5 Making it to the top

Getting the doors open was a lot easier then I had thought, as in jump kicking the door easy.

"Uhh, it's like I have given a gun to a baby." The AI said in my head.

"What can I say, this is kinda fun." I said with a chuckle, as the steel doors slid down the corridor.

As they slid, they kicked up a soft mist of dirt that made the hall seem cloudy.

"At least there should be stairs on this floor that will bring us to the ground floor, so you shouldn't need to do anything that might get us killed in here before I can live a little."

I ignored the annoying AI while I started making my way down the long corridor.

As I went, I again started to pass doors that led to test rooms, or offices.

As I passed one of the rooms that had the door broken off, I came to a complete halt, as I turned my head to look inside.

Laying on the floor was a skeleton.

Not a petrified body like I was expecting from the short time I had thought I had been under water.

But just a skeleton in torn and tattered clothes with the remains of a white lab coat.

The clothes were torn and whoever this person had once been seemed to have been feasted on by rats that must live down here.

I didn't say anything as I looked down at the skeleton, while my brain raced.

"Hmph, it seems we might have been in that water a lot longer than I had thought." The AI said perturbed.

"no shit" I said angrily.

"Hey, don't be angry at me." The AI rebuked. "I don't have a sense of time. To me it was only hours ago, while in reality it must have been a number of years ago."

"YEARS!" I yelled out loud, as I took a step away from the door and the skeleton.

My mind was running away from me, in a violent swirl of thoughts.

Mostly of my family.

'They must think I'm dead. It probably destroyed them. Are they okay' and on and on.

"fuck!" I yelled. The sound echoing down the corridor.

"Woah there buddy." the AI said.

"Just relax," he continued.

"Relax. You want me to fuckin relax." I yelled angrily.

"yes dumb ass, I want you to relax. Because guess what, Sure you were gone maybe a few years and your family more then certainly think you are dead. but guess what, you're alive now, and we're leaving this tomb, And before you know it, will back with them." The AI said.

And he had a point.

A few years gone, wasn't as bad as gone forever.

Repeating that thought in my head over and over again, I managed to get myself under control again.

"There you go." The AI said with a chuckle.

"Shut up." I said, still angrily at everything as I continued down the hall, not looking into any of the rooms any more.

Because now I had a mission.

Find my family and let them know I'm alive.

Finally making it to the end of the hall, I saw a door next to the steel elevator doors, with a small plaque with "stairs" on it.

Moving with purpose, I opened the doors, and started climbing.

Taking the stairs two at a time, I passed all the other levels.

But as I went, I couldn't help but ask the AI a question.

"How were you able to keep me alive Under the water for so long?" I asked.

"Well it wasn't too hard." The AI said cockily.

"you remember how I had those nanobots repair your broken neck."

"Yeah."

"I used those," he said excitedly.

" Stored in the archive I created in your brain of the information I brought over, I found a theoretical article on nanobots. They were completely delusional to think that what they planned to create nanotechnology would work. I mean really, Build small machines to build even smaller machines. Phht, What dumb asses." The AI chuckled.

"Anywho, I began by interfacing with your brain, establishing a deep connection that allowed me to communicate directly with your neural network, where I changed some of the chemicals in your brain. Then using my vast knowledge and understanding of biology, I harnessed the power of your body's natural processes to create nanobots." The AI said, while I struggled to understand a word it was saying, but before I could tell the thing I was lost, he continued.

"Instead of relying on external machines, like those dumb ass numbskulls thought would work, I tapped into your body's cellular machinery, specifically targeting stem cells. Stem cells possess the remarkable ability to differentiate into various cell types. By manipulating the genetic code within these cells, I guided their transformation into nanobots. And through precise genetic programming, I instructed the stem cells to generate nanoscale structures, incorporating specific functionalities and capabilities. Like one of the more important nanobots I created. Like the ones that were constantly repairing your decaying body, or my favorite one, The "Oxybots"." the AI said proudly.

"I designed these nanobots to mimic the functions of oxygen in the body. They can capture and store energy from alternative sources, such as light or chemical reactions, then they convert it into a form that your body utilizes for cellular respiration."

"Alright already, I think I got it." I said waving my hands in the air, as I felt a migraine coming on.

"what?" the AI said, confused. "I was just getting started."

"Yeah, but if you don't shut up, you're going to give me some sort of mental disability because I'm going to accidentally fry something up there trying to follow what you just said."

"uhh, you humans truly baffle me. Somehow your kind created me, yet people like you somehow exist." he said grumbling.

"You know, you saying that doesn't really fill me with trust right." I said, finally making it to the top of the staircase.

"Oh shut up, I already told you I'm not here to destroy the world."

"sure." I said, as I pushed open the metal door.

Entering into what was once a massive hanger that used to be nearly a mile long, I was surprised, and blinded, by the intense rays of sun that blinded me.

"Ahh fuck!" I yelled as I backed away from the intense light of the sun.

My eyes felt like small needles were pricking them, while I rubbed them.

"opps, my bad." The ass hole AI said.

"I didn't expect the sun, so I kept the nanobots in your eyes, who were magnifying any light into your eyes so you could see in almost complete darkness." he said, as I felt the tingling of moving nanobots in my eyeballs.

Blinking a few times, to get the floaties out of my eyes.

I slowly crept back to the door.

Not ready to bet the direct light, I stood in the shadow the door provided and looked out.

The base was built into a small mountain about 50 or so miles from night city.

The base had a total of 7 levels.

The very bottom level (6th level) was the server area, where they stored data.

5 and 4 were where they messed with chemicals, while 3 and 2 were where they made and tested weapons.

1 was the hanger.

The hanger is where large aircraft would land, and supplies and people would either be loaded or unloaded.

That's why it was a mile long, but the reason we called it the hanger, was because off the the side of the mile long runway, was another area, where the planes were stored, as well as most of the bases storage.

But what I saw now was nothing of what I remembered.

From the look of it, nearly half the mountain was blown into chunks of rock.

"damn!" The AI blurted out, as I looked around.

The top of the hanger that used to be about 8 stories high and made of concrete, was gone..

Instead large chunks of rock and concrete littered the ground in front of me, letting the sun shine brightly down on me.

"Fuck, they must have blown off the top of the mountain." I said as I looked at the boulders in front of me.

But not wanting to be here any longer then I needed to be, I took a step out.

What used to be the top of the mountain mixed with the concrete made for easy climbing with my new legs as I made it to the top of the first large Boulder I saw.

Looking around, I wanted to see which direction night city was in.

But all I could see from where I was, was nothing but desert.

"Which way is night city from the base?" I asked.

"West from the base."

Looking at the angle of the sun, I turned and faced the direction night city was in, but still couldn't see anything.

"It's going to take a while to get there."

"Mm, not exactly." The AI said.

"Remember your new prosthetics. They can allow you to travel much faster than any normal person. So you could theoretically make it to the edges of night city within an hour or two."

As the AI said that, a smile started to spread across my face.

[A/N]

The nanobots are created by the human body instead of small machines.

If you have any questions about them please ask and I will try to explain the best I can, but it's all imaginative, so it might take me some time to think of a theoretically correct answer to some questions.

Also, please comment here on what you think the AI's name should be. →

(preferably Nothing like killer or something like that.)

Thank you
