87 Herbivores

An Qi and Sheng Jie waited until everyone got off work, but Leng Yuchen never appeared. For a moment, An Qi even felt grateful for his absence. After all, Yu Hao's words and remarks had been pretty snide, and even an ordinary man might not be able to accept them, let alone a man as proud as Leng Yuchen!

"Saiwei Clubhouse? Sheng Jie, do you know where that is?" An Qi asked.

A few minutes before the shift ended, Dong Manman sent An Qi the venue name for tonight's party. Because An Qi had not returned in so long, she was unfamiliar with the new hotel clubs in the area. Thus, she had no choice but to ask Sheng Jie.

As An Qi asked the question, her voice was still quite hoarse. It sounded as if someone had dumped a can of sand into her mouth, making her tone squeaky and unclear.

Fortunately, Sheng Jie was a very keen and astute person, so the word "Saiwei" piqued his interest immediately. An Qi instantly picked up on this, judging by the O-shape that he formed with his mouth in surprise.

"Wow, who's going to Saiwei?" he asked. "It is not a cheap place."

"It's my female friend. She invited me to have dinner there." An Qi did not know why she had to add an explanation to Sheng Jie to alert him that her friend was female, but it might have something to do with the fact that Sheng Jie was Leng Yuchen's main assistant. Hence, whenever she was talking to him, An Qi would always unconsciously associate him with Leng Yuchen.

So, if An Qi were to try to hide anything from him deliberately now, it would seem that she really had some secrets to hide. Sheng Jie didn't notice anything wrong with An Qi at the moment, but he seemed to be quite interested in Saiwei Clubhouse.

"It's no wonder, An Qi, as you're still Hairui's young missus in name, and the friends you know are all wealthy, second-generation folks. It would make sense for you to go to a place like Saiwei in order to match your status and show off your identity." Sheng Jie smiled enviously, and his eyes were full of longing as he spoke of the elite place.

An Qi was puzzled, and she wondered... Since when did simply having a meal become a show of power and status?

As she looked at the glimmer of light and envy in Sheng Jie's eyes, it made her feel a little unhappy. It seemed that her status was creating a distance between her and other people, which was only going to increase as the days went by. She felt sad as she though of how the separation of identity and one's social status affects not only the communication between people, but also their hearts and minds toward one another.

The reason why she'd never entered the hearts of Yu Hao and Gu Xiaonan might be due to this very thing. They simply attached to much importance to one's identity and status.

"Sheng Jie, since Yuchen is not here, would you like to go with me?" An Qi asked eagerly.

"Uh..." Sheng Jie put his hand on his chin as he pondered her invitation.

"Well… Are you going or not? You must give me a definite answer!" Irked by Sheng Jie's hesitation, An Qi hit him in the chest with an unhappy punch.

But, she'd used a little too much strength, so her punch almost caused Sheng Jie to shed tears of pain. It was unknown if the problem was that An Qi had suddenly become much stronger or if Sheng Jie was just too frail to withstand it.

"Going! I'm going, alright?" Sheng Jie confirmed, while trying to keep the huge teardrops from falling from his eyes.

An Qi rolled her eyes at him. She had not expected that Leng Yuchen's assistant would be such a weakling! She reminded herself to be sure to bring this up and make fun of him the next time she saw Leng Yuchen. As she thought of this, she suddenly wondered… But, where hasLeng Yuchen gone?

He'd turned off his cell phone, had not returned home, and hadn't even brought the driver and bodyguard along with him. Moreover, he'd left the company alone, and even his main assistant, Sheng Jie, did not know where he'd gone!

Therefore, the reason why An Qi had asked Sheng Jie to attend the dinner was to avoid suspicion. Since Leng Yuchen would know about her and Leng Jin's past sooner or later, An Qi preferred that he learn it from Sheng Jie's mouth rather than her having to personally tell Leng Yuchen herself.

Secondly, An Qi had a personal motive. Although Leng Yuchen did not seem to be fond of Sheng Jie on the surface, and his attitude towards his main assistant was quite unfriendly, after An Qi had interacted more with Leng Yuchen, she had slowly begun to realize that he was actually a very strange person. He was so strange that the more he cared about and liked something or someone, the more he would pretend to be cold and uncaring towards them.

A prime example of this baffling behavior was his attitude toward Sheng Jie. Another example was his indifference to An Qi whenever they were at the company.

Judging by this, it could only be said that men's hearts are as hard to get as needles are to be found in a haystack! Furthermore, a little eccentricity was actually normal for such a powerful man like Leng Yuchen.

At the Saiwei Clubhouse.

When the clock struck seven in the evening, all of the other hotels nearby were already brightly lit and crowded with people. But, even after Dong Manman had downed her fifth glass of champagne, there were still very few people at the Saiwei Clubhouse. So, she was feeling quite bored.

The reason why Dong Manman was drinking so much this night was simply because her heart was bleeding. In order to nab this reservation at such an elite venue, she had basically had to spend all of the money in her wallet! At the moment, there was only one green dollar bill left, which she had to save to put in the cash box when she took the bus home later that night.

"What kind of bloody place has dream lover Leng chosen to dine at? It's basically a place that will drink your blood!" Her strange exclamation stemmed partly from her drunken state and partly from the way that she saw the place as a spot for her to drink away her 'bloody' hard-earned money!

"Waiter! Another champagne please!" Dong Manman slurred.

This went on for quite some time, so by the time An Qi and Sheng Jie appeared, Dong Manman was already so drunk that she was truly speaking complete gibberish!

"Eh? An Qi? " Dong Manman pinched An Qi's face and began to dance around with joy as she saw An Qi appear. She was clearly drunk!

Sheng Jie quickly pulled the mad woman away from An Qi. After all, An Qi had just been injured this afternoon. If she were to get injured again by Dong Manman's roughness, he would be in big trouble with Boss Leng! If he'd known that he would have to be An Qi's bodyguard, he wouldn't have come with her this evening!

Just when Sheng Jie was grumbling to himself, An Qi made an awkward introduction, "This is my friend Dong Manman."

"Oh... This is the friend you were telling me about! I thought I was going to have to attack someone in order to protect you!" As soon as Sheng Jie heard that she was a friend, he immediately relaxed.

An Qi laughed. "'Oh please! Who was the one who Yu Hao had hooked his arms around and lectured for half the day this afternoon?" An Qi teased.

Sheng Jie was speechless after he heard her witty sarcasm, and he wondered… Why haven't I realized before that An Qi is so good at burning people? Man, she'd been holding back and pretending to be this innocent little bunny before she married Boss Leng!

Sheng Jie realized that her level of deviousness was indeed about the same as Boss Leng's. Haha, Birds of a different feather do flock together indeed!

"Your friend's quite drunk! What should we do now? Should I carry her away?" Sheng Jie glanced at Dong Manman, then waved his hands frantically as he asked An Qi for her advice.

He then took a closer look at Dong Manman, shook his head, and said, "Hmm... I seem to have overestimated myself again, as my weight seems to be not in the same class as hers!"

As soon as he'd said that, Dong Manman seemed to sober up instantly, her head shooting up and her eyes growing wide as she asked, "My gosh! What did you just say that you are you going to do to me?"

Sheng Jie looked at Dong Manman, who was staring straight at him now, while flashing a pure smile that was unique to herbivores. Unfortunately, he'd spoken without thinking just now, hinting that Dong Manman was fat, and right in front of her, too!

But, after all, it was true, as she was indeed someone who could use to sacrifice a few dinners in order to stay slim. But, based on her reaction just now, he knew that if he attempted to drag her away from this dinner, she would put a good fight!
