2 Explained

Jade felt a friendly aura come from Evverlon. His gentle eyes found hers.

Graceful, swift and quickly he moved towards Jade. She saw a twinkle in his eye.

"Such a poor girl, you are."

Evverlon had a flat, smooth voice with a medium pitch.

"Don't pity the girl that's the last thing she wants."

"Varack you never change" Evverlon sighed.

Jade approached the yellow dragon. "Hello" she said trying to smile "oh why hello." A grin plastered his face.

Jade raised her hand placing it on Evverlons snout. She could feel his warm breath and rough scales. He met her bluey-grey eyes.

"Such a beautiful child."

Jade actually liked this dragon, finally a real smile stretched across her lips. Somehow Evverlons company put her at ease. Nesryn noticed Jades muscles relaxing. Considering she was so tense earlier.

The witch whispered to Varack "I think we found her a Fireheart" the red dragon had a look of sorrow. "He's a likeable creature."

Nesryn knew he was hurt.

A clap interrupted the two's conversation "well time to check."

Jade was confused "check what?"

Nesryn smirked "you'll see~."

Nesryn concentrated, softly closing her eyes. She locked both hands around the staff placing it in front of her body. Jade stood a fair distance from Evverlon.

Varack watched with gentle eyes.

Remembering when Nesryn did this for him.

The green orb started to glow, becoming brighter with each second. A stream of green light drifted from the orb. Floating towards Jade. Swirling around in a green spiral.

It did the same with Evverlon. Glistening in his eyes.

Jade felt a tingling sensation, growing weak within her knees. But refusing to fall. Nesryn scrunched her forehead, the dried up bark unfurling and freezing as it reached up.

Her eyes shot open, bright white light swallowing her pupils. That green, glowing fog of light surrounding Jade and Evverlon. Touched their heads. Entering deep inside.

Nesryn felt two thumps. Again she felt it. Evverlon and Jades heart. Green splashed out into her vision revealing the red organ.

Their heartbeats were in sync, the first sign of a potential bond. Nesryn poured her magic, allowing it to travel deeper and deeper.

Varack watched the two floating bodies, eyes closed. And Nesryn concentrated on finding the connection. Varack lowered his body, averting his eyes as her magic burst.

Nesryn found it both their souls glowing with energy. A mark appeared on Jades arm and on Evverlons chest. The symbol of Fireheart.

The green magic vanished the orb going dim. The branches once more curling around the orb. Nesryn came back to reality her eyes that beautiful brown again.

Jade and Evverlon became conscious staring at the new mark. "What's this?!" The raven haired girl started to freak "it's the mark of a Fireheart" Jade was again confused.

"The bond between dragon and human basically a companionship."

"I get half of it."

Varack rolled his eyes "stupid" Nesryn wacked him he roared in pain. "Its rare to happen so quickly usually it takes years! But...I guess in a way your destined soul mates."

Jade was filled with worry "this is all happening fast I get a Fireheart. Not told everything like...why???"

Nesryn spoke " Your aiding us in this war. To save my friends all help is welcome."

"I'm 10!"

The witch glared "I've been battling in this war since I was 8! Your mother is to be executed! I will not let that happen!"

Jade sighed "so what's the plan?"

Evverlon half smiled at her resistant involvement.

Varack set his belly on the ground and bent his legs. Nesryn hoped on, her staff glowed an aura surrounded Jade. Using her magic she placed Jade upon Evverlons back.

The yellow and red dragon had their wings stretched out wide. Ready to take flight.

Claws moved against the stone cave scraping as they ran. Wings shifted and then battered into motion. Both dragons were in the air, the cool breeze whipping the two girls hair.

Jade looked down at the landscape that appeared so tiny. She marvelled at the view. Wondering how this must feel to these creatures.

She looked over at the witch her brown locks caught in the wind. Tangling in a bunch behind her. The destination unknown to the human girl.

Jade lowered her head to speak to Evverlon. "Where are we headed?" He grinned "wherever Nesryn may lead."

He was always so cheerful.

Jade opened her eyes softly awoken by Nesryns voice. "Jade your awake, good now...I must tell you where we are."

Jade sat up rubbing her eyes she looked around curious. A small, sliver lake surrounded by green grass. Laid out before her view.

"Um...when did I fall asleep?"

Nesryn stared directly at her, "3 hours ago"

"3 hours!" Nesryn placed a finger on her lips, squishing them shut.

"Tis alright child, fatigue is strong a tiny thing like you must rest."

"She's right" a smooth voice said.

Evverlon was curled in the position like a cat. Varack was sat rump down, two front legs up. Beside the lake staring into his reflection. Not speaking.

Surprisingly.

Jade looked back to the witch. "Eralys is where we have come."

Pine trees were circled around the lake with big grey mountains behind. Snow littered it's rocky edge.

"Why have we come here?"

"To see Gren."

The young girl knew that name, a man, a wizard, powerful, ambitious and kind. The last person alive to see the dragon king Ravaron. For he took down the cruel beast ending it's pointless massacre.

How long ago that was now the wizard old by age.

"Varack."

The red dragon trudged towards the witch, dropping to her height so she could hop atop him. Jade begun the same to Evverlon.

Once more they were flying high in the sky. Wings flapping down and above to a pulsing beat.

Frosty, cold weather nipped at Jades bare skin. Little clouds of mist shaping the oxygen she breathed. The two dragons directed their bodies to a small stone building, almost like a hut, carved into the side of the mountain.

They'd gone from chilly grasslands with clear water. To tall, grey rocks in an area cold enough. That it felt like eternal winter.

Both dragons landed effortlessly a metre from the entrance. The two girls slid off their scaly backs. Entering the wizards home.

Cauldron, glass bottles lined along wooden shelves, a floating broom cleaning the room itself. Bubbling, popping sounds coming from the black cauldron it's blue liquid gurgling inside.

And in the middle of all this a wizard wearing a similar robe to Nesryn. Light grey hair so thin it looked brittle. On top his head was a bald patch.

Nesryn coughed loudly, he spun around with a wheezy gasp. Knocking several test tubes down. Chemicals spilling on the floor.

"Oh my, oh my! BROOM!" he yelled his voice croacky and strained.

The broom came whishing over. Cleaning the spilt potions.

"Clumsy as ever I see, I caught you engrossed in your studies again."

The old wizard managed to get his attention to Nesryn. "Ooh yes it seems that way."

The cauldron churned, hissing and spitting out hot blue slop. Gren raised his hands in the air, worry on his face as he raced over to stop it.

After 6 minutes it calmed.

"Sorry bout that love." Nesryn just waved her hand at him "so what can I do?"

She gestured to Jade and said "we have a new aid but... she's been fed myth about dragons."

Gren went wide eyed stumbling towards Jade. "Your really your mother's daughter."

The 10 year old was fascinated by this wizard. His awakrd stance and goofy character, just like the stories.

"Though I disagree with dragons, it's such an honour sir! I have heard many wonderful things."

Gren stood proudly "have you?" Nesryn pinched the bridge of her nose. Shaking her head "child do not fill his ego."

Gren poked his tongue at her. He patted himself down then asked "what's your opinion of my scaly friends?"

Jade opened her jaw making a big mistake. "They do not think before they act. They are cold hearted creatures who kill for pleasure!" She rambled on about her ideas on them. Shouting the same stuff he'd heard many times from those who hated dragons.

The stories stiched to corrupt the brains of naive fools.

"Yes...how very common your path is of them. But do you still see Evverlon that way?" Jade paled.

"Evverlon...he's different."

Gren shrugged his shoulders and spread his arms. Twisting his mouth into an arch.

"So? Aren't all dragons like that. How can Evverlon be different if he is a dragon?"

Jade was speechless uncertain of what to say. Nesryn was about to step in when Jade blew up.

"You killed Ravaron! So how can you say dragons are your friends?! When you slaughtered the KING!!! For gold!!!"

The wizard sighed, stroking his long beard "I see." He walked down and sat on a stool. His wrinkled face looked at the girl.

"Young lady I saved him, Ravaron was far gone. The dragon he used to be faded. But that dragon had every right to be mad his children were murdered."

Small twinkles scattered across the room connected dot-to-dot. Revealing a younger Gren sparks crackling from his fingers. Injuring the dragon king. Sending the giant tumbling to his death each time Grens magic struck.

Then a calm look appeared on the beast face, scenery changing to two mates standing before another.

A soft, rumble talking "Gren if I ever go wild, please as my friend...slay me" Gren looked baffled.

He regained his stance "how can you ever expect me to do that?!" Ravaron smiled weakly "I do not wish harm among these people...my rage will blind me, unleashing a side suppressed within myself. Like every dragon instinct takes a hold. Only then can you stop with strong willpower. But it also depends what has angered us too."

"But why ask me of this when you are fine?"

Ravaron went grim "I'm hiding my young, knights will find us and it is that time when I am afraid I will not be there and lose them. Every dragon must be prepared for the moment we come undone and pounce."

The small sparkles vanished, returning their attention back to Gren. Jade cupped her mouth. "D-did you-"

"no" he stood up "that is pure magic able to let you see the past."

The little girl felt a hand squeeze her shoulder. Nesryn nodded her head towards the wizard.

He gave a sad smile "it is you who chooses what is the truth and a lie." Jade let a tear slide down her cheek.

"What has upset you love?" The old wizard asked.

"H-how could you kill your friend?"

He sighed "I am not a coward...but a true friend to the mighty Ravaron. What I tell you is I refused to let anyone shame the memory of him...especially just for gold."

Nesryn cut in "Gren granted his wish. A loyal man helps.

Another squeeze of her shoulder indicated it was time to leave.

They both turned to the door.

"I bid you farewell Nesryn."

She gave a gentle smile in return.

As they exited the little hut seemed to cloak itself. Nseryn went wide eyed.
