Chapter 4: The boundary of Love

The people were now sound asleep as several snores could be heard, there were those that stayed awake to keep watch for any incoming horde coming or worse. But the sounds of shouting could be heard as the group that left came back from their mission with someone new but instead of happy faces the people had horrid expressions.

"Boss you're back and with a princess in your arms, congrats"

"Wow…maybe we should go out and get a princess too…..I'm jealous"

"Shut up before I beat your asses"

"hahahha"

The group was in high spirits their mission to check for survivors, get supplies and even a new base was a success add to it their commanders long time wish they couldn't help but be happy. But not all of them were happy at the scene as murmurs were heard.

"Look at her…..she's so white….did she?"

"And those eyes….. just what are they thinking bringing her here?"

Several others voiced their complains as a giant guy walked towards them and glared at Chika.

"I don't know what you're thinking, just because you helped us don't think you can just do anything you want!"

The man shouted at them and Chika lowered her head but she felt Daichi's hand tighten onto her hands and he gave her a smile to calm her down and then faced the man.

"What do you mean? We saved someone that's what we do so why are you agitated?"

To his words, the man shouted louder and it woke up the people inside the building, then chaos ensued as more voices echoed out.

"What's a zombie doing here?! Get her out!"

"Eeek get away get away!"

The group Daichi arrived with tried to stop the people from causing a scene but they couldn't. Then the man stepped closer towards Chika.

"I'll take her out, I'll deal with the monster"

And at that moment a loud thud echoed throughout the building and quickly silenced the murmurings of the people. The large man that was taller than him was down on the floor as Daichi was twisting his arm.

"If you so as to lay a single finger on her…."

Chink

A blade struck the ground just mere inches in front of the man's eyes, reflected the face of the one on top of him as he glared at the man and the people.

"I'll show you what a true monster is!"

At his words, all the thoughts of trying to harm the girl were erased but they were still uneasy. Then a boy quickly ran to them and when Chika saw this she too ran towards the crying boy.

"Neechan! Neechan!"

"Hiro!"

The sight of a young boy clinging to the girl caught the eyes of all the people, and they saw the girl hugging the kid as she shed tears of her own, they suddenly felt guilty for their earlier words. Daichi who saw this had a warm smile on his face as the group who came with them shed some tears at the heartwarming scene.

"Now if anyone one of you can tell me that this girl is dangerous then say it while looking at them! She is proof that those that are bitten don't all turn into them and maybe there's a way to cure it with her help. And I'll tell you this, I won't be leaving without her and any that is against that can go fuck off"

After saying this the people quickly dispersed, some still had uneasy feelings but they couldn't say anything else after what Daichi said. The night passed as Chika was now in a room with her brother, he cried himself to sleep and Chika was staring at the moon with a blank expression as she heard a few knocks on the door.

"Can I come in?"

"It's open for you"

Daichi then entered the room with two cups of coffee, seeing this Chika had a smile on her face, he then sat next to her as they both gazed out the window.

"Here, careful it's hot"

He then handed her one of the mugs as he drank some of the coffee, she took it and stared at the mug and took a small sip. And she spoke a few words.

"….I can't taste it"

She said in a low voice as she stared at the mug, after becoming half dead she couldn't feel nor taste the same as a human.

"More for me then"

He then snatched the mug and took a sip from it at the same spot her lips touched seeing this she looked away for a second.

"You're cute when you act embarrassed"

At his words he felt pinching on his side as Chika looked at him with a frown, he the chuckled a bit as he apologized.

"Can…Can I really come with you?"

Daichi's happy go lucky smile quickly disappeared as he then had a serious expression, seeing this Chika almost flinched as she then saw her cheeks stretch as Daichi pinched her cheeks and stretched it.

"I~D~I~O~T"

She blinked twice as she heard this as he then saw him gripping both of her hands.

"Wh..what?"

"You should be asking if you can leave, which you can't hmmp, I won't let you leave even if you want to and if you do I'll follow you…wait I should do that, alright let's just leave the three of us"

At his sudden idea, she had a puzzled look as Daichi continued.

"After I left for uni…..haaah the word went and got caught in the apocalypse…we kept in contact but until the lines fell that is so I quickly came back but it was hard. I had to meet up with people gather supplies and we made a community, oh the guys you met were the people I was with

community, oh the guys you met were the people I was with…don't know why they kept calling me commander, I hate it….we kept moving from one place to another but made a couple of forts to hold people and fight against hordes and they suddenly made me their leader….haaaah but I don't care if anything happens I'll leave with you and journey to the a good home, maybe we can just clear this place yeah that would be good and-"

As he continued a muffled laugh could be heard and he glanced towards Chika who covered her mouth while she laughed.

"hahaha…..you….you still haven't changed Daichi…I'm glad….you're still the same idiot I know"

He then smiled as he made her laugh, seeing that laugh after so long made his mind feel at ease.

"And I'm glad that you're still the same girl I loved"

To his words, Chika smiled at him and then held his hand tighter.

"I….I"

Before she could say it he quickly silenced her with a kiss and after parting as thin line appeared between them she had a flushed expression.

"I know"

She leaned her head on his shoulder as the two stared at the moon, as it shone on the two.

The next day

Several people were moving through the desolate land, only a few walking corpses were seen here and there and they were lucky they didn't ran into any hordes, but as soon as they got saw a large barricaded city, a horde was approaching it.
