Proficiency System

When Chris woke up, it was already 5pm which means he had slept for over 6 hours. The first thing he did when he woke up like everyone else would do was to check his phone. And unsurprisingly, he saw his friends messaging him.

***

Kyrie: Why didn't you attend school earlier? Did something wrong happen?

Nachtan: Hey bro! Are you okay?

Eva: The teacher said you only need to bring a letter with your parents' signature tomorrow. You're attending tomorrow, right?

Roda: Chris are you okay? Your mother said you were screaming earlier at noon.

Nachtan: You okay?

Omaik: Bro, did something happen?

While some of his not-so-close friends were mentioning him at the group chat for their class.

Ritzel: @Chris Emerson, please provide an excuse letter with your parents' signature tomorrow. Get well soon.

Adrian: Wait, did something happen to him?

Roda: Yes. His mother said that he was not feeling well yesterday. And just this noon, he was screaming in pain. The cause is unknown though since he does not want to be sent to the hospital.

Rex: Wait, really? I remember him not even flinching when I accidentally wounded his arm. How painful would it be if he was screaming?

Catherine: You wounded him? How did you even do it accidentally?

Lloyd: Oh, I was also there. Rex was holding a scissor when he stumbled towards Chris. Luckily Chris dodged and was only scraped by the scissor.

Allan: It was Paulo's fault when he trips Rex with his legs.

Paulo: I didn't know that something like that would happen okay?! I was just pranking Rex.

Juliana: Guys, your discussion strayed off a bit. By the way, get well soon Chris.

Everyone: +1

Reading their messages, Chris laughed a bit as he just realized now how he had missed this. How he had missed his high school life, where what he had just to worry about is what to eat at lunch or what game to play.

Too bad that he had wasted too much time and wasted his three years in high school without even learning a thing. And when he got into college, he was struggling hard and was only able to graduate because he was always in the library. Which is also one of the things he had missed in his previous life.

He replied to his friends one by one and told them that he will be present tomorrow.

After that, he began to write his study plan for his current subjects, from that class schedule he had received from his homeroom teacher.

English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Music & Arts, History, and Philosophy.

As he will have Maths and English tomorrow, he took out the textbook for these two subjects and began to study in advance. This is to also help him remember the things he had learned.

But as he began to read, a mechanical voice suddenly sounded inside his head.

When he heard the voice inside his head, Chris was shocked and then when he realizes what it meant. Joy immediately surfaced on his face as he began pinching himself just to make sure he is not dreaming.

His heart was beating so fast as he felt that his life for the first time would not be so ordinary anymore. What more, with a system he will be able to live a comfortable life and provide peace to his hardworking parents.

Just thinking about its Chris continued reading.

Although it was not too fast, his proficiency in mathematics soon reaches 100, and its change from Mathematics to Mathematics (Basic). As it reached 20 in proficiency, he had to search the internet just to increase it. And as soon as it reaches 100 in proficiency became Mathematics (Basic), the textbook on his hands suddenly felt like a nursery book. Although it sounds like an exaggeration, the textbook to him had really become so simple.

Chris had no way of knowing why it is only called Basic, but he is certain that the standards of the system are definitely high. As the Mathematics (Basic) can already contend with a college-level professor's knowledge. Then how about the levels next to Basic?

Intermediate? Advance? Chris just guessed but is usually follows this grading. What he is not sure is what is its limit?

Chris did not want to think much more about it, as the system is not sentient, it cannot answer his questions. He can only work it out by himself so he put down the mathematics textbook and began reading the English textbook next.

English advance so he took Music & Arts next. And then Science, History, and Philosophy. After he was done reading all his textbooks, it was already 8 pm. It was only at this time did Chris remembered what all systems should have.

In the case of Music & Arts, as it is separated into two skills, Music (Basic) and Arts (Basic). Music (Basic) allows him to compose any song he could think of no matter the genre, play any instrument that exists, and being capable of spotting any flaws in a song. While the Arts (Basic) basically makes him the God of Art, as he can practically do any kind of art, know the different techniques involving them. He can casually create a masterpiece the world has never seen. And this is all just the basic skill, how terrifying would it be if it were to advance.

"Status!" He shouted excitedly and immediately covered his mouth. Looking at the door of his room and trying to hear if his mother heard him. After a while, he was not scolded only then did he let out a sigh of relief and shifted his focus to the floating holographic screen in front of him.

Name: Chris Emerson

Basic Skills: Mathematics, English, Science, Music, Arts, History, Philosophy

Although when he looks at it, it looks so simple. Chris was still happy as it was a holographic screen projected by the system. And only he was the one able to see it while others won't.

Chris began searching on the internet and reading them, the first things that he read are Cooking, Singing, Writing, and some other things that he had always wanted to learn but had not time and talent to do.

He stopped when his stomach began to protest, only then did he realized that he had not eaten anything since this morning. Upon this realization, the protest of his stomach increased as he stood up and went downstairs.

When he reaches the kitchen, he saw his mother sitting there while talking with his father.

"Mom." He called out to her as she turns her head towards him and immediately stood up.

His mother approached him as she caresses his face and looks at his face, seeing that he looks fine, she sighed in relief. She then smiled at him and asked, "You must be hungry, right?"

Chris nodded his head as this was really the case.

"You haven't eaten anything since this morning, your father brought something from the restaurant next door. I prepare it for you." His mother then went to prepare as he sat beside his father.

"How are you feeling now bud? Think you can go to school tomorrow?" His father asked he looked at him.

Chris nodded, "Yes dad. I've rested enough and I don't think it will come back again."

What he meant by "will come back" was the pain he was feeling as that was just the side effect of the system pouring years of memories into his head. Now that he has his previous life and his predecessor's memories, there will be no more painful experience than that one.

Chris just never knew he had just set up a flag by himself.

His father nodded and continued to look at the files in front of him. Chris really didn't mind his father's attitude as he knew early on that his father rarely shows how he truly feels on the surface. But he knows for sure is that he cares about him and his mother. That's why he is always working hard to give them a good life.

"There you go son, eat a lot. There's still more." His mother came back holding a large plate filled with food, slightly forming a mountain.

Seeing this, Chris's mouth twitched a bit. He may have not eaten anything the whole day, but that doesn't mean he has to eat food a week's worth.

'Just how much did dad bought?' Chris thought.

Needs more editing.
