1 The room

"BANG" my wet cold body hit the floor with full force

nocking me almost unconscious, goosebumps formed across my shoulders down to my legs, quivering ,I tried to move my body but the pain made me grind my teeth to the point were they were close to shattering or at least that's what my imagination led me to believe. Two. No three men in black tailed one another out of the room slamming the door with a hard thud making the smooth marble like floor beneath me tremble.

My eyes opened steadily trying to make out my surroundings With what little knowledge I had about my current setting, I stood to my feet blenching as I remember the current condition of my body, it felt like I had been kicked in the ribs with a nine inch boot made out of knifes. A hospital maybe?, that was my first guess as I try to put pieces together of the room I was in, a bed with white sheets so thin they were transparent , a wheelchair ,with a light bluish appearance sitting in the corner on the right side of the room next to a window with red tint covering every inch.

The colossal red door opened gradually producing a small creaking sound that grew louder the wider it opened. My hands quivered and my heart palpitated through the long white gown I was wearing , I squatted down putting my face into my knees hugging myself, the gentle click indicating that the individual entering the room did not come to do harm. tulips and

roses filled my nostrils as the clacking of wedged shoes came closer until it stopped, glimpsing over my slightly scrapped knees I got a full view of the woman kneeling before me.

Her smile was warmer than the son shinning bright in the light blue sky in august, and her eyes greener than freshly cut grass in the spring, her hair was pulled into a perfect sleek low bun " hello there I'm Dr. Katherine but you can always call me Kathy if that makes you feel comfortable" I never said a word to her, the reality no matter how nice she was trying to be, in the end we were strangers to one another.

She visited me every day for a total of three weeks asking me question on what I knew in life or what I liked to do, but I just kept quiet thinking she would leave me alone. They would slide a trey under the door enough to hold four items which was the same thing every day, a triangular shaped sandwich with turkey, cheese, lettuce, and tomato, over to the right there was grape juice which I never drink due to the fact that I hated grapes. Below that was a single tangerine and to the left was a plastic spoon.

During my next session with Kathy I decided to ask her questions about her life and to my surprisal she oblige "why am I here?" clearing her throat and pulling her honey blond hair behind her ear she whispered "because you have a gift "I moved my body, my feet dangling from the

rectangular bed that had the same consistency as the floor " do you have children?" hearing silence I turned my body looking in her direction, her shoulders slumped and her jaws tighten, tears formed on the edge of her bottom lid whipping it away before even I could catch it fall," she would have been about your age by now" I deplored my actions getting putting both feet on the floor landing on the black socks with something rubbery on the bottom to keep me from slipping.

" I'm sorry I didn't know" I walked around the bed sitting in front of the red chair that she held herself in. smoothing her clothes down she sniffled and gave me that bright smile that made me hate it here a little less.

"don't be sorry you were curious" I grinned at her rubbing the back of her smooth hand that felt like an ice sickle " she loved to play the piano" I didn't get the courage to asked how she died simply out of respect, " I never was really good at anything" last year I was sophomore , my parents put me in a private school that felt pretty much the same as an average school except for parties and friends , my mom always said if they don't know you they won't hurt you.

I only remember the before and not the after when it come to my parents and my old life, I don't recall when I got here or even how, but one

thing I know for certain is that I don't know where they are. My thoughts concluded when a I felt a small thumb slide across my knuckles, "what's your name?" throughout all the sessions we've had this is the first question she's asked that wasn't on a clip board "Dawn"

Staring into her eyes my head started pounding like someone was gripping my head and squeezing as hard as they can, I fell to the floor hearing ringing in my ear as I saw Kathy lips move and worry on her pale face.

I could hear voices echo "dawn, dawn this way" I could barely make out the face that called out to me. A woman long curly black hair running, pulling me alongside her, I don't know what we were running from or were we were going but the instinct to keep moving was the only thing keeping us alive. "wake up, WAKE UP!

My eyes shot open waking to see a figure standing next to my bed , I gasp trying to scoot in the opposite direction only to see another one with the same height as the first, I started to scream but a hand was placed over my mouth muffling me, light started peering through the window, the shadow on the right moved swiftly towards the glass peeling the red tint.

I covered my eyes as the golden yellow rays filled the room and for the first time in a month, I felt at ease

Twins, a boy and a girl , around my age or a bit older , now on the same side , eyes as blue as the pacific, you could actually tell the difference between them if you look hard enough the boy had a birth mark shaped like the sun under his right chin and the girl had the moon on her left but they both had curly sandy red hair.

"we're sorry for scaring you we just wanted to make sure you were ok, we heard you.... Well yesterday" I sat on my knees sighing " thank you" we were in silence for a few seconds hearing the humming bird in the nest next to the window " what are your names ?" they beamed sitting next to me on the bed " I'm river " the girl tucked a curl behind her ear, the boy dusted his pant off pausing to reply " I'm rider

" Dawn , nice to meet you " I got up to look out of the window , the grass had recently been trimmed and from this side it looks like an actual hospital except for something that didn't quite feel right " why is there a gate ?" river appeared at my side wrapping an arm around my shoulder hells gate" I squinted looking down at the oversized gate "should I ask?" rider at my other side pointed "because that's where you'll be going if you try to escape "I gulp contemplating my next question" how long have you been here?" looking down they hesitated "a year "my heart dropped to

my stomach, a whole year I already been in here a month and I can't take it.

I wanted to sob and drop to the floor, but I couldn't not in front of people I just met five minutes ago.

It hurts to feel like this is all your life is worth, never seeing the outside, no family, no life outside of here, happiness .... gone.

A hand rubbed against my shoulders tapping lightly " what is this place" looking back at each other than at me " this is a place were they take you, monitor you, watch your every move until they either move you or you die " rider gripped river arms firmly " chill"

The room door swung open and a tall lanky man with a mask covering his whole face leaving his eyes revealed. A silver button sticking out of his neck like it was naturally attached to him with with wires connecting towards his ear ,upon pressing the button with black latex gloves , river and rider fell to the floor holding their heads with veins popping out of their temples.River screamed crying out for my help , anxiety filled my mind clouding my train of thought and I shouted hoping I could do something anything to make it all go away" STOP it you're hurting them!"
