1 ~Chapter 1~

Out of no where, right in the middle of you life, a fairytale pops up. There's no other choice but to follow it. Well, that's what happened to a high school girl named Katie. She had a crush on this boy by the name of Chance. All throughout her high school life, he never acknowledged her, or so she thought, which is where this story begins.

Katie and her friend Ruby were walking to their next class with both of their arms holding onto a group of binders and books held against their chests, when they both noticed Chance standing with his friends in a crooked circle around one of his friends' locker. Katie began to smile and glance at him every now and then.

"Ruby, he's never gonna notice me. You don't need to try." Katie replied to Ruby when Ruby started to shoulder-nudge her.

"Yes he will. You just have to stop being so shy." Ruby complained.

"Ruby, I have more things to focus on. High school is already stressful and I can't add more stress."

"Fine. But haven't you ever thought of what you guys could be? Like, if you guys started talking, talking would turn into friends, friends would turn into relationships.."Just then, Katie interrupted.

"First of all, if I was his friend, I wouldn't want to take the risk of losing him in a relationship AND losing our friendship too."

"Ya know, I read somewhere that the best relationships start as friendships. And, even if you do lose his and your friendship, wouldn't the aftermath be okay after a while?"

"Ruby..."

"I'm just saying. No risk, no reward. And if Chance can't see you as a girlfriend or even a friend, then maybe he's not good enough for you. There's PLENTY of other fish in the sea!"Ruby explained.

"But I like this fish!" Katie announced as they started laughing together. They noticed that Chance kept looking over at Katie and when they walked passed, all of a sudden, Chance said hi.

"Katie! Say HI!"Katie waited a second and stopped on the side of the hallway.

"Hi Chance."

"How are you today?"

"Good, an' you?"

"Good." Chance said. They stood there for a couple seconds until Katie broke the silence.

"Well, I gotta get to class, see ya around?"

"Yeah, uh, see ya around." Just then, Katie started to walk away.

"Bye!" Chance took the risk of waving. Katie turned around.

"Bye!" Katie waved back.
