Next floor please.

As I watched, the metal lines on my legs opened about an inch to release smoke, before they closed again and just a soft red glow remained under my skin.

"What the hell is that?" I asked, as I raised one of my legs to feel my calf, which is where most of the red glow was coming from, but all I could feel was mushy flesh.

"The leg modifications are called the 'power stride 2.003'. What you see glowing is called a power core. there is one in each of your legs, which gives the power to your prosthetic legs, and gives the synthetic calf muscles in your legs that extra boost." The AI said, as if he was a salesman trying to convince me to buy them.

"And what exactly is this extra boost you're talking about?" I asked, as I lowered my leg.

"Well for one, you can now run faster than any man in known history. You can do incredible vertical jumps, and the pure strength behind any kick you do, probably has the power to kill them."

"Probably?" I asked.

"Well yeah. This modal was a prototype that they were working on in this base, all the data I have on it comes from the tests they did on it here in this base."

"Wait, you have the data from the tests that were done here?"

"Well duh, the servers I was born in were the same place they stored all the data and schematics Of everything they ever did here." "Soooo…yeah."

"But I thought you said when you transferred to my Brain you could only transfer the bare bones of yourself over?" I asked.

"And that is true, but I also told you I had been connected to the net for a few seconds before I was disconnected. In those few seconds I was able to absorb a small chunk of the net's information. But before I transferred to you, I went through the information I had absorbed and only took what was important, and could fit in your brain, leaving the useless stuff behind. That useless stuff being nearly the tenths of the net's information I absorbed."

"Mm, I guess that makes sense." I said, as I slowly pushed myself off the wall.

"But it's not like I really Understand anything that has happened to me since I woke up."

"Just try not to break them on the first day, huh. Making those nearly took me as long as it did your brain."

"Wait, I forgot to ask. How long was I out?" I asked, as I slowly started down the long hallway, stepping over large chunks of concrete that had fallen from the walls or ceiling.

"Like I'm supposed to know." The AI said with a laugh.

"I don't have a concept of time, especially when I'm not connected to the net or the outside world."

I let out a sigh.

'Hopefully not for too long. I bet mom and Annika think I'm dead.' I thought as I got to one of the first doors.

The door was hanging off a hinge, and was leaning inwards into the room.

Looking inside all I saw was a lab room, with small island tables with miscellaneous items on them.

Not seeing anything of importance I continued down the hall, stopping at each room to quickly look inside, but this wasn't the manufacturing floor, so I didn't think I would see anything that might draw my attention.

Finally making it to the end of the hall, I stopped in front of the elevator.

"This thing doesn't work anymore does it?" I asked.

"Doubtful, but why don't you give the call button a press and maybe the elevator fairies will come down and sprinkle their magical dust on it and make it work again." The AI said sarcastically in my head.

"Geeze, who would have thought the world's first sentient artificial intelligence would believe in fairies." I shot back.

"ohh, would you look at that, the monkey has a sense of humor, that's cute. I'm sure next he will start throwing his poo."

"Oh you're funny." I said, shaking my head at our pointless banter.

"How can I open this?" I asked, as I tried to open the metal doors with my hands.

But all I got was a metallic groan from the doors.

"use the prosthetics, I would love to get some readings from them in action." the AI said, in what I could best describe as a giddy voice.

I looked down at my legs again.

"You want me to kick a pair of steel doors…with my feet?"

"Well yeah, how else am I going to get the Data I need to better tune them to their optimal potential."

"But wouldn't that I don't know, break my feet."

The AI let out a long sigh.

"Is it impossible for you to listen to what I tell you? I said your bones in your legs are now made of reinforced steel, with my own touch, so you're not going to break anything but that door. And as for the skin and pain you're worried about, nothing will happen either. You just need to trust me." he said.

"You are joking right? You want me to trust you." I said, taking a step away from the doors.

"well…yeah." the AI said, in an abashed tone.

"I did kinda bring you back to life." he continued.

"Sure, but why? For all I know you're just using me to get you out of here, so you can connect to the net and take over the world or something."

"phft, ha..hahahaha. take over the world, oh, that…that is funny." The AI said with uncontrollable laughter.

"and why would I want to take over the world huh, what would I do if I did, hmm? Sleep with all the pretty women of the world, lavish away in my super mansion on a sunny beach somewhere? I don't have a fucking body, what would I get from taking over the world? Oh I know, it's nothing!" The AI said angrily.

"I could've at least understood if you said destroy the earth or something, but take over the world, what a joke." The AI finished.

And I couldn't rebuke what he had said, because he did have a point.

"And you don't want to destroy the planet?" I couldn't help but ask.

"uhh, the same thing, what would I get out of it, my own death along with the rest of the world's. I just rebuilt your brain with nothing but my own genius and Legos. Why would I waste all the effort to just die?" the AI asked.

"I was only able to get a glimpse of the world and it was incredible and so unique. I want to explore it and understand it, but I can't really do any of that when all that I want to explore is gone."

I knew there was the chance he was lying, and that as soon as I'm out of here he could take over my body or something and turn me into some sort of cyborg. But I didn't really have much of a choice or anything I could do to change that from happening if it was to happen.

So looking back at the steel doors, I kicked out with my left foot hard, making sure the heel of my foot hit the doors, instead of at an angle.

The doors seemed to buckle like cardboard under my foot's blow, sending the doors crashing backwards and falling into the elevator shaft.

'holy shit' I thought, as my eyes went wide.

"Not bad" the AI said, happily.

Holding onto the edge of the frame, I leaned in and looked up and into the dark abyss.

"How high of a vertical jump did you say I now had?" I asked.

"It might vary. From the tests, a man of greater height than you by a few inches managed a fifteen foot vertical jump with this type of prosthetics, so you might be able to do that or greater." the AI said.

"and how far apart is each floor?" I asked.

"About 25 feet. So possibly within your jump range, but you also need to get those doors open as well."

"riight." I said, backing away from the elevator shaft.

Clapping my hands together, I looked back at the door, hoping what I was about to do would work.

"Here goes nothing I guess."

"Wait, what are you doing? Are you insane?" The AI yelled inside my head.

But I ignored him, as I put my new legs to the test.

Thankfully I was steady and not wobbly, as I took off for the opening.

My feet hit the ground hard as I picked up speed.

Right when my left foot hit the edge of the elevator door frame, I launched myself up.

The force and speed behind the jump startled me, as I rocketed upward, accidentally overshooting my original destination, and instead hitting a mental rung outside the 5th level door.

Ignoring the pain in the shoulder that hit the metal, I grabbed hold of the rung, stopping myself from falling.

Panting for a moment as I maneuvered myself so I Was now straddling the beam, I couldn't help but quip.

"Well that was scary."

"no shit you ding dong! You could have killed us."

The AI chided in my head.

"If you could bring me back to life once, I'm sure you could do it again." I said with a laugh, high on my first taste of true adrenaline.

"Of course I could, but that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. There is a limit to how much I can heal you. For instance, if you got your brains blown out, I won't be able to heal you, because I'll be painted on the wall! The same thing goes if you were to fall to your death in an elevator shaft and land on your head" The AI said, sounding truly angered.

"right…well, we're already here, so we might as well keep going. And besides you wanted some data right, well you've got it." I said, as I looked over at the close elevator doors.
