6 MEMORIES CAN BE PAINFUL

"I might have an idea, where she can be, but reaching up to her won't be a piece of cake. Either you are in or out, decide, like every second, her life is at stake."

"Who are you and what do you mean by 'her life is at stake'?"

"We can introduce ourselves later first we need to save your friend." Save her? But from whom and who is he, why is he helping me, should I trust him?

"Right now you have nothing in your palms, and the thing which I have, for you now, you shouldn't squeeze it hard. The time which you will take to decide until then, your friend will be out of this country. So hurry up, we need to leave immediately."

"At some point, it makes sense, our major goal is her safety. My questions can take a few hours rest." I took a deep breath and said, "let's go".

He nodded his head, and under five seconds, a range rover flashed itself in front of us. He guided me in, and this was the moment when I realised how chaotic of a day, today was.

Here I am, in the city which I despise the most. The city which never sleeps is definitely closing its eyes on me. The flight was not long, all I'm craving is a hamburger, but I will eat it after meeting her. She does need the right amount of bashing. I got off the plane and straight went towards her office.

This publication house is indeed huge, she must be living a privileged life that's why, she is ignoring me, this girl, just meet me once. Right after the entrance, in the middle of a decorative interior, I noticed the receptionist. Without looking anywhere, I went up to her.

"Good Afternoon ma'am, how may I help you?"

"Actually, I talked with one of your staff yesterday. I can't recall that person's name though he told me to visit the main office so that the person in charge can answer my queries."

"Okay ma'am, how can I assist you?"

"Can you look into one of your employee working here, her name is Jennie."

"You are related to her, how?"

"I am her guardian." Yes, there is only one thing common between us, and that is we both don't have anyone. Her parents went away when she was five, for me, I don't even remember. All I know is, I only have her in this world, that's why I can't stand to see her leave me.

"Ma'am, can you show me your identification?" Waking me up from my thoughts, the receptionist almost screamed at me, making me half deaf.

"Yeah, sure." I handed her over my ID, she checked it quite thoroughly, and then returned it, after that she started typing something on her desktop.

"Sorry ma'am, but Ms Jennie is absent for quite a month now, the last time she was here was on her orientation day, but then she never came here."

"What do you mean by she is not coming here, where she could be? Didn't you guys tried to find it out?"

"Ma'am, she is an author, and authors don't need to visit the publication house daily. That's why we never checked on her."

"You guys at least need to call your authors to know the progress."

"Ma'am we give them a deadline and, on that day only we ask them about their progress, that's our policy here, we don't disturb them while they are working on their stories." I don't know why I am taking my anger on her, god, please.

"I am sorry, it's just that...."

"It's alright, ma'am." This was the moment when I actually felt powerless, I don't know what to do, what to ask, whom to ask. Where are you, Jennie, I hope you are alright?

I have to calm myself down. Taking two deep breaths, and clearing up my mind is the first step of helping Jen right now.

She is new to this place and, and It's not like she knows a lot of people here, except her... "Do you have her address?"

The receptionist looked into the data and handed me over her address. I immediately called a cab and went towards her place.

Nothing was right from the moment I landed here in New York City, well, history does know itself. It seems like, this place and I are utter enemies. I can guarantee on this, in my previous life I must have betrayed my country, that's why now it's taking the revenge.

I got out of the cab and rang her doorbell, nobody answered. I tried multiple times to open the door, but it was locked.

"Miss get out of the way," and from nowhere, three men came. With one swift motion, they unlocked the door and barged in. Silently, I followed them. All these guys were looking like in their mid-twenties. The first man was very chiselled and masculine, and the second one was lean and tall, as he was carrying different types of equipment along with him. The last man was well sculpted, and an authoritative aura was around him.

"Shit, we are late. That girl must have been taken." One with the equipment ended the silence.

"It's not that late we can still catch them up." The masculine man roared in assurance.

What on earth is going on? Who are these men? What are they even talking about? "Who are you, people? What are you doing at my friend's house? I will call the police if you will, stay here even a single second."

These two, Mr Masculine and Mr Lean, looked at my direction and then ignored my presence.

What is wrong with these people? "I asked why you guys to leave, right now," I screamed at the top of my lungs. When the one who was the in-charge looked my way "do you want to save your friend, then follow us, otherwise, stay and don't meddle in our business."

And that's how I ended up here in this range rover with these unknown men, to find my friend.

"Get out girl we are here." The leader of the group ordered me. What is this place?

"The Tress Spades, former headquarter." The leaned man answered this time. But what we are doing here? This is the former headquarter of my company which I work for. There are so many questions in my head that I never noticed where my legs were taking me until I heard a familiar voice.

"Leave me, please. Let me go." The moment I heard this voice, I knew who it was. From nowhere bullets started firing, and the last thing I remember is her eyes when she saw me, and then everything turned black.
