A Shadow's Reincarnation

On a certain train sat a certain boy, with average looks. He had his eyes closed as he dozed off while hugging his bag. Earphones were plugged into his ears, silently listening to the music. Just then, the heavy bass music he was listening to suddenly became heavenly zither music that contained the truths of the Heavenly Dao. The boy’s heartbeat followed the loose rhythm of the heavenly tune for a straight minute before having been jolted awake. When the boy's eyelids fluttered open, it was as if the people on the train heard angels weeping and devils laughing. The Heavens shook in fear whereas the Underworld rumbled with joy. As for this boy’s origin, not even the gods & devils dare find out. _____________________________________ Disclaimers: - Ai pic till I can afford to commission an artist. - This is the 2nd continuation of my Magic Martial World series. - It's paused until I finish my diploma this June 2024. _____________________________________ Discord: https://discord.gg/R7nmUAqm

Magic Spirits?

"Wait a minute, I think you're misunderstanding something here—" Carla tried to defend herself but Blake continued on mercilessly.

"Hold on, is my hearing right?? Is a pampered girl from my brother's clan asking me whether I'm misunderstanding something??" Blake sarcastically retorted. "And what? You're only a Martial Officer. People your age back then have already become Martial Lieutenants and Martial Majors already, waste!"

Carla was fuming with rage at this point but was helpless at defending her stance. Everything said by Blake was fairly spot on besides the part where she doesn't have a martial soul. In fact, she didn't even know what a martial soul looked like. Probably only the old men and women within her clan knew what Martial Souls were since they lived before the current Magic Martial Reversion Era.

"Oh, cat got your tongue now? Martial cultivators dominated us magicians for thousands of years because of their powerful Martial Souls. But without a martial soul, magicians with their Magic Spirits can dominate the latter with ease."

"Magic Spirits? What's that?" Carla raised her hand and asked.

"Pa!" The idiocy of this girl has left Blake dumbfounded till he had to smack himself to see whether this was a dream or not. The searing hot pain on his left cheek proved to him that he was indeed not dreaming.

But on to the bigger question, was this girl an illegitimate daughter of someone from the main branch and therefore was oblivious to martial souls and magic spirits, or was she a legit princess of the royal clan but something happened to the world after he died and that martial souls and magic spirits ceased to exist now?

Both were possibilities that could've happened since Blake wasn't around during those times. Hand in chin, Blake began calculating the possibilities of the two likely scenarios since both had a high chance of happening. During his pondering, Carla decided to use this time to pay her respects to the ancient tombstone.

Several moments later, Carla was done paying her respects to the tombstone whereas Blake was still doing calculations in his mind. Both scenarios have already reached 45% while the remaining 10% was on the girl being lazy.

Another few moments later, Blake stopped calculating since both scenarios have reached 50% and that calculating further would be meaningless. But since it's a stalemate, Blake was stumped.

"You said you didn't know what Magic Spirits were, right?" Blake moved his gaze towards Carla and asked.

"Oh, finally willing to listen to me?" When finally being paid attention to, Carla acted smugly.

"Just answer the damn question!" Blake however grew impatient and glared coldly at the girl. It seemed as though winter had arrived for Carla as she couldn't stop shivering afterwards.

"Yes, yes sir!" Carla immediately replied out of fear. She suddenly realized that the young man in front of her was a master when she looked at his eyes. Despite being a martial cultivator, she was well versed in various magic arts since she was a bookworm when she was little.

When their gaze connected, she instinctively felt fear as she recognized the Intermediate level Magic King grade ice magic art - Boreas' Arrival. One needed to be at Magic King realm and above to use this soul freezing skill.

"Calling me Sir makes me sound old, and I'm clearly younger than you so…just call me Blake instead." Blake corrected her.

"Yes S–, Young master Blake." Carla nodded, albeit slightly confused. The young man in front of her was at least a Magic King yet she had never seen or heard about him before.

Since she could remember, Magic Elders and Kings were famous existences since cultivating martial qi to mana was considered a waste of time and effort for most of the world. Nonetheless, she felt that her luck was incredibly high since the master in front of her did not mind her rude behavior earlier.

"Magic Spirits are similar to Martial Souls. Martial Souls come in the form of beasts, tools and plants whereas Magic Spirits does exactly the same thing, but only reaches perfection after reaching a certain realm. Magic Spirits have come in the form of legendary tools, mythical beings and heavenly plants. That meant that people had Excalibur & King Arthur as their Magic Spirits at one point."

"Okay….? I still don't know what Magic Spirits and Martial Souls are but I think I got the gist of it, I think." Carla nodded her head in confusion.

"Haiz, in short…Magic Spirits and Martial Souls were the core reasons why everybody pursued cultivation back then. Although Martial Souls made martial cultivators superior under Martial Angel realm, Magic Spirits began to shine when magic cultivators or magicians reached Magic Saint realm. I'm certain that the history subject you studied in school back then all stated that the top experts of the world have all been Magic Saints and not Martial Angels." Blake's cold gaze turned gentler as he stared at his own grave, reminiscing about his past glory.

Moments later, Blake turned towards Carla and asked, "Do your elders know anything about the disappearance of the Martial Souls and Magic Spirits?"

"Not by much, no." Carla shook her head to his dismay. "But I think my clan still has ancestors from the previous generation. Maybe they know a thing or two about the sudden disappearance."

"Oh? People from the previous generation still alive? That settles it, I'm visiting those brats then. See ya." Blake waved goodbye at Carla before opening a hole in space and stepped through it.

Oh damn, I'm finally entering the final stretch of my stockpile. After another 6 chaps after this one, I'm going to pause ASR for a while to work on MMW.

Maybe in these last few chaps, WN will send me a contract offer...Pft, nah!
