8 Chapter 8: In Search of a Book

I was running.

I don't where I was running to, but I do know what I was running from.

Hedrif.

The demon that I hate so much. The demon that makes me feel disgusted whenever I think about him. The demon that will kill me on my birthday. The demon that I want to completely obliterate the existence of.

I stopped hearing the footsteps that were chasing me. I stop running. Looking around myself, there was no sound. Then there was nothing. No light. No noise. Just an empty void of darkness. And in that void a face was created. It stared at me with it's pitch black eyes and with it's mouth it spoke.

[??: Order will return to this world.]

I woke up in a cold sweat. What was that? That voice isn't one that I can remember of. "Order will return to this world." What the hell does that mean? I already have to deal with Hedrif, is this another bullshit thing I have to worry about now.

I'll find out sooner or later. Or maybe it was just a dream and it meant nothing. Sadly, I do not think that is the case. With all the things that are going on right now, this is probably another obstacle for me to think about. But it is also something that I do not have time for at the moment because today I have date with the library.

I got out of bed and thought about breakfast.

[MC: I could make breakfast for myself, but I'm not that hungry. I can wait until dinner, to be honest. Maybe I will wait for dinner. Yeah, until dinner I'll be in the library. Simon said he was going to be gone for most of the day, so I'll have the library all to myself.]

I get dressed and head to Simon's room, where the hidden library is at.

[MC: Now I wonder how many secrets this place has.]

I lit the candle and went down the stairs.

The library is huge. It's at least twenty meters tall and has the same area of the house above it. The amount of books in the library is enormous too. With sixteen rows of books on both sides, totaling 32 rows of books in all. Some rows are ten meters tall and others reach the ceiling of the library. Each shelf is 35 to 40 centimeters tall. Meaning that there is about 30 to 50 shelves per row. And the rows were about 15 meters in length. Books were on both sides of every row.

[MC: I wonder how big other libraries are, if this one is owned by someone who lives in the wilderness.]

Usually one would think that it would be a pain in the ass to look through all of these books. But, luckily for me, Simon likes to keep things as neat as possible. So the book(s) I'm looking for would either be with the books of history or biology/zoology. And they are all alphabetically in order.

I start looking for the book or many books about demons. If I want any chance at beating Hedrif, it'll be after I learn about him.

I go to the history section first. This is one of the largest sections or is the largest section this library has. I go to the beginning of the section, at A.

Going down the row, B came up then C, and finally D. Now, I search this area until I find the word "demon". It won't take that long to find it. I look around to find "de", which wasn't hard to find at all and look for "demon" in a section within a section.

There it is, the first book I found is called, "Demons of the War". Sounds like an entertaining book, rather than a history book. But if Simon put it here, then it has to be a history book. I take a glance at the content inside and surely enough it is a book about the hundred year war between the humanoid races and the demons and devils. I'll take it for now. Next I'll look for a book about demon biology, then look for a book about the different types of demons.

I have two books in total. For some reason, this entire library has very little things about demons. One of the books was the one I found first, about the history of demons and the other is about the different types of demons. The biology one was kind of pointless when this one tells me all that is known about the demons.

The one about the different demons was literally called, "Different Types of Demons". I'll go through this book first to find out what kind of demon Hedrif is.

I opened the book to the first page. Then flip the first couple of pages.

[MC: Damn it. There's no table of contents.]

All the books I've read in this library so far has had a table of contents page. So why does this book not have one. *sighs*

There's no point in fussing about it. I just have to find Hedrif's species, it won't be that hard at all. It's just going through a hundred thousand page book, it won't take long at all. I started to go through the pages really fast.

The amount of pages for each demon is weird. Some demons have a single page for themselves and others have multiple. I also figured out that demon have a class system. It depends on how many tails they have and there are ten classes. From the lowest to highest it goes: 9th=1 tail, 8th=2 tails, 7th= 3 tails, all the way to 1st, which is nine tails. Every demon with more than 9 tails, is considered a demon lord.

I remember that Hedrif has 3 tails, so that means that he is only in the 7th class. I guess that's better than it could've been.

I skip ahead to the pages of the seventh class. To where I'll find Hedrif.

[MC: It should be somewhere in this part of the book.]

Found it. There it was, completely drawn out and a couple pages long.
