4 An Unexpected Thanks

"Whoever you are, I am going to pay top notch cash to make you go after anybody else!" a man in a bloody suit and a hand canon shouted as he waved the gun to the warehouse's roof. All the lights were out but one could see a distinctive shadow cruise from one beam to another.

"Am afraid that's not possible!" a chillingly cold voice said from the darkness, making the man aim towards the direction the sound came from and fired but no corpse fell down.

"Who put you upto this, huh? The Scots? The Triad? Kingpin? I can pay you more!" the man shouted.

"Your money will not save you, not this time," the voice came from another side of the beams, making the man turn to that direction. But, the car behind him was suddenly pushed, making it slid over to him and hit him across the building. When he landed, his consciousness was already fading! He turned to the direction the car came from and saw a man with a hoodie, black leather gloves, cargo pants and baseball sneakers coming over to him.

"Where is the drug money?" the mysterious man asked him as he lifted him by his collar with relative ease and now he was staring at his deep brown eyes.

"Fuck you!" the man cursed and spat blood on his face, making the mysterious man wipe it off with his right hand while his left hand held him steady in the air.

"I should have expected that," the mysterious man said then slammed the man heavily into a car's hood, knocking him unconscious. "I need to find this money." Just then, he heard the engine of a truck roar to life so he ran outside and saw an armoured truck been driven away.

"I wish I had X-ray vision or something," Brian groaned and started running after it. The driver looked behind via the rear view mirror and what he saw scared him shitless. He was currently approaching eighty miles an hour yet the man chasing them on foot was catching up on them as if they were driving a tortoise and he was in a F1 race car!

"Shit, who is this dude!" the driver shouted and just as Brian was about to overtake him, the driver swerved into his way, making Brian slow down. He tried it again with the other side but the driver did the same.

"Fine, a battle of brains, huh?" Brian challenged then looked at the towing hook at the back of the truck. He smiled to himself, got hold of it then dug his feet into the ground as he pulled backwards! The truck came to a sharp deceleration that sent everyone inside it to the floor. With a little more effort, Brian stopped the car but his muscles were starting to feel th strain.

"Didn't know that would work," Brian sighed in relief, hands on his knees. He then looked behind and saw the small trench he made in the road. "Shit, I don't think I have enough pennies to pay for that." He then looked at the truck as he walked to the front where he tapped at the windscreen.

"Hey, bad guys? I think you destroyed the road. If you give me a couple million dollars we might call it even," he said to the driver and passenger who were looking at him in horror. The driver's eyes suddenly had a gleam, a resolute gleam and pressed on the gas pedal after changing the gears. The truck roared to life and shot forward, ready to hit Brian who was not expecting this move.

"Oh no!" Brian sighed as the metallic hood smashed into him but what happened next was being the two guys' expectation. Brian dug his fingers into the hood and his feet dug inches into the road. Brian roared in determination as he pushed back with all his strength, making the truck slow down significantly to a stand still after a full block but the wheels were still digging to the ground, the truck trying its to run him over.

"What the fuck is this guy!" the driver cried out when he saw this.

"Fuck this shit, I'm out!" the passenger cried out. Suddenly, Brian roared out in effort. In his body, he could feel his heart start to beat faster and faster, his blood going to every organ in an accelerated way and with it, an unexplainable warmness spread all over his body. Where he was previously almost about to give in, he had enough strength to spare now. So, he roared with more machismo as everyone watched in awe or horror (two people inside the truck) as he lifted the whole truck and smashed it onto the ground with its roof. Needless to say, they were not going anywhere now. He sighed in relief before going to the back and tearing off the two doors, revealing a well arranged stack of money and crates after crates of drugs!

"This should be enough to put these guys inside until they give up their buyers," Brian said to himself then looked back inside the cabin where the two men were unconscious. Just then, he heard the police sirens and knew he had little time to get away from here. He looked around for somewhere to hide and saw some pedestrians waiting for a bus waving at him. He walked over calmly as they made way for him to the centre where they hid him from the corpse then a middle aged man offered him a cap which he graciously accepted. The cops arrived the same time as the bus and they all got into it and it drove off as the cops started clearing the area.

"What you did here, you might not know just how significant it was, but to us with kids at home, it means the world. You just made sure there are less drugs in the Harlem streets making our children safe," the man who gave him a cap told him.

"Thank you, this is the first time anyone has ever thanked me in person. It means a lot that someone is actually recognizing my hard work," Brian told him, but making sure the cap was still as low as possible.

"Nonsense, a lot of Harlem people are actually your fans. You took down a whole gang of those snakes yesterday, making the street a little safe for our sons and daughters. We do not ask much but they mean the world to us," a woman in her thirties told him, squeezing his shoulder lovingly. Brian nodded then got up, ready to get off, that's when he remembered he didn't have the cash. He looked at the driver who was looking at him expectantly for him to drop the coins.

"Listen, dude, I don't carry money when I go out to fight crime,"

"And I don't care. You enter my bus you pay or I call the cops!" the driver shouted back. Brian was distressed and he knew he couldn't run off because it would compromise all his goodwill. But then, a woman in a nurse's uniform came forward.

"I'll pay for his bus fare," she said and dropped the coins. The driver grunted and looked back to the road as they got off.

"Thanks for that," Brian told her.

"Yeah, just bring the bus fare next time," she said.

"Sorry, I wasn't expecting that I would be using one. Other times I just do this," Brian said then super leaped, scaling a five storey building in one bound, leaving her shocked and impressed. "What's your name?" Brian shouted.

"Emily Banks," she shouted back.

"Nice to meet you, Emily. Thanks for earlier, I will find a way to repay you," Brian shouted then leaped onto the roof of a taller building.

"At least he recognizes help instead of being a celebrity and call it a fan doing him a favour. Shit, I will be late for work now that I just got off two blocks from the hospital," she said and started running.
