52 Sentimental

Didn't we agree to talk about Auntie Sun's past on the way to the hospital? Why did the the topic circle around to marriage? An Qi looked helplessly at Leng Yuchen, who was making dangerous moves while he was driving.

She then said, "You should focus on your driving! As for the matter between us, can't it wait until after we see Auntie Sun?"

In order to reassure An Qi, Leng Yuchen stopped staring at her and refocused his eyes on the road as he said, "An Qi, given your present abilities, do you really think that you can compete with Gu Xiaonan, who already has some standing in the Leng Group?"

An Qi lowered her head and sighed. "I know what you mean. In fact, I do not aim to rise above any of the others in the Leng Group. I'm satisfied just to be able to help my father maintain his Hairui business under the umbrella of the Leng Group."

"It's good that you think this way. But, you cannot take for granted that Gu Xiaonan will let you off of the hook because of that," Leng Yuchen replied.

He was still driving the car at top speed, so he hardly blinked at all as he said, "Since I've been investigating the people around you, I gradually began to look into the Leng Group's working partners. Secretly, these partners have placed many of their own people in the Leng Group. I also found out that Gu Xiaonan was brought into the company by your father."

"Hmm, I did hear the two of them mention that before," An Qi murmured.

"Then, you should also know that Gu Xiaonan now has a copy of your contract. So, if you make even the slightest mistake, she will probably use the opportunity to have you removed. At that time, if I don't hold the legal rights to her, Yufei will naturally be turned over to your father to be raised. Do you want to see that happen?" Leng Yuchen asked.

An Qi was stunned, not because of Leng Yuchen's harsh words, but because she knew in her heart that what he said was true. If anything was to happen to An Qi, little Yufei would be taken in by An Qi's father. So, An Qi had to wonder...

At that time, would Yufei be subjected to being controlled by Gu Xiaonan and her mother?

An Qi could never allow anything like that to happen! As An Qi struggled in her heart, Leng Yuchen slammed on the brakes sharply, as they had just arrived at the hospital.

"No matter what, after seeing Auntie Sun, you must give me an answer," Leng Yuchen said.

It seemed that Leng Yuchen did not intend to accompany An Qi into the hospital. An Qi understood his reasons, so she did not try to force him. Instead, she thanked him for for the ride, then got out of the car.

"Don't mention it. I hope you'll give me a satisfactory answer after you've seen her. Then, once we are married, you'll become Mrs. Leng, and you won't have to be so formal and polite to me anymore," he said with a smile.

Though An Qi felt that Leng Yuchen's points were valid, she did not dare answer him without careful consideration. After all, he was proposing marriage!

When she reached Auntie Sun's ward, Auntie Sun had already been pushed into the operating room, leaving Shi Zhiwen alone to go handle all of the paperwork and other hospitalization procedures for her.

"Why are you all alone? Didn't Hairui send a representative over?" An Qi asked. Since something so serious had just happened, An Qi felt that her father should have definitely sent someone over.

At the mention of that, Shi Zhiwen got a sullen look on his face as he replied, "Yes, someone was sent here."

"Oh, where is that person now?" An Qi asked.

"Well… Seeing that this happened at the Leng Group facilities, the person said that they would not be taking responsibility, then left." Shi Zhiwen grabbed the hospitalization papers tightly in his fist, clearly upset.

After all, Auntie Sun had worked for Hairui for most of her life. He felt that she deserved better.

"Surely that can't be right? I thought that Hairui's corporate culture was warm and caring when it came to its employees!" An Qi could not help but speak up for her father's company.

At least before she left, she knew that her father still upheld the ideal of treating his employees like family members. But, in the case of the Grass Flower Snake, her father had apparently sided with Zeng Xuerou. Considering that five years had passed, An Qi was not surprised that many things had changed in her absence.

"Well, I don't know about warmth and caring, but from the speed of the representative's 'escape' just now, I can see that the higher ups are quite agile and quick on their feet if nothing else!" Shi Zhiwen's words were dripping with sarcasm.

An Qi felt ashamed for Hairui's top management, as this way of handling things was indeed shameful. She then asked, "Tell me about Auntie Sun..."

An Qi knew that her standpoint was much different than Shi Zhiwen's. Thus, it was not appropriate for them to discuss Hairui's corporate culture any further.

When he was asked about Auntie Sun, Shi Zhiwen seemed to have a lot to say. "Last night, we left very late and saw your ex-boyfriend. I was afraid that he would come and cause trouble for you this morning, so I came to the company very early today. Unexpectedly, when I pushed open the door, I saw Auntie Sun. She was barely alive!"

"Could it be that she drank too much last night?" An Qi asked.

Shi Zhiwen shrugged his shoulders, then replied, "I don't know… But, when I saw her lying there... Barely alive... I suddenly felt that we are all just tiny beings, who cannot escape our fates at all!"

Hearing these words made An Qi feel sad and dispirited. But, before she could hear more and figure out what was going on, she received a message from Leng Yuchen. After reading it, An Qi felt even worse.

"What happened? Shi Zhiwen asked An Qi, after seeing the grim look on her face. He then looked at her phone and shouted, "This is it!"

It was a surveillance video that was taken beside the elevator on the fourth floor of the Leng Group Building. Although it was still not clear what had happened to Auntie Sun, a man's voice could be heard.

The man asked, "Old Sun, we told you to take care of An Qi!"

"Oh, Mr. Liu, you just told me to watch her sign her contract, and I did! What else did you want me to do exactly?" Auntie Sun's voice sounded pained, and An Qi frowned upon hearing it.

She listened to the audio over and over until her phone's battery died. She then ran out of the ward, while gritting her teeth.

Shi Zhiwen could tell that something was wrong from An Qi's stern expression, so he hurried out as well. Unfortunately, he did not manage to get into the elevator with her, but only saw the determined look in An Qi's eyes as the elevator doors slid closed.

An Qi, you must not do anything rash! Shi Zhiwen prayed as he ran down the stairs.

The elevator felt as if it stayed on each floor for a very long time. Maybe it was because Shi Zhiwen was so anxious, but he flew down the stairs like lightning!

When he ran out of the main door, he did not see An Qi. But, he did see Boss Leng, who was leaning on his blue sports car and smoking a cigarette. He seemed to be waiting for someone.
