, which was being pressed upward to appear all the more full. The dress itself was a deep shade of emerald green and was beset with silver threads that added a particular glint to the dress.

Unfortunately for her, the moment I saw the breasts I remarked almost instantly. "Well, I see someone who's gonna have some hell of a back problem." Immediately afterward I walked toward a tray to get a biscuit, "Helmsford is busy I guess? Who are you, a new maid?" Meanwhile I'd use the scan feature, the biscuit freezing on it's way to my mouth, falling out as I saw the result and heard her say, "Don't you talk back to me you naughty boy, ruining your father's study, I should lash you myself!" Fuck you bitch, you're the cause!

Poison –Rank C Lvl 7– With the skills of poison, if you manage to make any enemy of this woman you can be sure that your death will be so painful that you'll question if there exists any good in this world.

Poison Arts Cultivation –Rank B Lvl 3– The secret Smith family Cultivation arts, these are a secret among the Smith family and were passed down from their original hybrid ancestor who was born from a... Well, that's a secret of course. Suffice it to say, the whole family are Poison freaks!

Swallowing my own saliva that filled my mouth, I'd finally figure out why I was poisoned... Well, when the answer was so plainly obvious, it would be hard to not figure it out. Taking a cautious step backward, I'd open my mouth, but no words would come out as I stared into the face of Alexis' killer, who was staring daggers at me. There was hate in her eyes, a hatred I knew too well, it was the hate caused by getting in the way of someone's plans, I'd seen that hatred directed at me by that bitch... That bitch... THAT BITCH!

Suddenly, my hands gripped into fists as I'd scream out. "GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE YOU HOMEWRECKING WHORE!!!" Looking surprised at my outburst, the woman's eyes soon flashed with anger, but before she could make a move, Helmsford entered in a hurry. "what's going on, Young Master why were you yelling?" Seeing Amy, he'd stop then moved to step between them, "Madam Smith, what's brought you here? I thought you were going to visit your son." His voice cooled, I noticed it, he didn't like her either. An ally, someone who could help me... Yes! Recovering myself, I'd watch that woman from behind Helmsford back as she huffed angrily. "I just came to check on this child, he'd been in here for days, and with his, sickness, he could have spread it to Arnold's study." Sickness, bullshit... You poisoned me... Days? Multiple? Huh, also I know that father's name now!

Thankfully the woman left, once she did, Helmsford let loose a relieving sigh and turned to look at me. "Young Master, why did you say something so rude to your step-mother?"

Step-mother? I see, but... An ally. Taking a deep breath, I'd look at Helmsford seriously, a deep look in my eyes. "Because that bitch is the one who killed me, the one who poisoned me, and likely poisoned my mother... I died Alfred Helmsford, and that dream was a whole other life I led... And when I woke up, I knew what had killed me... I know who had killed me. That bitch is a poison expert, she killed me." Me, me me me, can't tell him that I'm not Alexis, Can't tell him everything, but I can tell him enough that he can put the dots together. "But no one else can know Helmsford, otherwise she may poison everyone in here to save herself... So please, tell no one, not even my father Arnold, about this... Not yet anyways."
