1 Chapter 0: Prologue

A long time ago, the land was desolate and empty. What was known as soil was just a handful of black sand with no property, no life. There was no such thing as a body of water, only a huge desert covering the whole face of the planet.

The "mountains" were just huge sand dunes, covered under the darkness of a blackened sky devoid of light.

The god of creation, in an act of pride to glorify himself, created with his blood the lesser gods, which would help him with the construction of a new world.

The god of the Sun would create a great star that would illuminate the sky during the day, while the god of the Moon would create his own star which would illuminate the night.

Through the tears of the god of the Water, seas, rivers, lakes, lagoons, streams and any existing body of water would be formed; on the other hand, the god of the Earth would be in charge of making the hills, mountains, volcanoes and diverse reliefs that would give way to new life.

The god of the air would create oxygen so that any organism could live without any danger; and finally, the god of the grass would establish forests, plants, trees and any surrealistic flora that could be imagined. From there, each god would create their respective spirits that would help maintain the environmental balance in the world.

With the housing created, only beings that could inhabit and subjugate it were missing, so the god of creation, based on the characteristics of the lesser gods, formed the diverse tribes that would make the earth bear fruit.

The gods provided them with the necessary knowledge to subsist, such as magic, fire, science, creation of tools, hunting, fishing and diverse activities that would continue developing throughout the years.

Everything looked good for the new world, which was called Palgarion; but little by little, negative feelings like greed, envy, wrath, lust, pride, laziness, gluttony, vainglory and melancholy started to take hold in the hearts of humans. Such feelings would lead humans to cause wars, rebellions, massacres, rapes and other aberrant acts that would be covered up by themselves.

For years, racial wars claimed many lives, and everyone thought that sooner or later hell would end, but in reality it was just beginning.

Some time later, a great cataclysm occurred at Palgarion. The skies were shattered, as if from a glass newly forged by a dwarf. The heavens and the earth shuddered like a child when they felt a slight chill. The earth broke in two, a large-scale earthquake shook even the stars themselves, a blast of trumpets violated the ears of any living being that was alive at that time.

When the tribes present looked back at their former blue sky, they now only saw the jet-black firmament accompanied by crimson cumulonimbus and, as if that were not enough, multiple breaches the size of northern aureoles furrowed over their noses.

What were those strange breaches in the sky? The inhabitants of Palgarion asked themselves, although it wouldn't take long to find out. The breaches became larger and larger as the seconds passed, then chaos erupted.

Monstrous aberrant creatures crossed the skies as if they were lightning. They were beasts of an average height of 5 meters, although some managed to exceed 10 meters. Their features ranged from dracones to amalgams of different types of animals, an aberration to nature itself.

Each monster ravaged everything in its path, villages, towns, cities or even entire kingdoms. The multiple races left their differences, and allied themselves to fight the creatures, but the only result was great massacres all over the world. The best known, the "Genvardon Massacre", where a quarter of the earth was destroyed, wiping out two entire kingdoms.

Not long after, the gods heard the prayers of their various followers throughout Palgarion, most asking for mercy, others asking for a hero to save them from annihilation. Thus, the gods intervened, and used their divine power to bring a whole army of humanoid beings with extraordinary abilities, capable of fighting one by one the monsters called "Requiems", a nickname in Elvish meaning "death without a scythe".

Although the losses were many, Palgarion was saved; the sky was restored, and the Requiems scattered around the world continued to be hunted to this day. These heroes would be called "Slayers", the heroes of the new world.
