1 Death and Transmigration

Nathan Grey was an ordinary 13 year old boy, living in an ordinary Earth with no magic or supernatural powers around. Ordinary was the type of impression he tried to give off, but internally he had never felt so ordinary. He had always felt as though he did not belong in his world.

Nathan was relatively popular at school, excelling in athletics and deemed as having a promising future n sports, but when he was home he usually retreated into him room and read Marvel comics or watched various movies from the MCU, instinctively drawn to that sort of world, wishing that he'd been born in a world in which he could have superpowers.

His favorite character was also his namesake, Nate Grey, aka X-man, and he wished that he could have powers like that Nate Grey. Even if he was one of the 'cool' kids at his school, he didn't feel cool, and defined his lack of coolness on his lack of special powers. Sure, no one in his world had them, but he still wanted them. He always felt a bit nuts because he thought that his world without them felt wrong.

After a day that was like any other day before it, Nathan went to bed in his own room and fell asleep upon his bed, but was not going to wake up like he always did. When he 'woke up', he was in a beautiful green plain near a beautiful lake, with a gorgeous woman with long black hair and black robes. "Hello, young Nathan." the woman said to him.

"Where am I? Who are you?" Nathan asked her.

"I am called Lady Death. I believe you've heard of me?" the woman asked with a smirk.

"Am I dead? What happened? Why?" Nathan suddenly was in a panicked state.

"Nothing like that." Lady Death insisted "You see, you were born in the wrong universe, so I am preparing to send you back to the universe you should have been born into. I am feeling generous, too, so as compensation for the mistake whereyour soul was born into the wrong world, I'm prepared to give you one ability you desire, though keep in mind that your ability can only be at a level your body is capable of enduring."

"So if I wanted Nate Grey's powers?" Nathan asked, but was not expecting a favorable response.

"He has multiple powers, so I am afraid that would not be possible." Lady Death answered to him "Even if you were to receive his abilities, though, your body could not bear the powers to the same level as him, so you'd be considerably weaker."

Nathan sighed and was rather disappointed "Oh, what about the Phoenix Force?"

Lady Death shook her head "To be accepted by that, you should first be powerful both in telepathy and telekinesis, so someone like you would not be able to wield that power."

"You mean I wouldn't be able to wield its powers directly, right...? But what about indirectly?" Nathan asked her with curiosity "What if I asked to be able to summon and control a clone of Hope Summers, who has the power of the White Phoenix of the Crown?"

Lady Death's eyes filled with surprise "Oh, clever mortal. Yes, that just might work." she started laughing.

"Okay, then my power of choice is as follows. I want to be able to summon a clone of Hope Summers with the White Phoenix of the Crown, and to gradually assimilate the Phoenix Force over time, eventually making it my own when my body can handle it." Nathan declared boldly.

"You entertain my greatly, mortal. I look forward to seeing what you'll do. Good luck." Lady Death declared before everything went black.

A moment later, Nathan opened his eyes and found himself in a park with the sun just starting to rise, his clothes seeming a bit tighter then before. He looked at himself and saw his muscles seemed to have grown a bit. He was always physically fit, even in that other world, but maybe this is what he's have looked like with the same effort if he'd been born in this world? That was his best guess. He did not seem any taller, nor did he think he was any older.

Nathan started looking over his body and clothes, and at first, apart from a bit more muscle mass, everything seemed the same, until his hair. His previously black hair had turned blond, though the length was the same.

Nathan then looked around his surroundings some more and spotted a red-haired girl, seemingly around his age, seemingly asleep on a bench. There was an immediate connection between them as soon as he spotted her.

Whereas Nathan was wearing the blue jeans and shirt that he went to bed in, Hope was dressed a bit oddly, or at least in a manner he couldn't recall seeing her in the comics, with a sunflower themed dress that mixed orange and yellow, and that looked really cute on her.

Concentrating on the connection between them, he soon saw Hope open her beautiful light-green eyes and start to stand up. He knew that apart from his purely physical attributes, he'd probably be vulnerable for a while, so he accepted that he'd need to rely on her "Hello Hope. It's an honor to meet you. Please take care of me."

Nate wasn't sure why he said it, since she was a clone that he could summon and was not the real Hope Summers, but it still seemed like the right thing to do. He guessed that it was just a bit of instinctive chivalry because he thought she was so pretty.

"Status?" Nathan said, testing just in case he had some kind of system.

Nothing happened. He shrugged, concluding that he had no system at all that would hold his hand and help him to grow stronger here, so he'd have to do it the hard way.

------

Mentally controlling Hope to walk alongside, they left the park and soon realized that they were in New York City, February, 13th, 2000, When he realized that, he knew he had just over eight years before events started in the MCU, and he had a feeling that he probably did not want to spend all those years in New York City, since he had no identity here, and no social security number, he'd be in trouble if the wrong people started asking questions.

If HYDRA came after him now, what could he do? Nothing. he hypothetically could go to S.H.I.E.L.D., but he could not count on them to protect him, so instead he decided that they needed to get out of New York City, somewhere that they could lay low and he could train without catching the attention of HYDRA.

After careful consideration, he could think of only one place, and conveniently the only one that could get him there was right by his side. Nathan looked at Hope and a smile spread across his face, though he knew that he'd have too find a secluded place and wait until nightfall to use that method of travel, since it would draw attention to their location.

After wandering the city a bit for the day, they returned to the park after night began, and frankly it was hard to find a place with no people around. That was easily remedied, though, by having Hope use telepathy to suggest that people should move away and not bother them.

Once they were alone, Nathan looked at Summer "Open the Portal please."

Hope's eyes emitted a white light and nearby them, space tore open and Hope ran through first, followed by Nathan.

------

Heimdall had been guarding the bifrost like usual when suddenly space tore open nearby, and it had nothing at all to do with the bifrost! He readied his sword and swung it the moment someone exited that portal, intending to split the person in half, but the blow was blocked by some kind of barrier and the red-haired girl remained unharmed "I am not an enemy, Heimdall." Hope answered as she had been instructed and telekinetically pushed the Asgardian back more so that she could move forward and give Nathan room to fully pass through the portal.

Once he fully emerged from the portal Nathan mentally commanded Hope to collapse the portal and she did so.

"Who are you two?" Heimdall asked with shock.

"I am the White Phoenix of the Crown, but you can call me Hope." Hope answered as instructed.

"My name is Nate Grey. I am to be trained to inherit power from her, but in my world, her power will not go unnoticed for long" Nate had just decided to stop thinking of himself as Nathan and shorten it to Nate instead.

"Your people are honorable." Hope told Heimdall matter-of-factly according to the script that Nate had created "I hope that your All-Father wont object to us training here for a couple years"
