17 A werewolf?

Lucy's POV

The eerie silence made my ears ring! I felt a bit dizzy but Kenneth's warm hand held me in place. My anxiety level short up. I didn't know what to make of the King's silence. I looked at Kenneth with a fallen face but his eyes were only trained on his father, the King. "Welcome to our Kingdom Lucy. Are you the Fosters from the Northern Kingdom?" he asked and a relief washed over me. "No your majesty, I'm from the South." I responded. He shook his head and told Kenneth to come see him in his chambers in ten minutes and he left.

I wondered where the Queen was and Kenneth's siblings. I was exhausted and overwhelmed, both by the journey and the heavy burden of anxiety I was carrying. I just wanted to rest and get myself together. "Marco, take Lucy's luggage to one of the guest rooms on the fourth floor." Kenneth said as he quietly took me by my hand and led me inside the huge castle. The entrance was a big hall, the interior was amazing and the wallpaper screamed royalty. My eyes roamed around to take in the beauty that was before me.

Kenneth was very quiet and it got me worried. I squeezed his hand and he gave me a small tired smile. I knew he was worried as much as I was. He took me into an elevator which took us to the guest room. The room was smart and classy. The walls were peachy in color which brightened my mood. Though my favorite color is lime and royal blue, peach and baby yellow are my second best. The room was large with two other doors which I assumed were the walk in closet and the bathroom. My bags were already in the room and there were two female servants trying to unpack my stuff.

After they bowed to us, I asked them to leave I would do the unpacking myself. If there is anything that will take me forever to get used to, it will be having servants do stuff I can easily do. My aunt who I call mom, made sure I was provided with everything I needed, there was a maid to assist with some chores but my aunt insisted that I be taught to do the basic stuff for myself such as making up my bed, sweeping, tidying up, cooking and washing and ironing my own clothes. I'm grateful to her for teaching me the life skills.

Kenneth turned to me after the ladies left. "Hey! I'm sorry about the awkwardness that happened outside. Don't worry, they will come around. My parents are very welcoming people. I have to go and see them, will you be okay here?" he asked. I nodded my head. "I'll be okay babe. Don't worry about me. I'll just take a shower and unpack, then rest a bit. Take your time with your family. I'm certain that they missed you a lot." I assured him. "Okay babe, I'll see you later. I'll send someone to bring you some food. Is that okay with you, I thought you might be hungry." He said.

I thanked him for his consideration and kissed him as he left me to my new room, which I'll be occupying for the next two weeks. That is if I get to stay for that long. I unpacked my stuff, and took a hot shower, letting the water fall down over my muscles massaging them. I took longer than usual because I really needed that. Getting out of the bathroom, I saw a tray with some food by the table. I went into the closet and changed into a casual dress that went up to my knees. I devoured the food, I had been really famished. Not knowing what to do, I took the tray and went out. I didn't know what floor the kitchen was at but I thought that it would be on the ground floor. ' If it were to be upstairs, that would be weird. Who would be running up and down the stairs with hot food? Or how does one escape if it's on fire?' That convinced me that the kitchen would definitely be on the ground floor.

I used the stairs rather than the elevator because I thought it would be some form of exercise for me. I slowly descended the staircase holding the tray tightly. Getting downstairs, I looked around for a sign that would show me where the kitchen was. I sighed as I realized, there wasn't anyone on sight, and the doors weren't labeled. 'It's going to be tougher than I thought to locate a kitchen in this massive castle. What do I do?' I wished Kenneth was available to give me a tour. I started off by checking each room. I would knock first before I opened it. I was getting frustrated because the first door had been an office, the second looked like a dining room, and I actually hoped that the third would definitely be a kitchen because dining rooms are usually attached to the kitchen. I sighed as I realized that it wasn't a kitchen, then the fourth was a laundry room. It was huge. I heard muffled voices as I stepped into it.

Just as I was about calling out for help I heard; "Desiree, I'm shocked! Can you believe that after Prince Kenneth asked me to take food for his girlfriend, getting there I found out she is a human?" the voice explained. I was puzzled. 'Of course yes I am human. Were you expecting an angel? Pfft!' I huffed. "What? A human? Is she his real mate or something? Because the only reason he would choose a human over his kind would be because he is mated to her by fate. The other woman, I suppose the one called Desiree responded.

A panic flushed my face. 'His kind? What are these women talking about? Is Kenneth some sort of an angel or something? Why would they talk of mates, fate, human and his kind?' all sorts of questions rallied around my head. Where did I hear these words from? Oh my gosh! 'Twilight!' that's the series I heard of such words being thrown around. Is Kenneth maybe a werewolf? But how? I thought that is just fiction. They aren't real. My heart bit so loudly as I tried to put down the tray so gently and get out of there. I needed some fresh air before I suffocated.

As I tiptoed to the door I heard the other one say, "Do u smell that scent, what if the human is here and just heard us gossip about her?" The other lady said, "yeah I can smell it. I think she is here or she was here." I bolted out of the door and ran towards the main door. I passed some guys that looked like the guards and turned left. I sprinted on a foot path that sort of led to the back of the castle and into the woods. I sat down under a tree wondering why I had to be bombarded with so much information in one day. Is Kenneth not really who I thought he was? Was this the other thing he said he is keeping from me? Is he a werewolf? Do they exist? While lost in my thoughts, I heard leaves rustling and a loud growl sounded. Looking towards the source my heart nearly stopped as I sat frozen into the spot, fear engulfing my whole body. 'A lion, so close to the castle?'
