14 Elena's New Boss Part 1

Somewhere in a rather nice and fairly expensive neighborhood stood a lone house. This house had three floors each of which belonged to wealthy manager of an amusement park and his loveable daughter. The manager was rather short but through his formal business suit, there were vaguely bulging muscles outlining his somewhat fit physique. He sported a head full of black waxed hair that was thrown back and neatly arranged as one big wave. This man who was currently plagued with a headache is manager Miles.

Standing directly opposite of him, was his daughter, who at this moment was causing him no shortage of troubles. Elena was crossing her smooth white arms in displeasure, as she gazed at her father with a hint of displeasure.

The cause of this displeasure, stems from a slight disagreement they had just this morning. A couple of days prior Elena had gone to work as usual, and sure she may have broken a couple of things here and there, but at least she was trying her best. However, later that day she was called by her dad to go eat lunch and on her way there she met Jack, a security guard with whom she had never spoken to before. Surprisingly enough, Jack had also been called on by her dad and this was the start of Elena's suspicions.

After walking a couple of minutes, Elena arrived at the place and rushed to her dad's side happily. Initially she had seen that her dad looked to be in a conversation with someone else, but she thought that it was just her dad making idle chatter with one of the visitors, as he had done a couple of times before.

It was not until he embarrassingly introduced her to the youth that was before him that Elena took another glance at the supposed 'visitor'. Her first impression of the youth was rather ordinary, after all they haven't interacted for long, and she didn't see anything about him that was impressionable. Later on she heard that he was supposed to be her new boss and that she had been transferred to the old haunted house, who she was sure was going to be demolished in the near future.

Nonetheless, Elena took a closer look at her new boss, and resolved herself to work hard in order to please him. Elena was certainly clumsy, but her resolve was something to be admired.

After having followed him to the haunted house, her new boss, who by this point she had learned was named Daniel, turned around and was about to distribute the work, but quickly after Jack walked away to go on a smoke break. Elena saw as Daniel face slowly turned helpless, and she couldn't help but think it was somewhat funny, but refrained from laughing and possibly angering her new boss.

Though she initially wanted to work hard at her new job, when she was given the option of not doing anything and still get paid she couldn't help but accept cheerfully.

As she stepped through the doors of the haunted house, her starting impression of the haunted house went from 'abandoned' to 'wrecked'. It was an absolute mess and Elena was now feeling somewhat guilty that her boss was going to be doing all the work by himself. She carefully stepped around the hall as she avoided stepping on the props, however it seems that her nature got the better of her yet again.

She hadn't even made it to the door when she had tripped on a very slight bump on the carpet, and her immediate response was to take another step so as not to fall down. However, she had unfortunately stepped on a prop, that looked to be in a fairly decent condition, and broke it. As if she wasn't already feeling a bit guilty, Elena was now feeling useless, but she still turned around and meekly apologized.

"Come on Elena you can do better than this," once in the staff break room, Elena admonished herself lightly. She grabbed her phone and procedeed to search all over the internet for anything that could help her in turning this into a successful haunted house, however the material that was out there was very little. Even after having searched all afternoon, Elena felt like she had come no closer to understanding what it takes to manage a haunted house, and before she knew it Daniel had stopped by to tell her that she could go.

Before she left, Elena glanced back at the sweat-covered youth, who was in the process of stuffing several props into a black garbage bag, and thought to herself that he was at least very hardworking.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day Elena had stopped by the haunted house right on time and knocked on the wide doors excitedly, however even after knocking on them for quite some time the doors wouldn't budge.

The temperature was freezing and the wind howled as it crashed against Elena's small frame, nonetheless she did not budge and stood there for a whole 30 minutes. She felt wronged, thinking about how enthusiastic she was about the haunted house before, and the previous guilt she felt before had faded away.

Her boss eventually opened the door, after having called out to him for so long, and she saw his rather messy appereance as he had just woken up and gotten out of bed. Last night she felt pretty good about him and thought he was a hard-working guy, but after today that impressions dropped right back to neutral territory.

Eventually it was settled that he was to go get her a cup of hot coffee, to which Elena happily agreed to as she went inside to warm up.

Once inside, Elena eye's scanned the halls and was shocked. The inially messy and overall wrecked appereance was now replaced by this somber and quiet emptiness. The halls were clear of any props and all that was left was a darkly colored hallway that seemed dreadful in the dim lighting of the haunted house.

Even Elena had to admit that she was impressed by how quickly the halls were sorted out and the impression that had gone down just a few minutes ago rose up a little. However, Elena was still cold but as impressed as she was that feeling could not warm her cold body, so she once again rushed down the hall and quickly wrapped herself with the messy blanket that was left on the bed.

A couple of minutes had gone by and she was feeling much better, so she took a peek out the windows to see if she could spot her boss as he was coming in. The first thing she noticed as she brought her face closer to the window, was the snow-white bone sticking out from the ground just outside the haunted house in a small field.

The white bone felt strangely mesmerizing and Elena could hardly bear to pry her eyes away from it. Even though it seemed ordinary, to Elena this simplicity was somehow the most enchanting thing in the world. The bone was wrapped up in this enagmatic air that whispered at her to take a closer look.

Her hands raised as she made contact with the frosty window. Elena's pupils dilated as she lost herself in the reviere that was the dog bone, and even she didn't notice that she was slowly inching her head closer to the window almost as if she thought he could phase through it.

As she repositioned her body to move closer to the window, she heard a loud smack coming from the floor, and Elena realized that she had inavertedly knocked down something. Quickly knocking herself out of her stupor, Elena looked down at the floor only to find a black phone laying face down without any cover.Elena's face paled as she though she might've broken it, so she quickly bent down and picked it up.

The phone felt incomparibly heavy in her hands, almost as if it were refusing to be held by her, and it lacked any words or symbols that could help her in identifying what brand it was. She curiously tossed and turned it but she couldn't find anything at all. The phone was devoid of any marks or cracks or bends. Elena inspected the phone closely, and she was growing even more curious by how little she had found, completely forgetting about the enchanting white bone she had just seen. Elena was just about to press the on button, when the owner had come back grumbling as he held a cup of steaming hot coffee in his hand.
