57 Gu, the Demoness

Even though she knew it was all part of Leng Jin's plan, she knew that she had to go to the dinner. After all, her sole aim was to not let Gu Xiaonan succeed!

But, once Leng Jin happily received her consent and had left, An Qi instantly regretted her decision. She knew that she should not allow her decisions to be influenced by Gu Xiaonan, but she could not help it. Whenever she saw her, she could not help but feel intensely angry.

"Hey, is it too late to change my mind and say that I am not going?" An Qi shouted after him in the long corridor.

Leng Jin, who was walking in front of her, waved her off as he said, "Once a decision is made, it cannot be reversed! No regrets!"

An Qi secretly hated the way he had just put it, as if she was gambling and had placed a bet!

At the top floor of the Leng Group building, Manager Gu's ear-piercing voice could be heard. The sound of it made all of the employees shiver.

One by one, they cowered in fear, fearful of being spotted by Gu, the Demoness! However, much to their collective surprise, Gu Xiaonan came back this time not to find fault with them, but to hum happily, triumphantly even, as she skipped past their partitions as if she did not see them at all! This led all of them to speculate about what in the world was going on...

"My god! Did the sun rise from the west this morning? This beautiful villain has not cursed us for six consecutive hours! Something is amiss in this universe!"

"Exactly! I've been holding up my pee all afternoon, as I was so afraid that Manager Gu might call me into the office as soon as I left my station."

"Oh, you newcomers don't know?" From among the crowd, a slightly sophisticated voice could be heard, and everyone's eyes turned to focus on the speaker instantly.

The woman did not keep them guessing as to what she was alluding to as she explained, "The Vice President has been newly assigned as the leader of our Human Resources Department. If I am guessing correctly, Manager Gu has just found a new backer."

"Ah… I see! The new Vice President is the Leng family's first young master. He is currently ranked No. 1 on the list of the Leng Group's most handsome men! Although Boss Leng is also handsome, he has a cold look that keeps most people away. Therefore, his popularity is much lower than the first young master's..." As she spoke, a young lady staff member looked lovelorn.

She was all dressed up today for the sake of the Leng family's first young master. However, she did not expect to hear such bad news before she got off work.

"Huh, based on how you look, you can forget getting his attention anyway..." Someone could not help but joke about her obvious crush.

"Hey! What's wrong with me? Everyone is equal before a handsome man!" The sharp-tongued young lady refused to give in, but when she before she could officially win the argument, Gu Xiaonan suddenly appeared, staring at her angrily.

"You guys have time to gossip here, yet haven't had time to gather the information that I need? Do you find that your wages are too high?" Gu Xiaonan was seething with anger. She always vented her anger on her subordinates, always managing to somehow find all kinds of reasons for doing so.

"You vermin! Before tomorrow morning, I'll expect you each to copy the rules and regulations of the Human Resources Department 50 times, then turn it in to me first thing. Otherwise, you will all be fired!" After her rant was over, Gu Xiaonan deliberately slammed the office door loudly.

In fact, on her way back, she had wanted to find fault with her subordinates all along. But, as she knew that they were already familiar with her behavior patterns and were on guard against them, she knew that she had to be sneaky. So, she went back to the office, pretending to be in a good mood, and then turned back around to catch her staff unprepared!

However, even the rant did nothing to dispel Gu Xiaonan's anger. After all, the real issue was her anger toward An Qi!

If what Leng Jin had done at the main gate yesterday was to help An Qi out of her predicament, then Gu Xiaonan had to wonder… What about the way he had looked at An Qi today in the fourth floor office?

After thinking on this a while, she knew that her suspicions could not be wrong. After all, his eyes had revealed a man's lust. Gu Xiaonan had seen such lustful eyes in men she met when she had worked in a bar during her younger days.

Gu Xiaonan tapped her fingertips on her desk, while thinking that, if An Qi continued to develop her relationship with Leng Jin, An Qi might climb to the position of the Leng Group's first young master's wife one day. Then, An Qi would be having the last laugh.

At the thought of that, Gu Xiaonan immediately took out her phone and sent a message to Yu Hao, asking him to meet her at Strolling Through Tokyo...

After An Qi sneezed a few times in the office on the fourth floor, Shi Zhiwen finally returned. Shi Zhiwen seemed to be still worried about Auntie Sun's affairs. Even An Qi ordering his favorite takeout north-eastern Chinese cuisine for him couldn't manage to bring a smile to his face.

"What's wrong?" An Qi asked as she gnawed at the big steak before her, not caring about her image.

In fact, An Qi was the one who enjoyed eating steak in big mouthfuls, while Shi Zhiwen preferred to eat north-eastern Chinese cuisine. Most girls nowadays would only eat half a portion of salad and drink some vegetable juice, then consider it a meal.

But, to An Qi, that was an insult to good food! An Qi treated food seriously, after all! As Shi Zhiwen looked at An Qi eating, he observed her oily fingers and ravenous appetite and could barely believe that she was a woman!

Moreover, she was Leng Yuchen's woman. He wondered whether Boss Leng knew about this unglamorous side of An Qi. If he did not, Shi Zhiwen had to wonder if Boss Leng could accept it. Although, judging from Leng Yuchen's warm and loving attitude towards An Qi, the possibility of his throwing her off over something like that was close to zero.

However, Shi Zhiwen was still willing to hope and look forward to a better tomorrow. With this optimistic thought in mind, he suddenly recovered some of his appetite and ate a little more.

An Qi was stunned by this, so she asked, "What changed your mood all of a sudden?"

Shi Zhiwen ate so happily and heartily, he even unaware that he had a few grains of rice that had stuck to his lips. An Qi winked at him, then gestured to her own mouth, implying to him that he should sweep the few grains of rice from his lips. But, when he saw it, he mistook it as an encouragement for him to eat more rice.

At the end of the meal, An Qi said, "I have an appointment tonight, so I'll leave you here, okay?"

"Don't worry, I can take care of myself, not like Auntie Sun." As Shi Zhiwen spoke, he flexed his strong muscles.

As An Qi reached out her fingertips to feel the muscles, she could manage to murmur a single word in reply, "Indeed."

Then, after collecting herself, she thought quickly of Auntie Sun and immediately became worried about his safety. "However, now that I think on it, you'd better go. You must be careful regarding those guys from yesterday, as they might try to harm you too."

"Madam, can you stop worrying for one second? If something happens, I'll die without regret, as I know that you are going to have dinner with me soon." Shi Zhiwen impatiently pushed An Qi towards the door, seeing in her eyes that she had been touched by his words.

But, the moment he closed the door behind her, he looked solemn instead of happy as he murmured, "An Qi, I really would die for you..."
