5 Chapter 5: A Bloody Message

I woke up to a loud bang in the kitchen. Unsure of what to do, I grabbed my sword. I slowly and silently open my door. I take a look downstairs. Should I go check it out? Should I get Simon? Oh wait, that bang might've be Simon, but what if it's not. What if it's something else?

I remember the meeting that happened a month ago. My hand started to violently shake just by thinking about it. I decide to check it out.

I step down the first step, then my second, next my third. I went down on the fourth step, it squeaked. The stair squeaked. Of course it had to squeak, just my luck. I grab onto the sword with my other hand. I continue down the stairs, as soon as the kitchen came into view I scanned the area.

There was nothing. I know I heard something, there has to be something here. I walk all the way down and check the area more clearly. There was still a whole bunch of nothing. I took a deep breath and walked back to my room.

Simon didn't wake up to it, so maybe it was in my head.

[MC: Man, I'm going insane.]

I open the door to my room. What I saw knocked the living soul inside of me. Above my bed were written the words, "YOUR DECISION", in what smelled and looked like animal's blood.

I stared at it for a good hour, before cleaned it off and went to bed. The choice I should make is obvious, but I don't want to obey to something I don't want to do. I shouldn't have to. Though, that is what makes a demon a demon.

I couldn't sleep after that, it was all I could think about now. My decision is to sacrifice myself and save Simon, but what if that demon goes back on his word. What if he decides that he wants to kill Simon after all? Then what? I sacrificed myself for nothing, that's what would happen.

But there is a chance that the demon is telling the truth and he won't kill Simon. If that's true, then I should sacrifice myself.

[MC: Ah! I don't know what to do!]

I think of all the possibilities that could happen. Five. I can think of three things that are more likely going to happen and two things that are least likely. I agree to my sacrifice and he leaves Simon alone. I agree to the sacrifice and he kills Simon too. I don't agree with the sacrifice and he kills us both. I don't agree and he kills Simon, but not me. Or, I don't agree and he kills me, but leaves Simon alone.

The one I'm mostly hoping for, is that both me and Simon will survive. I wish.

I sighed.

[MC: Two months. Two months, until my birthday. Two months, until I make my final decision. Two months, until I make a decision. Two months, until I die. In just two months.]

I don't like this deal. Who would? Other than the demon, who'll gain something no matter what.

[Food's ready!]

I jumped out of bed. Food's ready? I look out of my window, it was already morning. So much time had passed, I guess that's good. I didn't want to think about that any longer.

I walked down to the kitchen and sat down at the table. Fried eggs, strips of bacon, and a biscuit. The one who made it all, was standing on the other side grinning all happily.

[MC: You think you can make better food than me?]

[Simon: We'll see, won't we.]

I picked up the fork. True, it certainly looked better than usual. But there is no possible way that he surpassed me in cooking. I stabbed the egg. The egg burst with the slightest touch. As the yolk flowed throughout the rest of the plate, soaking everything else.

[MC: There is no way that this can be good.]

I got the egg on my fork and shoved the entire thing in my mouth. The flavor exploded in my mouth.

[MC: I-It's not that good.]

I don't want to admit it, this is clearly superior to my eggs. Next is the bacon. Will it be just as good as the eggs? I picked up the bacon with my hand and I let sit on my tongue for a moment before I ate it. It was disgusting. I tried the biscuit, it was also disgusting.

[MC: What the hell did you do? The egg was really good, but the other were just gross. I can't even put it into words.]

He smiled deviously.

[Simon: I know, I made them as gross as possible. I wanted you to admit that the egg was good.]

Damn it. That was the last thing I wanted to do.

[MC: No I didn't. I am merely saying that compared to the rest of the food, the eggs were good.]

[Simon: See, you even said it was good. I win.]

[MC: No I said, that the eggs were better than the rest of the food that was on this plate.]

He's always like this. Whenever I say something, or forget to say something. He tries to bring it back to his advantage. It gets annoying sometimes.

[Simon: Then what was the, "It's not that good" thing about.]

He got me. But, before it can turn into a fight about who makes better food. I stood up.

[MC: I'm going to go now.]

I put the plate and fork in the sink and went back to my room.

It was there again, "YOUR DECISION".

I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. I have to hide this and fast. I grab my blanket and stood up on my bed, covering up the words. There was a knock on the already opened door.

[Simon: Two things. Do you want to go hunting with me later today? And, what are you doing?]

[MC: Sure and uhh um-]

An excuse, I need any excuse.

[MC: I'm just admiring my blanket that you made for me. What is it made out of again? Cotton? Animal hide? Both?]

[Simon: Right... It's made out of both. Okay, see you later.]

[MC: See you later.]

Simon walked away, almost immediately I dropped my blanket and rushed to close my door. I took a deep breath. I hate this secrecy thing.

I've been hating a lot of things lately.

Two months left.
