5 A Grave for her Shattered Dreams

Why not just leave?

She could do that. There was nothing left in this place that was stopping her, not anymore. She was free. She looked at the gift box that was on the table. It contained two tickets to Greece, her surprise gift for him.

She has won them at the lottery when she went shopping for groceries this month. She was their 99999th customer and that was her prize. Two tickets to Greece, fifteen day's stay at a luxurious hotel along with one day cruise. All of it was paid for and they did not have to spend a single penny for this. She had thought that they would have a great time on this trip. It would boost their relationship. She has felt a change in his behavior in the past few months and thought this would be a good time to have a break.

Now that box was laughing at her, taunting her for dreaming those pipe dreams.

But the same box could also be her salvation. She has already packed her bags for the trip as it was due tomorrow. She does not have to worry about her job either. Last week, she has got the promotion that she was working her ass off, along with a choice to move to their other branch.

Of course, she was going to deny the other offer. She did not want to leave him.

She was on cloud nine and wanted to tell Aaron when he returned from his trip. Then this lottery has made her believe that everything will be good again. This trip, it would make things a bit smoother for them. She has been so happy, but now, all for naught.

She decided that she would accept the second offer too. Her boss has given her two weeks' time to decide on that and if she accepts the offer she need not join right now. Their other branch was going through some changes and once done they would contact her. It may take some time, a minimum of two weeks and a maximum of a month. The salary was obviously higher than now and if she accepted the transfer option she would get a bonus as she won't be going to the office for some time.

The additional bonus was thrown by her boss as a gauntlet to lure her in. He has always praised her for her achievements and swelled with pride like she was his own daughter. She also loved him dearly so she has told him that she would think seriously and then will give her a reply. He had beamed at her and then told her to take the rest of the day off to prepare for her anniversary.

She never thought that this would turn out to be such a disaster

All those dreams that she had dreamt of, now lay shattered at her feet. She could not do anything to salvage them. Now that they had turned into dust, she would bury them properly.
