2 Ch. 1 A Strange New World

When I woke up, there was something strange. First of all, why the hell am I not on fire?! Sitting up, I'd look around in confusion, my eyes automatically gazing at my wrists in confusion to see there was no cuts, no bandages, hell there wasn't even a scar! Also, why were my hands so small? With a confused expression, I'd look around and notice something about the space I'm in... It's far bigger than my old room, and there's a damned candle on the table in the center of the room. No light fixtures, not even a window.

I'd move to stand up and promptly fell down. Landing with a groan onto the cold stone floor, I'd sit up slowly and look around yet it doesn't seem like I slipped just... The floor was a lot further down then I thought. Sighing in annoyance, I'd get up and brush off my... Nightgown?

Looking down at the soft white gown, I couldn't help but to utter, "This is the weirdest afterlife... If this is hell, then Satan needs to lay off the D&D." Still, I could see a mirror near a dresser and walking over, I think, I screamed for almost a minute... Maybe more.

"Okay, okay... I'm a kid... I'm some pipsqueak... Okay, calm down... We can calm down... WHY AM I A KID?!!" I got a bit out of hand, and I swear that I wasn't that loud but... "Young master, Young master what is it!?" The door swung open, a man dressed in what I could only describe as a butler came rushing in, an expression of worry and anxiousness. Of course I was less concerned with the strange man's worry and more with how he looked.

"Alfred...?" Yep, that's right, this guy looked exactly like Batman's butler, from the wrinkles on his cheeks and balding head, to the very way he was dressed. He even carried himself like the butler you see in those animated movies! "Umm, yes sir, that is my name... Though, when did I inform Young Master of that?" Holy shit he had his name too! I think I almost freaked out from that so much that I managed to move past the fac-nope now I remember.

"Why am I short? Who are you, where am I? What kind of fucking hell is this place?" I'd start running off questions that I couldn't help but to have, one after another while keeping a safe distance from the butler who called me, "wait a minute, why did you call me Young Master?"

Considering I probably sounded like an insane person, that butler seemed to take things quite well as he started to murmur to himself, "Could Young Master's sickness have caused him memory loss?" Hearing that, I'd blink a bit in surprise before finally... Shutting the hell up. While the butler seemed to contemplate how to answer or maybe to throw me in the looney bin, I meanwhile calmed myself down and thought of the situation.

First off, I seem to not be in Hell, or Heaven, or whatever the afterlife is. If I am, then this is the strangest afterlife ever... I don't think I'm dreaming either, since my dreams never start off with me questioning my own existence like this... Plus there's less screaming, well... at least I was the only one screaming, which is new.

All together, I guess this is a new reality and I'm in a different body. Which does bring up some questions, how are we speaking Modern English? Well, I don't think asking would end well and since he seems to be thinking that I lost my memory, may as well play that up.

Making sure I calmed down somewhat, I'd approach the butler carefully, looking at him curiously. "Alfred... That's your name right... How did I know that? How come I can't remember my own name... Everything is so weird, can you help me, please?" And turn on the waterworks... now! Just like that a few trembling tears ran down my cheeks, add on the small body and pitiful expression and I'd like just the perfect sympathetic victim.

And like the cat to a cardboard box, that butler fell into my trap. Even with my barely functioning social skills I could tell he was becoming sympathetic, looking at me with worry and kindness. Finally he'd reach to a pocket, pulling out a handkerchief to tenderly wipe my eyes. "Now now Young Master, there's no need to cry, everything will be alright, just alright. I'll help you no problem at all, not at all." He'd smile, a gentle tender old man smile. "Your name Young Master is Alexis Dueller. You've been very sick for the past few days now and we all were very worried that you wouldn't make it. Yet you seem to have recovered greatly, which is good! Now don't worry about your memories, I'm sure they'll come back to you."

Listening, I'd slightly grimace at the mention of my name, a girl's name... But I definitely feel my thing dangling... Whatever, a name's a name, no biggie. With my name, I'd nod a bit and make a surprised expression. "Th-that does sounds familiar... I think I've heard that name before. But... I don't know..." Sighing now, I'd shake my head before looking a bit saddened. "Alfred, I... Could you give me some time to myself? I, I want to try and grab onto something, it's like I have something there with my name... But it's only barely."

Of course the old man bought it, smiling and nodding his head. "Of course of course, I'll have a maid bring you some tea and snacks, you try and rest. Your memories will return, I know it." Responding with a smile, I'd nod and would walk over, climbing into the bed and looked at the butler with a gentle expression. "Thank you for being so understanding Alfred." And like that, the butler left the room.

Heaving a sigh of relief, I'd shake my head, then waited a few minutes before murmuring quietly to myself. "Okay, so... New world, new body, and much younger... I'm also either nobility or at least part of a wealthy family." Looking around the room, I'd then crawl to the bed's headboard, moving the pillows out of the way before leaning against it. Pushing the night gown down a bit, I'd pull my arms in from the sleeves of the gown and wrapped them around my legs.

"I also seem to be in some kind of medieval setting, there's definitely no electricity or gas lighting. So definitely not a time of industrial revolution. I wonder what I'll do now? Hmm, don't normally people gain cheat powers when something like this happens?"

Slipping an arm out from the gown, I'd reach out, trying to tap on the air, seeing if something would show up. And... It actually did! Blinking a bit with surprise, I'd look at the strange gentle blue holographic display that showed up... Maybe I'm inside a game?
