9 Chapter 9 : Articuno!

Before long Gary, Mom and I found our spacious backyard. It had decorative trees, a long white fence around its perimeter, and off to the left we had a decent sized pool, as well as an outdoor hot tub!

You can tell by first glance s lot of money was put into this space. Moreover, in the center, it appeared to be a giant empty field of sorts. When I saw this I had my doubts, but it appeared big enough to be its own trainer battle field! After learning that Mom was a trainer herself, I think I managed to clear that doubt.

Maybe she took this spot have hidden battles away from the public eye? But if she said she retired as a Trainer, why hold onto this field? Perhaps she was expecting one of us to become a Trainer in her stead?

Not that I don't mind that of course. Becoming a Trainer is one of my main dreams since I received a chance to start a new life!

Gary also never took note of this field from the times we played around outside. From plain sight it just looks like your average grassy plain with lots of neatly cut shrubs, flowers and trees. The trees were mostly white spruce, a few scattered red maples, and some large oak trees.

We wouldn't be the Oak family if we didn't have at least one oak tree in our backyard, right? Haha!

Bad pun aside, one needed to have a good look to see this was a battle area for Pokemon, hidden away beneath the grass and the likes. It seems Gary didn't spot this either yet, so I decided to stay quiet. Besides, Mom was about to show us the one Pokemon she kept!

She probably travelled all over Kanto since she participated in one of the past Indigo Leagues, right? Grandpa has been telling us his stories to pass the time while at the lab, but I should probably get mom to recount her stories too!

After arriving here, Gary still had an excited look on his face.

"Come on, Mom! Show us the Pokemon you have already!"

"Haha, looks like someone's getting impatient. I will remind it's a bit early to show you two to him, but treat it as an early big 5 gift, okay?", Violet said once more, looking at Gary and I. We both nod our head to answer her.

"Good, come on out, Crystal!", Violet yelled out. I looked to see mom moving her hand into her pocket, only to grab a hold of a normal Pokeball. I then looked down and saw Vulpix's eyes glued on mom, with anticipation iin her eyes. Vulpix's tails were swinging around to show it.

Mom then tossed ball in the air. With a pop, a red light escaped from it. It was larger than your average red light beam, almost spreading as tall as the figure of a Charizard.

Not only that, the beam soon revealed two large wings of sorts, which folded over the rest of its body. It had a long blue crystal-like tail wing in its back, flowing freely. Its two wings were also blue. It had three feathery crowns on its head with a pale gray beak. The moment it unraveled its wings, a soft white fur body opened up. The rest of its body was surrounded by sky blue fur.

My mind kind of went numb seeing this Pokemon appear before us. The air started to get a bit chilly too. The Pokemon then swooped up and flapped its wings, soaring into the air. As it did, small crystals of white ice glittered around its sky near its wingtips. It made the Pokemon appear very gracefully, and it being graceful and calm was one of its key features.

After soaring above our house for a bit, Violet walked up to it, and the Pokemon descended, landing right in front of her, standing onto its hind legs. It parched its body straight, and extended its blue wings upward,.

"Schreee!", the large bird yelled out, letting out a graceful noise.

It then leaned in, and started to nuzzle against mom's face, revealing a content look. Violet winked her eye before letting out a laugh.

"Haha, it's good to see you again too, Crystal...Sorry if I've kept you in there. Have you been well?"

"Schree!", Crystal responded with another calming noise.

The second time that Crystal responded with this noise, it finally snapped me out of my daze. I saw Vulpix staring at Crystal with big wide eyes, and I could even feel she was currently being intimidated by it. Placing my hand over her head to calm her down, I looked at mom, still in great shock.

"Uhh, mom?", I asked her.

"Yes sweetie?"

"That's an Articuno isn't it?"

"Of course Crystal here is an Articuno. Isn't that right, Crystal?"

"Schree!", Crystal responded happily, nuzzling her beak against her once again.

"Why does mom even have an Articuno in the first place!? Just how!? That's one of the legendary Pokemon birds here in Kanto!"

"I know right? Call it a fortuitous encounter. I won't go into the details, just know that Crystal here is the one partner I decided to have stay with me, mostly just in case things decide to go south here in Pallet Town. He isn't the only Articuno out there either you know."

"Wait, there are more Articuno out there? Does this mean even I have chance of getting one myself in the future?"

"If you're lucky enough to encounter, one, yes. Many legendary Pokemon have their own secret nests. But there are also legendaries that only exist once, like the creation trio. If you want to find out which ones are like that Dad probably has some notes in the lab."

"I see, thank you for telling me this, mom."

"Don't sweat it, Itsuki. You're my son, haha! Besides, I've even come across a rumor from a friend of mine who is living in the Galar region right now."

"Galar? Isn't that one of the more recent regions that was discovered?"

"Yes. Turns out that place has its own unique history like we do, especially when it comes to ruins. My friend said he found some migration patterns on a dense land of ice to the south of the mainland he lives at. Among those patterns belong to a trail of birds. And their markings point very closely to that of the bird trio here."

"Wait, bird markings that point toward the legendary bird trio here in Kanto? Is it possible they actually migrated to Galar?", I asked. Hearing mom talk about this, she is probably referring to the Galarian bird trio.

Some Pokemon do actually migrate to other regions. And over time they create regional variants! That's how Alolan Vulpix came to be! There is actually a Galarian Articuno too!

"Yes. At least some, anyway. It's a similar situation to your Vulpix here. Speaking of which, is the cutie doing alright? It appears to be scared of Crystal."

Looking down, I see Vulpix not moving, just staring right at Crystal. Though outwardly it didn't show anything, I could feel it was somewhat scared. That's why I placed my hand on her head.

"Say Vulpix, are you doing alright? Do you want to return to your ball?", I asked her.

"Vulpix!", Vulpix immediately denied me.

"Are you sure?"

After hearing that, Vulpix actually escaped from my arms, jumping directly on them. It turned around to look at ne in the eyes. The intimidation it felt from Articuno I felt was washed away, replacing that with a new feeling of determination.

"Vul!", Vulpix yelled out in determination .

I blinked at Vulpix for a good second, learning what Vulpix wants to do. I then turned around toward and spoke out to her.

"Uhh, mom, I think Vulpix wants to battle Crystal."

After saying that, I saw mom's eyes become very serious. She then right out rejected me.

"Absolutely not! Besides, Itsuki you're still just a four year old kid! People don't usually even think about battling until they reach the final year in their school course!", Violet yelled out, rejecting me.

However, at this time, before I could even speak out once more, we were suddenly interrupted by a familiar voice.

"Hoho, I had a feeling this would happen. What's the harm in having my boy do a battle? He's proven to be a genius at such a young age, Violet. I'd be very interested in watching it!", a familiar, aged voice suddenly said, disrupting us.

"And I can be the official to oversee this battle. So this is the promising kid you spoke about with me over the phone that last time, huh?", another firm voice said.

"Don't you two forget about me! Wow! Itsuki you're already growing up. Last time I saw you you were just a wee pebble. I know I'm not on Alola right now, but seeing as you came from there, Alola to you, young Itsuki!", a third easy-going voice replied to the two.

Three figures suddenly appeared from the house, entering our back yard. The first one was none other than Professor Oak. Seeing the other two, my jaw dropped open in shock once more, as we turned around to see the three. Even Gary had shock written all over his face.

The second figure was tan, letting his upper body be exposed by wearing nothing but an open lab coat. He wore gray pants and green strapped shoes that appeared similar to sandals. He wore glasses that had a green frame and a white hat that had a rainbow on it. He even had a shaved goatee. This was Professor Kukui from Alola, the same professor that talked about me in the card Professor Oak read when I first arrived at his doorstep!

As for the third figure, he was the most shocking one of the three. He appeared to be a young adult still, but I recognized that red hair and cape from anywhere. He was the current champion of Kanto, Lance, the dragon trainer!

It appears the gathering has already started to begin despite Summer Camp being six months away!

You guys can keep guessing MC's starter. Squirtle or Litten? Hehehe.

Still a little bit till summer camp starts. I decided to bring out mc's first battle now! An OP newborn Alolan Vulpix vs a veteran Articuno, who do you think will win? (Not a serious question, or is it?~. Here in my fanfic, levels are just flavor text, they don't matter in the course of battling like in the anime)

Don't forget to drop those power stones and leave comments below! We climbed in the ranks last week, can we try reaching 500 power stones this week?
