25 A Friend, for Eternity

Shirley parted ways with Sam only when she agreed to meet her bright and early next morning sharp at 9 o'clock at the hotel's entrance. Since they did not share the same hotel, Sam had argued to change her hotel and move in hers. Shirley denied and told her to not worry much. She did not want to trouble her to do that and told Sam that she would feel bad if she does that.

The hotel where Sam was currently staying in was in collaboration with her airlines and gave max discounts to the employees. It would not be fair for her to change the hotel just because she was going through some emotional turmoil. Money is not grown on trees and treating it like water is not right. She knows that her friend earns well but that does not mean she would let her waste it like that. So she has stood firm on her decision and finally, Sam has changed her mind.

But this change came on a condition. She has to go with her without asking any questions or complaints. Shirley had this nagging feeling that this so-called discussion to change hotels initiated by Sam was only because she could agree to this demand. She thinks that all of this might have been the plan of Sara and Sam from the very beginning. Sara was not here but now she has got an accomplice in her crimes and she really could do anything she wants.

Plus, that is so like her Sara.

Even if she is not here with her she has easily found a way to make her feel better. Shirley thought that maybe this meeting of her with Sam might be arranged by her friend and not fate. But then she chided herself for thinking that ridiculous thought, even though she knows her friend is capable of doing that. And this was really the first time that they talked, she was sure.

She is her best friend and knows all of her friends.

Shirley decided to not think about it and looked at the now-empty dishes on the trolley. She could still taste the sweetness of the wine. She has decided to have dinner in her room rather than going to the hall. After taking a long hot shower, her dinner has arrived on time. She has swiped through the phone looking at the pictures of her and Sam and eaten her food in solace.

Involuntarily, she has smiled at the ridiculous poses Sam has made just to make her laugh. And her food has vanished in no time between her pictures and thoughts. Her wine glass was now near empty and she looked at the bottle placed in the ice bucket. Decisively, she opened it again and filled another glass. Putting it on the table she pushed the trolley out the room before she changed her mind.

She did not want to drink more than necessary and wake up with a hangover. Her tolerance to any kind of alcohol is very poor and that one glass with her food was enough to lighten her nerves and make her feel free. Coming back in, she went by the table and picked up the glass. She looked at the sky and found that it was clouded and no stars could be seen. But oddly enough the moon was brightly lit casting everything underneath in its milky hue.

Taking a sip she sat on the chair and then placed the glass on the table. Picking up the feather, she dipped it in the inkpot and began to give her thoughts new shape.

On a cloudy night, when no stars could be seen

You came like a moon to warn off the darkness

When nobody was in sight and tremors is all I could only feel

Your thoughts rescued me from fright and madness

No matter where I go, to recuperate or to flee

You are with me, you are with me

One would think that I might be crazy

To grasp someone like the last strand of sanity

Fool they are for thinking so weak

You are not someone who would leave me midstream

A friend would never do that and you are my best

We will be together for eternity…
