11 Chapter 10

Lan Zhuo swiftly opened the door to the back passenger seat of his maybach. He guided her in and he got in as well.

Xiulan was shocked by his actions and was frozen stiff. She came to her senses only after the car's door was shut. She looked at him intently, trying to guess what he was doing.

Lan Zhuo Signaled to his driver to start driving. There was silence in the car. Xiulan's mind was filled with questions. She steeled her resolve and said "Mr. Lan Zhuo, will you make a deal with me?" Lan Zhou looked at her and raised his brow questioningly. She took it as a green signal and said "If I am guessing correctly, your father and old Chairman Lan are siblings so you and Lan Jingfeng are cousins by birth. My other guess is that you have an animosity towards your uncle's family. But that's not the main point here. Since Lan Jingfeng has his sights set on me, you can use me as a bait to lure him out of his stronghold no?"

Lan Zhuo's amusement grew as he listened to her words. He was not surprised when she guessed his relationship with his uncle's family as his father's face was way too similar to his uncle. They may even pass off as twins. He asked "What do you want in return?"

Xiulan looked at his face and said seriously "I want a stable job in your company, FeiYi Corps. and I want you to assure the safety of me and my friend Meng Xin. She is literally the only person I am friendly with here in S city. Oh and her family of course.... On and now your parents as well."

Lan Zhuo silently assessed her. He pretended to think about it. He was continuously observing her reactions. Xiulan was breaking out in cold sweat. She knew that he didn't need to use her in anyway. He would have plenty of plans to use against his uncle's family. But she was silently hoping, praying that he agrees to what she said. She wiped her sweaty palms and took deep breaths as she tried to calm down.

Lan Zhuo felt that he had had enough amusement. He casually said "Okay." Xiulan turned to look at him, disbelief clear in her eyes. He smirked to himself and said out loud "A job at my company and protection to you and your friend's family right? I agree to your deal."

Xiulan was very happy. She looked at him with a watery smile and said "Thank you" because she knew. She knew that he would gain nothing by this agreement but still chose to help her. She sat there silently, looking outside the window.

She realised that they were heading towards the north of the city. She looked at Lan Zhuo and asked "Where are we going?" confusion evident in her eyes. Lan Zhuo replied "Didn't you say that you wanted me to assure your safety? We're doing just that and the first thing we're doing is to change your residence. You will be shifting to the apartment complex I own in the north of the city. You are shifting to the flat below my penthouse. That way, it's easy for me to keep an eye on you. Regarding the job, You can report to my company as my personal assistant next week, on Monday. You've worked as the Chairman's PA previously didn't you? So it shouldn't be a hassle. I will have a few files delivered to you later this evening, read through them and do your own in-depth research about the company. Rest of the things will be briefed to you when you report to work. The pay and bonuses will depend on your performance for the entire month. Anything else you want to know?"

Xiulan thought for a moment and shook her head saying no. She told him that she has agreed to his arrangements. She turned to look outside the window again with a soft smile on her face.
