14 Chapter 14

A Simple Fisherman in RWBY

Chapter 14

- Argenti Ovans –

I tossed some more wood into the crackling campfire as I read the grimoire clutched in my hands. I frowned, took a bite of an apple, and continued studying its contents. I also looked at the incubator with the Pokémon dragon egg inside, ensuring it was fine. Honestly, I almost forgot about it ever since I entered the forest.

"…"

Beads of sweat formed on my forehead, and I started to feel frustrated as I continued deciphering the grimoire. Yes, it was no surprise that I struggled to understand and learn magic independently. This was not something I should have ever encountered in my life, and yet here we are. Moreover, I was trying to learn a lost and ancient magic, which was even more complex.

I never came into contact with magic, and now I'm trying to learn it. It was simply ridiculous, and sadly, I'm not a genius or a cheat person. I was merely a fool trying to do the impossible. I sighed and closed the grimoire as I massaged my forehead. I put the grimoire on my lap as I stared at the sky full of beautiful stars and the broken moon… I felt so little in this broken world.

I'm also unsure if I can even learn magic in Remnant! These are two different worlds. Also, many terms or common sense in Fairy Tail might not work here! For example, Ethernano—I remember that being the thing that fuels their magic and is present everywhere, like in the atmosphere, right?—but does Remnant have something similar or close to it?

Also, I saw a passage in the grimoire that told you to feel the shadow and harness it. I'm sorry, but that means nothing to me. Do I even have the minimum talent to be a wizard in the first place!? I was in turmoil when I thought about the Shadow Dragon Slayer Magic. It was a great magic with great potential, yet it also had many disadvantages, mainly the dragonification, which scared me the most.

Dragonification… A phenomenon where a human gradually transforms into a dragon. This transformation is often associated with Dragon Slayer Magic, a unique type of magic that allows individuals to take on the characteristics of dragons. Dragon Slayers, who are practitioners of this magic, risk undergoing dragonification when they overuse their powers or are exposed to extreme circumstances.

I'm not the main character that could face the danger head-on. I'm also alone, unlike Natsu and his friend. Even Rogue, the original user of the shadow dragon slayer magic, had someone who had his back. I honestly had no one close to me…, but that was on me since I didn't bother to put effort into my existing friendships as I grew older, and I lost many great friends along the way.

I became even more frustrated as I lost myself in my sudden turmoil. I wanted to learn magic! I wanted to succeed in something in this second life. I didn't want to live a monotonous life once more. I yearned for success and accomplishment.

Even if I had to learn the infamous dragon slayer magic, I knew I had to. Alas, I knew I couldn't understand it on my own. I accepted that, but that didn't make it any better. If only someone could teach me the simple basics of magic. Then again, I doubt there was any existing wizard in Remnant, and I doubt I could travel to the Fairy Tail verse.

"…"

"Fuck me…" I groaned as I pinched the bridge of my nose. I'm a fucking angst idiot… I sighed, reached into my pocket, and took out a golden key. I looked at the golden key with some complications. I almost forgot that I fished a native from Fairy Tail. I'm sure she could respond to my question and clear my doubts.

Celestial Spirits are… extraordinary magical beings that form a connection with celestial wizards through the use of celestial keys. These specially crafted keys unlock magical gates, allowing wizards to summon these entities from the Celestial Spirit World. Each celestial key is complicatedly linked to a particular spirit, resulting in various appearances, personalities, and abilities among these beings.

The origin of celestial spirits remains unknown to this day, and no recorded report of their creation exists. They have seemingly existed for as long as people can recall.

In my case, I have a golden zodiac key: Virgo. Zodiac keys are based on the zodiac sign and represent the twelve constellations. Generally, golden zodiac keys are more powerful and are associated with impressive abilities. For example, the Virgo I knew was a powerful earth manipulator.

Anyway, how am I supposed to invoke Virgo? I'm not knowledgeable enough about the system behind it besides Lucy using her magic and invoking them with their respective key. It has been a long time since I watched or read about Fairy Tail to recall any obscure information. Moreover, the Remnant I know was a world without magic where individuals fight with aura against those terrifying Grimm.

I suddenly thought of something: Aura. What if I substituted the magic in the equation with aura? I think my solution might work when I put more thought into it. If I poured my aura inside the key, it could possibly trigger the invocation mechanism. That was the only solution I could think of without actual experimentation. I could maybe try using dust instead of my aura if it doesn't work.

That was the only energy source I could think of that could trigger the key. I looked at the golden key in my hand and shrugged. It might be worth a shot, and I don't have a better solution. It's not like I can use magic, like the wizard in the Fairy Tail world. I was just a fool with a big dream.

I gazed at the golden key with determination, and somehow, I don't know if I was imagining it, but I felt a slight warmth for a split second. It was as if it was calling me…

I closed my eyes as I exhaled and immediately poured my aura inside the key. I kept the connection steady for the next few minutes, but nothing major happened. The golden key became warmer by my touch, yet I wasn't disappointed. I kept feeding even more aura into the key. I'm sure I was right, and I only needed to feed more aura into the key.

I'm right.

I can't be wrong.

This was my only chance.

I want to be better than that.

I can't accept this.

I will succeed.

I am not xxxx xxxxxx anymore.

I am A R G E N T I O V A N S

The Virgo key felt warmer in my hand. I didn't know if something significant had happened to it, but I knew in my heart, without a doubt, there were some changes. Unfortunately, I had to keep my eyes shut since I was too focused on feeding my aura into the key. I can't break my concentration now when I am so close, even if my aura reserve rapidly dries. I had to do it. Being aura-less in a forest infested with Grimm was dangerous, but It was worth it.

As I dropped to the ground, I started to feel dizzy and had a headache, but my sheer willpower kept me going. My grip tightened around the celestial key. I was unwilling to fail at this moment! I knew that I was close to succeeding. Just a little more time and Virgo would be in this world.

Yet, my condition worsened! It wasn't good; the strain on my body felt unbearable. The next few seconds were crucial, and I feared I might collapse from sheer exhaustion. I can't give in... not now! No…What? I suddenly felt a foreign aura inside my body, but it was familiar… Mudkip?

My bro…? I knew it! He always had my back! Then I can keep doing it for a few more…!

[…]

Despite my resolve, darkness invaded my mind, and I swayed on the edge of unconsciousness. Yet, amidst the fading consciousness, a sweet voice and a gentle warmth enveloped me. "Please sleep well, my dear master."

The voice was charming and comforting. "You still have to punish me for having you in this state."

"What?" I managed to utter before succumbing to the darkness, uncertain if the sweet voice and warmth were genuine or mere figments of my imagination.

- Mudkip –

'What is my trainer doing again?' thought Mudkip as he ate an apple. He was silently watching his trainer holding a golden key he fished out.

He could feel that his trainer was doing something reckless again, but he couldn't interfere. Mudkip decided to guard the camp until his trainer finished with his task. Mudkip stood up from his place and came closer to Argenti.

He looked at him with big eyes and watched Argenti do something with his aura. However, he did start to feel bored since Argenti only fed the golden key with his aura for the last ten minutes and nothing else. Mudkip yawned as he thought drained now.

Maybe he could find more food to keep his sleepiness in check. Mudkip stood up and looked at his trainer's bag until he heard a thud behind him.

Mudkip became worried and surprised to see his Argenti on the ground. He quickly sprinted at his trainer's side as he tapped his body. "Mud! Mudkip! Mudkip!" shouted Mudkip in desperation.

He suddenly thought of something and remembered the aura he had awakened because of his trainer. Mudkip immediately put his paw on Argenti's body and transferred some of his aura. "Mudkip…." Growled Mudkip as he started to feel tired.

He never truly trained using his aura when he awakened it and started to regret it. However, suddenly, Mudkip immediately took his paw from Argenti's body to close his eyes because a golden flash blinded his vision.

Mudkip suddenly felt someone appear beside them. He became wary but soon became confused when the person didn't attack them but held his trainer tenderly and full of concern.

"Mud…Mudkip?" said Mudkip as he tilted his head, unsure if he should attack the intruder.

The intruder also became aware of Mudkip as she smiled at him. "Hello, Mudkip. I can finally meet my master's partner. Nice to meet you. I'm Virgo, and the master's loyal maid is at your service."

"…"

Mudkip didn't know what to say about this woman and decided to sleep as he felt exhausted a little. He didn't feel any malice from this woman, so Mudkip thought it should be fine. He also thought that maybe Virgo was his trainer's mate. He can wait for his trainer to inform him about it.

He was simply a Pokémon and didn't want to think further about it.

"Ah, understandable. Please sleep well, and I shall guard the camp instead." Said Virgo with a smile as she held Argenti's exhausted and limp body for the entire night.

"Mudkip."

"Goodnight."
