59 Conflicted Emotions

Shirley could not look in his eyes any longer and continue to lie. She did not want to see anything in those orbs that would make her blurt out what she was holding back. So she looked at his chest and said in a small voice.

'Please Drake, just leave my way. I… I don't want to hurt you. I am sorry that even though I say that my actions somehow do otherwise. I really am sorry.'

Drake heard her loud and clear and something in her voice stirred turbulence of emotions inside him. He did not know what it was, sadness or pain that made him move. The path in front of her cleared and she left to join others for lunch. Drake stood there with his feelings all over the place.

What is it that he did not understand? Where it went wrong?
