7 Surveillance Day 4, The Scholar. -Chapter 6-

The slime had now entered the Town of Licrom. Luckily for it, unlike most larger towns, Licrom has no large-scale barrier protecting from monsters below B-Rank entering. Of course, such a barrier would not affect tamed monsters.

The elf named Alfin entered through the guards with relative ease. By the familiar words the guards stationed at the entrance and the elf had for each other, it can be inferred that the elf is a resident of this town, often leaving and entering quite often.

The slime was confused by its current predicament. For, it could only barely move within the pocket of the elf. However, due to the fact it sensed no bloodlust from the entity that picked it up, it felt no fear, and instead calmly did nothing. That is mostly because it can not do anything, whether it would want to or not.

Eventually, the elf reached the location he hoped to reach, a small building seemingly fit to house one person. It was, however, large enough for a person to live in with relative ease. It was close to most other buildings, made out of wood, and with a foundation made of stone. It had a small overhanging roof, and from the front, no window, only a door.

The elf opened the door, walking inside. On the inside of the small house, it was incredibly messy. There were all sorts of books strewn all across the floor. There was a small bed made to just barely fit one person on the top right of the one-room. The floor was made out of stone, within the back corner another door leading to what seemed to be a small backyard area.

There were a few shelves on the left of the room, and a window looking outside to the backyard area. With that said, the elf carefully removed the slime from his pocket, placing it on the flat area before the window.

"Okay. Sorry for the bumpy ride, little buddy." The elf smiled at the slime, "Now... let's see here."

The elf turned around, going on his hands and knees looking for some sort of book, "I really have to clean this place up... oh, there it is!" He grabbed a small book with the words 'Monsterpedia' written on the top and the name 'A.G Engel', the probable author of the book.

He turned around back to the slime of which had yet to move an inch, only taking in the feeling of the new yet familiar stone which it sat upon. The elf opened the book, flipping through the pages until he reached a specific page.

"Ah, here's the page I was looking for!" He layed his finger below some words, beginning to read as he moved his finger in sync with his words, "'Basic Slime Evolution and Colour: An unevolved slime will almost always be a specific bright shade of blue. However, when a slime is exposed to a high concentration of mana when splitting from its counterpart, both slimes will become green. This will allow a slime to evolve, as opposed to a blue slime which will split into two when reaching level ten. It is believed that a slime is still able to separate into two when it reaches the correct level, and now has the choice between evolution and the former when green.' Hm... interesting, but that doesn't explain why you're not attacking me."

The elf began to flip through more and more pages but came up with nothing. A heavy sigh left his mouth.

"Well, it seems you're quite the mystery, my gelatinous friend... Not tamed, yet completely passive... There has to be some reasoning to this..." The elf whispered these words to himself. The Corrupting Message was not yet known information, perhaps known only by the mindless monsters.

"Why are you different from every other monster? Or perhaps there's more like you..." The elf spoke as if the slime could actually answer, but the slime only listened to the words, not comprehending their meaning.

Now, instead of just sitting there doing nothing, the slime accidentally fell off. The elf continued to speak to himself, pondering why the slime acted passively. While this was happening, the slime slowly slid over to the elf, reaching his shoe.

"Hm?" The elf snapped out of his muttering, realizing the new placement of the slime, "Oh, I'm sorry. Are you perhaps hungry? I might have a kaja fruit, I've heard slimes have a particular fondness for them."

The elf looked around in a pantry for some time, coming up with a small oval-shaped fruit. It was a sunny orange colour, with a thin edible peel. The elf placed it in front of the slime, waiting for it to consume it.

The slime, not knowing that there was a fruit in front of it, simply followed the sound of the elf's voice. Because of this, it ended up on the fruit, consuming it.

It was amazed. This strange thing it had just eaten was simply incredible. It had yet to ever devour anything sweet in nature, as the grass it was eating before was bitter. The kaja fruit slowly dissolved inside the body of the slime, giving it the necessary nutrients to continue to live.

"Ah... the process of a slime eating something is simply amazing. A slime creates acid in order to melt down the food, yes? Quite the interesting thing... it makes me wonder how exactly this acid is made..." The elf watched the slime with a fanatic curiosity.

The elf eventually placed the slime upon his bed. "Now, you just stay there. There has to be some book here that describes your condition..."

Several hours passed. The elf spent this time reading all sorts of books on the subject of monsters, searching for an answer. The slime stayed on the bed, simply in marvel once again at this new texture.

It was now night.
