After helping her clean up, the nurse sat her down on the small stool in front of the mirror and very gently started to comb her hair. Shirley looked at her reflection and grimaced.

'Does it hurt? I am sorry.' The nurse apologized.

'No, no, I just don't like what I see in the mirror.'

'What do you see?' the nurse asked sincerely.

'What is your name?' she asked back.

'You can call me, Angie.' She smiled warmly at Shirley.

'Thank you, Angie, for taking care of me.' Shirley sighed and then continued distractedly. 'I see a pale face, huge eyes, too big for such a thin face. They lack any luster, spark; whatever that might be. I see an empty shell that cannot be anything.' Shirley finished on a sad note. She could feel herself spiraling down, falling back into the abyss.
