3 Basic Magic

It had been a week since the introduction and we were told to try to feel the energy around us. But I don't understand what he means by that. I mean, how can you "feel" energy. And as I was sitting and wondering about that "she" approached me.

"Hello. I heard you were in the army before this as well?" I looked up and saw her crimson hair swaying in the breeze.

"That is correct. I heard you were part of the royal guards relaxing in the palace while I was on the battlefield slaughtering our enemies." I answered her with a slight smirk and then I saw her brow twitch. How cute.

"Oh? Are you making fun of the royal guards?" She said in a threatening tone of voice and put her hand on the hilt of her sword while her eyes gradually became colder.

"Sister, you shouldn't act this way. Sorry. And yeah, I did make fun of the guards, but it was just a joke." I answered her with a slight smile on my face.

She released her grip on the sword and sat beside me. "I am sorry. I shouldn't have acted that way brother. And I have another question, why are you not speaking with our siblings?" She asked me with curious eyes.

"Pfft! I thought you would have figured it out Sasha." I laughed a little with a smile on my face but then I became serious. "I don't trust you guys yet. You see, I am not a scheming bastard, Sasha. I am a soldier. Therefore, why would I try to butter myself up to those nobles. No offence Sasha." I said and then I looked at Sasha with an awkward expression.

"None taken. But I guess you are right. As a soldier you don't scheme. What you do is you have each others backs. Nothing else." She said with a sigh. "But that isn't going to work anymore Kalum. We both know how many people are going to try to get to master through us."

"Yeah. Just the number alone this past week has been... quite surprising." I said looking around cautiously.

"What is it?" She asked me with a serious expression.

"I feel it..." I could feel something.

"It, it is coming..." I stood up and got into a battle stance.

Then I lowered myself and waited for impact when... I opened my eyes and saw a cute little rabbit. I looked at it and could feel something big inside of it... beating. I could feel something flow through its body.

"Hey! Kalum, what are you doing?" She asked me and I snapped back and awkwardly laughed.

"I think I just felt energy or... more like I sensed it. It was just so big and felt a bit horrifying. Haha." I laughed awkwardly and smiled at Sasha.

"Wait. You sensed energy?" She asked me with widened eyes. "And you said this rabbit was radiating energy?"

I nodded which made Sasha ponder for a moment and then she took my arm and began to drag me somewhere while I was pouting. And before I knew it, we were before the sage, Samuel.

"So. You say you sensed the energy coming from this rabbit?" I nodded repeatedly. "Can you still feel it?" I nodded again. "Hmm. That is good. You are now able to at least sense it. But to sense it in an animal, that is a rare talent my boy."

"Umm, what does that mean Samuel?" I asked him and he smiled gently at me and patted my head.

"What I mean is that you are able to become a sage of nature." He then took out a plant which radiated energy as well. "Is there energy radiating off of this too?" I nodded and he smiled. "Good. Fantastic. This means that you are able to become a nature magician." He then looked at Sasha. "Sasha, are you able to sense energy as well?"

Sasha was calm and nodded. "Yes. I was able to sense it from the fire from the torches in the halls." She said which made Samuel laugh.

"Then are you jealous of Kalum?" Samuel asked with a slight smile.

"No. Why should I be jealous just because he was able to sense energy before me?" She asked as she looked at Samuel.

He smiled at her response. "Good. I hope that the others are also able to sense energy soon as well. But since you two are able to sense it, that means you are now ready to be taught the basics of magic." He said and then he clapped like when he made the speech.

The doors closed and then Samuel said, "Alright. Now nobody will hear us. So, first let me talk about the ten levels of mortal magic. The 0th level. The 1st level. The 2nd. The 3rd. The 4th. The 5th. The 6th. The 7th. The 8th. And lastly the 9th. Those are the ten levels of mortal magic. The three types of magic beyond this realm are, forbidden, spirit, and holy. Those three are magics beyond the realm of mortal magic and are usually not practiced by normal people."

He then looked at each of us with a gentle smile again. "Although I speak of these three types of magics, I am personally only an 8th level mortal magician. But back to the main topic at hand. The three types of magic are said to very mysterious and not easily understood. But what I do know is when you reach the peak of the 9th level, that is where you choose your path between the three." He paused for a second and looked around carefully for some reason. Then he spoke with the most serious expression he has ever made. "And I have to tell you, forbidden magic is forbidden for reasons. The reason why the first 10 levels of magic are called "the ten levels of mortal magic" is because once you are able to do magic beyond the first ten levels you are no longer a mortal. Of course, something inside of you changes. I have heard stories of people who grew wings, horns, tails, some even had their whole bodies change to that of an animal, and some others became a mix between different ones. That is why I ask you again, are you two sure you want to become able to use magic?"

And we both immediately answered, "Yes, sir!"
