Watchpoint: Gibraltar

(Y/N)

Today's my very first training as an Overwatch agent (although I'm not yet). I wanna be part of the strike team where agents like Reinhardt, Torbjörn and Winston are found. So I prepared as soon as possible. I immediately went to take a shower.

7 minutes later

I put on my shirt, jacket, jeans, and high cut shoes, all which in army style. I always loved to wear this kind of stuff. It feels as if I am a hero in saving lives.

Then after a last tie of the shoelace, I immediately opened the door to the outside and left my room.

I walked past the corridor. The wall was very reinforced and the lights remained overnight to keep an eye out for intruders. I wonder if the electric bill would go insanely high. They'd been like this for years and they haven't grow old. A senseful pang of excitement struck me. I slowed down my tracks as I carefully reached my titanium knife from my thigh pocket if any intruder might scare me. I watched the sides of the ceiling if there are any sentries or drones patrolling by. Nothing was expected. The path tuned left and so I followed. I remembered what Jack, I mean my 'father' told me about this occasion.

§FLASHBACK§

Yesterday

Overwatch HQ, Switzerland

14:34 🕝

We were walking towards the helicopter in order to get home. We came from an Eastern Conference where the United Nations had global issues regarding the remaining omnics in Western Africa. I never had a chance to be in battle. I wish I could but Jack wouldn't let me. He said that I was too young to be a soldier.

"(Y/N) I gotta tell you something." He called to me. He was behind me. A few meters away.

I glanced back. Curiosity hit me.

"What was that Dad?" My voice sounded like seriously as if he was my biological father. I looked up at his towering stature. He is no ordinary human.

"I'd like to offer you something. I'm sure you would be surprised if I'm going to tell you." He said.

"What is it that you offer, that I am surprised of?" I asked plainly but in first-degree curiosity.

"I'd like you to be part in the soldier enhancement program." He said it straight.

Awestruck! As if my whole life depends on it. S.E.P was my big dream! This is my opportunity. I jumped in extreme excitement. A sense of extremes had bound me into the ends of the earth that I senselessly grabbed his gun and started to....

"Hey hey hey. No no no." He suddenly grabbed the gun and put it back from his right side pocket as I almost pulled the trigger. "Are you insane?!" He shouted at me. I was deadpanned. Silence swept over the area.

Nonetheless I wrapped my arms around him , struggling to reach his height. He was above 5"5 I must say.

"Thank you, Jack." I hugged him by the neck. He was like my daddy really. A tear fell on my cheek.

It was a tear of joy.

§FLASHBACK ENDED§

I continued to walk silently around the area until I reached the area called Hangar 18.

I gazed at the wide area. In the center was a big orange circle where drones recharge. Obviously it's called the drone station just like from the manual says. The purlieu's aura was very top secret as if I'm infiltrating a secretive base. But I wonder why it is so silent here. It's just the watchpoint stationed by the ocean stepping onto the rock of Gibraltar, I thought. The faculty haven't shown up yet. Are they in a day off? This is not like the normal days, it's like spooky. The normal ones were just like, for instance I'd meet a janitor or a cargo worker, or a security guard, like that. Could they be dead? Well that's absurd.

I continued to approach the gate which has a huge Overwatch sign around it. But suddenly it opened by itself. The sound left me shocked as if I skipped a heartbeat. I almost hyperventilate at that stimulus. I gripped the knife and prepared to engage combat whenever it strikes. I entered an area full of cargo.

I looked at the watch and it's 5:13 AM. Really? Is anyone here? Oh God come on. The place was bright a bit but part of it was dim, right in the corners of the back part of the cargo. I sprinted forward as I met the outside but it was very dark.

Morrison

"Set the traps. Turn on the lights." I watched (Y/N) at every CCTV as I manage to tutor her training.

The security operator activated the traps and turned the lights on.

Y/N

The sidelights suddenly turned and I was shocked by the scene that occupied the road. Traps. This is where I start my real training.

This is where it starts everything.

I recalled every training I had before.

I remembered when Morrison enrolled me in combat sports during summer. I tried to recover every remnant of every reflex technique I learned. I took some deep breaths, inhale exhale, inhale exhale.

You can do it (Y/N). I thought.

There were numerous traps everywhere. I embraced the first one.

Morrison

And now she started it. There is no turning back (Y/N). Give it all you got to survive.

Her reflexes are fresh. I'm sure she would endure the traps I'd laid for her.

Y/N

Ugh! I hate those teeth-like steel traps. My left foot got almost caught by the fourth snap. I should've known; I need to risk my own life with this training. I continued. There were five traps as far as my vision can reach. I must be getting to the fourth.

The next trap was very realistic. Seven drones fluttered in midair. Beside me was a table with two reinforced gun tackers with a handful of ammo. Weird. I understand it now. I'm gonna use these as guns against these flying curs. Well. It's showtime!

I put back my knife in my side pocket and grabbed the gun tackers then faced the drones with a cowboy vibe. I struggled to hit any drone and luckily I hit one. The staple ammo was made of tiny steel. I ducked as two drones tried to smash into me. I immediately hit them in the back. 3 down, 4 to go.

Morrison

"Turn the difficulty to average." I ordered.

I get it. She is getting faster and better.

Y/N

I chuckled softly as I hit another one but what I expected shifted unexpectedly. The remaining drones drifted fast a bit, making them harder to hit. Then I heard something approaching me from behind. I turned back but it was too late. A drone crashed right into me, leaving me tossed in midair. I stumbled upon the ground. I ached at the sudden pain. The guns were far from my reach. I had difficulty in crawling, I struggled to maintain my stand but I fell back. An idea suddenly struck me. I signaled the drones with a wave. Then the three drones started to approached me; according to plan. They sprinted then, about to crash into my head.

I suddenly grabbed the first drone then threw it at the other with an exhaustively force by my left hand. My plan worked perfectly. The two came down then crashed to the ground. One left.

As I finished gather my strength, I rose to my feet and immediately grabbed the gun tackers and shot the last drone down. I was completely exhausted by the second one.

Morrison

She passed the fourth test. Good (Y/N). You're learning very quickly.

Y/N

After passing the drones I followed the track that leads to the third trap. (Or maybe the track's a trap). Red arrows glowed as they lead direction to a wide part of the watchpoint. I still have the gun tackers, just in case I might need them. I continued walking to the center which has an Overwatch sign. Silence swept over the area as the cold wind tries to embrace me. Yet my jacket is very thick so no need to worry.

Then I heard sounds of machines rumbling to life. I was alarmed by a sudden. I turned to all directions and I've found my fifth and final test. An omnic robot. It's size was just like mine and fit for me to clash into. It started to march towards me and I get a little bit intimidated by the approach. There were no weapons or items of choice to choose at so I only have the gun tackers and my titanium knife. You can do this. I gave myself some enlightenment before embracing my fate. Or was it?

The robot started to sprint towards me and I dodged it. I pulled the tackers' triggers and hit the robot, but it seemed no match for its armor. I tried to find some of its weak spots as I examined it. Then it made a series of attacks and I dodged again, draining every part of my strength. It made some reflexes in its right arm and I saw its weak spot; the arm and the hand were connected by wires so I hit it. The wires crackled and the omnic's right arm had no use. Next I targeted the left. It did the same. Now its harmless, so I lunged forward and used my knife and stabbed its rectangular head. I fully recognized it was a young bastion.

At last my training is done. I sighed in victory as I passed every single test. The sun started to rise. It's 5:32 according to my watch. Then I heard an opening through the left.

A gate far in the left opened. And I can barely see the figure that came out. I ran to him quickly.

"Very well." He said with his plain expression, a flat smile formed in his lips and his arms crossed. I think he didn't seemed delighted by the result. Maybe I expected too much.

"Aren't you congratulating me, sir?" I raised my tone a bit at the sudden gesture. "Anyway that was very easy. Am I qualified?" I smirked abruptly.

"You just passed the warm-up kid. You had a far, long journey." Wait? A warm-up?He turned back than paced towards where he came from. Then I suddenly reacted. The faculty & staff then came out of the gate, back into busy and normal lives.

"So all of that....was a warm-up? Hey! Hey, answer me mister." I followed him. Many questions were lingered in my mind, unanswered. I walked fast, passing him and kept a distance while walking backwards.

"You're lying." I raised my tone a bit.

"No I'm not. Actually your real training begins in 3 days so you might get prepared. That warm-up was just very easy. I see that you're very determined to get to that soldier enhancement program. Don't worry, I keep my promise." He said casually as he mentioned all the words in one sentence. I stopped in my tracks as he ran towards the scrambling crowd of army blue. He really knows what he's doing. I have nothing to do about it. I'll just wait.

Then he gestured back with a slight frown.

"Aren't you eating for breakfast?" He shouted at me, his distance a couple of meters as the crowd went wild.

Then I chuckled. Right. I gave all my consciousness to this warm-up that I have no idea on what the real world does.

"Coming!" I replied back, as I jogged towards him.
