5 MEMORIES CAN BE DECEIVING

It's already been a month since I started working here. For no reason, I was so worried on my first day. Might be I am one of those few people who love their job. Everyone is kind and generous here. It took me exactly, 15 minutes to understand the working here.

Though a lot of tasks is there on my table and, sometimes I need to pull an all-nighter, but I just love doing it moreover, my home feels a bit empty after Jennie left. It's been a month, and all I am receiving a few texts from her side. Last time, she called me when she landed off the plane. I don't know what gotten into her, once in a blue moon, she texts, not even a phone call, texts. It's not like I haven't tried, multiple times I dialled her number, but she never picks it up. Every time I get these messages in alteration, 'Busy, ttyl' or 'I am with Jake, ttyl'. From the past thirty days, these are the messages I am receiving.

If she ever comes in front of me, I will make sure that that would be her last day on earth. Climbing on my nerves, you can learn from her.

But I don't know, it feels weird whenever I think about it.

She has been out for multiple trips but not even a single time she misses to tell me stuff. That's what she used to say to me, "you are my walking diary, I can't hide anything from you. Whatever it is, you will be the first person to know about it." After thinking about all these memories of us, it's hard to consider that she has forgotten about me. I will be lying to myself if I will say, 'I am okay'.

"What are you thinking about Nic?" Lifting my head up, trying to comprehend the face in this darkness.

"Hey rach, oh nothing much, just some random stuff, but what are you doing here, I thought you left."

"Well, I did but, you know my team leader, he is a dick, he called me out of all the other employees and told me to complete this presentation till morning. Is this even possible?" Well, Rachel reminds me a lot of Jennie, they both hate it when they need to work overtime.

"Sweetheart, what's the matter, you are looking all gloomy."

"Nothing too serious girl, just my best friend not been talking to me from past one month."

"What did you do?"

"Nothing, that's why it's making me anxious."

"Why don't you go to her place?"

"She lives in New York, now."

"When did she moved?"

"One month back."

"What? You are saying that the moment she moved to New York, she is not in touch with you?"

"It's not like that, I'm constantly receiving texts from her side, she tells me about what's happening and stuff, but she just texts me, only."

"So no phone calls, what is she doing there basically?"

"She is a writer, so working under a publication house."

"Might be she will be busy with work." I raised my left eyebrow and looked at her.

"Still, it doesn't make sense." She sighed and continued "Do you have like her workplace number or of someone she knows there?"

"She lives with her boyfriend, though I don't have his number. But I do have the number of her office."

"Then what are you waiting for, call her and make her talk. Also, smack her with some nice words, then ask her whereabouts."

"Sure, this would be the best." I chuckled along with her.

"Now go, I will finish my un-fascinating job." I took my phone and went towards the cafeteria, it was a bit late, but I hope someone will still be there in the office, another wise I have to try tomorrow.

It took almost 5 rings until someone picked it up, "Hello, is this number belongs to NewRead's office?"

"Hello, yes? How may I help you."

"Actually, I want to know about your new author, Ms Jennie D'Souza, can I get in contact with her."

"Sorry ma'am, but we can't give some one's information, to anyone."

"I am really sorry, I am not anyone, I am her guardian, she is not in contact with me from past a month, that's why I called."

"Sorry ma'am, we still won't be able to give you any information until and unless your identification is verified."

"Then, should I come tomorrow?"

"Yes ma'am, we don't have an issue with that."

"Thank you," and then the call just ended.

It doesn't matter how much I restrain myself from thinking about it, but my heart just keeps on pounding. I know that I have to go there, but I am feeling so much drained. All my energy is like going down the vain.

"Did you got her info?" I was caught by surprise, when that voice continued, "Why are you looking so pale, does she doesn't want to talk to you?"

"This is not the case Rach, they can't reveal their employee's identity, I have to show them my ID. I am taking a leave for tomorrow, can you please cover up for me?"

"No issues, girl." I nodded my head for the last time. I just don't feel optimistic.

If I had any sort of idea, what will stand in from of me in the future, then I would have never let her leave.
