23 Chapter 23: Prisoner

'It's cold. where am I? ugh... I can't feel my legs.'

Derrick eyes weren't open yet. His control over his senses and his body was currently insufficient to cause any movement. His eyelids felt heavy and rigid as though someone had applied adhesive to his eyelids. Moreover, the chills had assaulted his head freezing his mind and in addition it brought him intense prickling sensation.

After a while of struggling, his eyes were barely open but he could at least see now.

He was sitting in a place with stone flooring which seemed old with a lot of small cavities. Those cavities had frozen water inside it.

Derrick looked up slowly but happen to notice the iron bars blocking his path in the front. This bought him to the realisation that he was imprisoned. His arms were chained to the walls and legs were chained to the the floor.

The good thing was that he could move if he wanted because of the long chains.

He couldn't feel his limbs because of the frost which was all over his body.

'Huh? I may have been caught but the rewards was worth the suffering.'

'But why is there a D-level serum in the rewards. I guess by how they made me steal Athena it should be easy for them to get their hands on serums of any level and the bonus reward seems to be from elder wisdom. Well, thank you.'

By what Derrick knew, serums was worth fortunes and especially those above D-level.

Derrick was now holding the new Delphic card, it had the same colour as the card of protection.

'The effects are definitely useful unlike that joker card and these cards seem to have ranks too.' Derrick was sneering while comparing the effects of the card and it wasn't as if he had seen the description of the other two but he felt that this card was more useful than the card of uncertainty.

Derrick was about to use the card on himself but he soon heard weird clattering sounds. He suddenly turned his attention to the direction where the sound came from.

In one dark corner he saw the silhouette of a girl, she was shivering from the cold and she was in a similar condition to Derrick who had frost covering her body. It was Lucia since her blonde hair stood out.

Derrick without any hesitation cast the effect on Lucia. Moreover, his condition was much better than Lucia and he was a dragon even though he hasn't fully awakened his resistance to extreme climate conditions was high. His only problem was he was exhausted by the lack of magic and he didn't even have the physical energy to help him regenerate it.

"Is this your doing? I feel healthy and my magic seem to have recovered slightly." Her body had gotten rid of the frost with the recovery of magic.

Derrick was curious he was passed out the whole time he didn't know what had transpired during the time he was unconscious. " How long did I sleep? How come you are inside the cell with me?"

The conversation between them went on for a while without Lucias nasty personality appearing. Derricks had his question answered by Lucias explanation and Derrick in return explained the contract she was under as she accepted her fate.

The conversation didn't last long as Derrick heard visitors coming.

"Mr. Burningstorm how is your stay in prison? Ah, before that would you mind giving back what is not yours?" It was Dr. Joseph with his white lab coat. He wasn't allowed to torture Derrick nor was he allowed to kill him he was in a dilemma. He did decide to wait for Derrick to wake up instead of forcing him.

"Do you mean those eyes? I though it was something incredible but it turns out it was some useless experiment. So I had to throw it away?" Seeing Dr.Joseph he knew he wasn't like Lucia. His smile was not at all similar to Lucia. He could sense the deep corruption and Athena similarly told him so.

Derrick needed only a glance to analyse the person and Athena was able to grant him the required information. He knew that Athena could access all information on the Lifeguard database which meant access to all information available to top echelons of the lifeguards. He wondered why Athena's access to these information was still allowed.

Dr. Josephs lips were twitching, he couldn't get his way as he was not allowed to get physical.

"If thats the case then, its fine we will be examining your body if what you said is true or not. You are still not allowed to reveal anything to outsiders of what you have seen in the lab. Since, you have broken the laws you are subjected to imprisonment for two year during which you will have to join the Prison arena if you want your sentence reduced." Blurting out what he was supposed to Dr. Joseph appeared impatient before walking away.

Derrick wasn't a person who deserved respect but unlike Dr. Josephs appearance he was extremely respectful which was strange. Derrick wondered if the ice hell prison was treated that prisoners very kindly.

Derricks attention now fell on Athen.

Athena inject me with The D-level serum. It was always safer to become stronger. He wouldn't have been here if not for his lack of strength. He felt his body become warmer as soon as he was injected wit the serum.
