4 The Prince's Noble Army

The door creaked open and revealed a medium-sized room with a billiards table, a whiteboard, and a few chairs. Playing by himself, stood a boy, large in height and medium-small in stature, wearing a collared white shirt that only slightly tucked into his khaki pants. His hair was solid green, and behind his glasses, Miya could see his eyes.

They were a gem-like green with no pupil nor iris, and he had a strange mark, spanning from both sides of his mouth to his ears. He made no acknowledgment of their entry, although it was apparent that he'd noticed their presences.

Kem walked into the room with enthusiasm.

"What'ya up to, Chance?"

Chance stopped his game and faced toward Kem, his facial expression changing from a blank look into a smile.

"Playing billiards. Why are you out of class?"

His mouth hadn't moved.

He stood in a resting position now, and he made subtle glances toward Miya. The mark on his face had a strange feeling about it, but although his mouth didn't move, he had a charming air to him. He carried himself like a man of high class and dressed so as well, not too formal but formal.

"We're looking for Bo. You seen him anywhere?"

"Yes. He's in our usual lunch spot with Nifla and Tip."

"I should've known! Well, see ya!"

Kem darted out of the door and in the direction of the main building.

'Why'd he leave me here?'

The room was silent for a while, Chance standing in the same position with his billiard stick in hand, but after a while of allowing his eyes to wander, he moved.

Chance finally dropped his billiards stick and walked toward her, and as he approached her, the difference in their sizes made itself apparent, Miya's head angling to meet his eyes.

"Sorry about that. I'm sure you've noticed his hyperactive personality by now. Trust me when I say he means well."

The fact that he talked without…well…talking, confused her. He made facial expressions as his voice was released, but she could tell that the sound wasn't being released by him.

"I've heard of you. Your name is Miya, I'm told. I have no intention of coming across as rude, but why not open your eyes around others? Especially your friends? Although special-grades like us can see through our eye sockets, loosen up a bit."

He made a small gesture that Miya didn't understand and continued talking off of his statement.

"No need for further introduction, for now. It seems like you're in need of my assistance since Kem has gone and left you with me. Escort her to Bo."

On his last order, he looked behind himself, and nothing happened for a while. Miya looked around confusedly, wondering if he was talking to her.

'Who is he talking to?'

She continued to look around the room and found no one to which he could be talking to.

"Yes sir!"

Multiple voices spoke at once without a source in sight, and immediately, Miya felt as if someone had grabbed her by the hand, but she couldn't see who.

"Let's go, Miss Miya. We'll lead the way for you."

Miya was too startled to move, but Chance stepped forward.

"Look into my eyes, Miya. There is no need to be afraid."

She obeyed, and as she looked into his eyes, more figures began to appear around him.

They were like green soldiers, each clad in knight-like armor and holding various weapons. They stood, encircling Chance, and as she looked away from him, she noticed there were even more surrounding herself. There was one Soul Puppet that stood out to her, matching the outline of Chance.

"Woooaaahhh!"

She could feel her face light up.

The puppet that looked like Chance's mouth moved instead of himself.

"See? This is my family. All those throughout my family tree you will find throughout this building, defending each and every one of the students in this school. I hold the power of the Spirit Puppeteer which has been passed down through my family since these super-human abilities came to be. I hope to be seeing you soon, friend."

The apparitions nudged Miya out of the door until she finally began walking with them on her own accord.

'He seemed like a good person.'

Miya couldn't get the experience out of her mind until she finally gave in and opened her eyes. She wasn't used to having them open and it scared her how her power could affect others, but, for some reason, she trusted Chance's words.

Her powers seemed to have no affect on Chance's soul puppets.

"How has your day been, Miss Miya?"

The apparitions were all looking toward her while still guiding her throughout the building, their footsteps making no sound at all.

"Very…interesting."

'I find it hard to even put the events of this day into words.'

"Excuse Chance for showing off a bit there. Must mean he likes you."

The apparitions giggled amongst themselves.

"I apologize, but could you tell me more about him? He barely told me anything before sending us off."

They were now passing what appeared to be the Headmaster's office.

"Sure thing. You've come to the right place. We know basically everything there is to know about Chance."

They all cleared their throats, but only one spoke.

He spoke in a listing manner.

"He's been a friend to Kem and Bo since he was really little. He's a bit of a softy when it comes to ladies but he's sweet about it. He works hard at everything and is known for being the #1 student at this academy."

Their faces grew sadder.

"Unfortunately, 7 years ago he was caught in an incident involving the late Icarus Kreyn, and we lost our lives. Everyone including his mother and father passed away, but thanks to our lineage, we're able to 'live on', so-to-speak, as Chance's helpers. Only a strong man could look in the eyes of the man who caused the death of his own family and not hate or scorn them."

They stopped in front of a door, and Miya could hear chatter inside. The apparitions continued to speak, their voices becoming more sad as they said their goodbyes.

"Well. I'm afraid that I won't be able to tell you anymore for we have arrived at our destination. I hope Bo can meet your expectations."

They all came together and gave Miya a hug, and she returned the favor.

"Thank you all!"

She waved them goodbye, and before she knew it, they'd vanished without a trace. Other soldiers lingered around the entrance to the room they had stopped by, but they slowly began to fade out of sight.

'I guess whatever Chance did is wearing off.'

She put her hand on the doorknob before opening, the voices behind the door becoming louder as she entered.
