35 Indescribable Charm

The next morning, An Qi's eyes were half open, and she looked as if she was a zombie. This was because she had not slept well at all the night before.

An Qi felt that little Yufei had something on her mind. However, no matter how An Qi had tried to coax her into telling her what it was, little Yufei did not divulge what was on her mind, but only huddled silently in An Qi's arms.

Soon after that, An Qi had fallen asleep with her daughter in her arms. An Yufei, however, did not fall asleep right away. Instead, she had been waiting with her ears wide open till three o'clock in the morning, when she heard the sound of the loud engine from Gu Xiaonan's car.

An Yufei noticed that Gu Xiaonan would deliberately rev the engine loudly whenever she went in and out of her house's entrance, as she wanted all of the others to notice that she was driving a luxury car.

But, last night, Gu Xiaonan had not made her usual noisy entrance. Instead, she had stopped her car 100 meters away from the house.

An Yufei quickly leaned over closer to the bay window. In the darkness, she could see that Gu Xiaonan was carrying a sack and was sneaking into the house.

An Yufei grinned and wondered... Why would she be carry a ratty old sack with her haughty taste in fashion? Unless it contains something that could be used to harm people!

As An Yufei was watching Gu Xiaonan and Zeng Xuerou through the glass window, she thought to herself… If I am guessing it right, today after mother's departure, the two of them plan to...

"An Qi, An Yufei, are you comfortable living here?" An Shijie suddenly asked them from his place at the other end of the table.

This was the first time that An Shijie had talked to An Qi after she had found out that he had married Zeng Xuerou. His voice felt deafening to An Qi's ears, especially when she had just learned the truth about the kidnapping from Leng Jin.

When she thought of how her mother had died in such a way, while her father had married Zeng Xuerou, her anger was seething within her. She slammed down her knife and fork, then looked at Zeng Xueru and Gu Xiaonan for about three seconds before she said to An Shijie softly, "Apart from two extra bed bugs, everything here is the same as before. Yufei and I are pretty comfortable."

As soon as the An Qi finished speaking, Gu Xiaonan immediately reacted. It was obvious that the "bed bugs" that An Qi was referring to were Gu Xiaonan and her mother! Gu Xiaonan stood up, gripped her fork in her hand, and pointed at An Qi as if she was going to scratch her face with it.

She then yelled, "Did you just call me a bedbug? Speak plainly!"

"Xiaonan!" Zeng Xuerou stood up and gently grabbed Gu Xiaonan's fork. "Why are you being so sensitive? An Qi was just kidding!"

Although Zeng Xuerou was consoling Gu Xiaonan, her eyes never left An Shijie's face. This was because she wanted to see how important An Qi was in his heart!

However, An Qi was not at all bothered by Gu Xiaonan's sudden temper tantrum nor Zeng Xuerou's speech. She glanced at An Yufei, only to see that her daughter had been quietly eating her breakfast, and was not disturbed in the least by Gu Xiaonan or her mother.

An Qi felt at ease as she looked at An Shijie and asked, "Dad, don't you see a big bed bug pulling a small bedbug?"

Gu Xiaonan, who had just been soothed by Zeng Xuerou, lost control all over again. "Mom, Daddy An, her words are so harsh!"

As Zeng Xuerou struggled to pull her daughter back, she almost turned the table over!

Seeing Zeng Xuerou almost losing control over Gu Xiaonan, An Shijie suddenly put his hands out to steady the dining table and shouted, "That's enough!"

Upon hearing his rebuke, Zeng Xuerou shrank back, while her eyes immediately filled with tears.

"Xiaonan, have you been unhappy with your work in the Leng Group recently? Or... Is your job too stressful for you? Why do you have such a hot temper? Should I go and talk to Old Lu, and maybe get him to switch you to another department?" An Shijie asked.

At this moment, Zeng Xuerou, who had been holding her daughter back, seemed to have suddenly lost all of her strength, and she loosened her grip on her daughter's clothes and drooped her head.

Gu Xiaonan was hit hard by this situation. After all, she had taken advantage of An Qi's absence these past few years years, using the time to please An Shijie, even addressing him as "Daddy An." So, when he unexpectedly threatened removing her from her job at the Leng Group, it was devastating to her.

It seemed that An Shijie's own daughter was even more important than her now! As she thought of this, Gu Xiaonan quickly grabbed her handbag, glared at An Qi, then bid goodbye to Zeng Xuerou and An Shijie. She then stomped away with great hatred in her heart.

As Zeng Xuerou watched her daughter leave, she thought in her heart that she would not let go of this matter!

An Qi was so engrossed in thinking about Gu Xiaonan working in the same company as her that she forgot to get her temporary work vest when she passed by the security booth.

"Hey! You forgot your work vest!" the security guard called after her.

"Oh..." An Qi absentmindedly took a vest.

Just then, a male voice came from beside her, "Miss, you took mine."

An Qi looked up, her hand still holding on to the vest.

"Miss, that is my temporary work vest. Please go over there and get yours." The man seemed a little impatient as he was insisting that it was his vest.

An Qi was upset by his attitude and asked, "Isn't it just a vest? How can such a big man like you be such a nag? Isn't it first come, first serve? Since I am was in front of you, this vest should be mine!"

Before the man could respond, An Qi grabbed the vest from him in anger, then put it on without saying anything else. Wearing the vest, she then rushed into the building in a hurry.

Shi Zhiwen looked at An Qi and thought to himself... Is this the woman I have to protect? She does seem to have an indescribable charm.
