3 A Voice That Bewitches the Heart

"Yes, for the sake of our friendship, which has lasted for so many years, I just need an explanation!" An Qi said, while she stared at Gu Xiaonan.

If Gu Xiaonan could give her a reasonable explanation, even if she cried and begged her, saying that she could not keep herself from falling in love with Yu Hao, An Qi would probably never mention the money again. After all, she had grown up with these two people, and though An Qi was angry, she did not feel good in breaking up their friendship.

However, An Qi's kindness did not seem to be understood or appreciated by Gu Xiaonan. On the contrary, when she saw An Qi's hesitation, Gu Xiaonan let out a contemptuous sneer.

Gu Xiaonan then shifted her gaze from her bright red nails to An Qi, pausing after almost every word as she said, "Explain what? Explain the intimate session between me and Yu Hao... To you?"

An Qi gulped hard subconsciously. She could not believe that the woman in front of her was the same Gu Xiaonan from her childhood days, her bestie, and someone whom she could confide in!

"Don't you understand? I'm talking about sleeping with Yu Hao. An Qi, it seems that you've been hungry for love, while you have been abroad all these years... So hungry that you are inquiring about others' intimate love stories." Gu Xiaonan suddenly stood up on the bed, blinked her not very attractive eyes, and laughed at An Qi.

An Qi frowned. "Gu Xiaonan, when did you become like this?"

"I am simply being myself! I never changed! You have simply always misunderstood me." As Gu Xiaonan laid her hand on An Qi's shoulder and gave her an angry stare, a trace of viciousness could be seen in her eyes.

"An Qi, you are indeed better off than me, and more beautiful than me, too. But what's the use of all these things? Moreover, Yu Hao is just the beginning, as I will eventually take away all that belongs to you!"

After Gu Xiaonan said this, An Qi felt that she no longer had to take into account any sisterly affection that she for her. So, she removed Gu Xiaonan's hand from her shoulder, and just when she was about to mention the matter of her money's repayment, Gu Xiaonan unexpectedly collapsed!

While she covering her stomach and rolling around constantly on the ground, she looked like she was in a lot of pain and was constantly groaning. Upon hearing this, Zhang Lijuan forced open the bedroom door to see An Qi half-kneeling beside Gu Xiaonan, looking very frightened.

As she looked at Gu Xiaonan, who was in obvious pain, Zhang Lijuan had a tense look on her face. At the moment, An Qi felt that she was only acting, so she said softly, "Stop acting. I only gently shook off your hand from my shoulder…"

However, before she could finish her sentence, Zhang Lijuan suddenly jumped up and down like a mad woman, pushed An Qi away, and shouted, "Get out of here!"

An Qi was not prepared for this. After being given a sudden push, An Qi stumbled and hit the door frame. But, Zhang Lijuan was not bothered, as she was worried that An Qi would hurt Gu Xiaonan. While An Qi was trying to grab the door frame and was barely standing up, she then kicked An Qi in the stomach.

In her early years, before she had gotten married in the city, Zhang Lijuan was a farmer. As such, she was very strong, so An Qi was not her match at all. Thus, An Qi was forced into the stairway in order to dodge Zhang Lijuan's attack.

At this time, Gu Xiaonan stood up and wiped away her tears. Zhang Lijuan had put in every effort to prevent An Qi from hurting Gu Xiaonan once again.

As Gu Xiaonan had her arms around her chest and was leaning against the wall, she had a wide grin on her face. She was enjoying watching An Qi being humiliated, as it gave her a sense of joy. At the moment, she was remembering how An Qi had stood to the side and done nothing when she was harassed by hooligans at the back alley.

An Qi stared at Gu Xiaonan with wide eyes. Although she really wanted to break Zhang Lijuan's head open, when she looked at Zhang Lijuan's desire for her grandchild, it made her stop and rethink it. An Qi grasped the railing tightly and gradually loosened her hand. Just when Zhan Lijuan was about to retreat her outstretched leg, Gu Xiaonan gave out a low gasp from behind her.

The voice seemed to bewitch people, so much so that Zhang Lijuan's feet, which had been stationary in the air, all of a sudden attacked An Qi fiercely once more! As a result, An Qi lost her balance and rolled down the staircase to the first level.

After years of hard work and toiling to save money for Yu Hao, An Qi had often gone hungry, which had resulted in her body becoming very fragile. Hence, in the process of rolling down the stairs, she could hear the sound of bones breaking in her body.

"Auntie, why are you doing this? I don't blame Qiqi, as I am the one who should be blamed for loving a man that I shouldn't." Those were the last words that An Qi ever heard Gu Xiaonan say…

In the ward of Chengnan Hospital, the sunshine shone through the window warmly. The relatives who visited the patients in the ward were happy to see the bright sun shining after such a heavy rain the night before.

An Qi had just been woken up by some loud noises. Her left hand was fractured, elevated, and bandaged, while an infusion needle was embedded in her right hand.

"Oh, the silly girl is awake now!" someone exclaimed, while the other patients in the same ward kindly called the nurses for her. The nurses on duty, who were having dinner, then walked over.

When she had been brought in by an ambulance, there was no one with her. Her nose was bruised and her face was swollen. She also had some obvious wounds on her body, which were likely the results of a violent beating.

"You have some fractures and need a good rest. If you are living alone, it would be better if you could find someone to accompany you home." The nurse handed An Qi a list of instructions for after care. However, it was difficult for An Qi to lift her hands, so she had no choice but to smile embarrassingly at the nurse.

"Oh, yes." Seeing An Qi's bitter smile, the nurse suddenly understood the reason for it, and she simply slipped the list under An Qi's pillow and smiled.

After all, it was rare to see such a severely wounded patient arrive at the hospital alone. Just as An Qi and the nurse were smiling at each other, an irritated male voice came from the door of the ward...
