4 Chapter 4: A Twist of Events

I had an early start today. I woke up before the sun shined and I got prepared to go hunting. I'll hunt down the biggest animal in this forest, an elk. I'm going to prove to Simon that I can do things on my own and he doesn't need to be there every step of the way.

I grab my bow, my arrows, and my hunting knife. I grab some stuff that'll mask my scent and get ready to walk out the door.

[MC: I should at least leave him a note.]

I turn around and write a short note, saying that I left. Now, I walk out the door and get prepared to hunt.

I eat an orange on my way to the hunting area, in this world they're called "guinepes". I think this world's oranges are juicer than my last one. I throw the peelings on the ground and start looking for elk tracks.

About an hour later I finally found some fresh elk prints. I follow the trail to a little opening in the forest, where the elk was standing right in the middle.

I raise my bow and grab an arrow. I slowly pull back on the string with arrow in place. I waited silently, waiting for the right moment to release. I'm waiting for the moment it raises it's head, so that I can get one quick kill.

The elk continues to eat, I can wait all day if I needed to. That's when the elk finally raised it's head. I aim and fire.

What happened next happened so quickly. The elk stopped the arrow that was going at full speed. But the elk, was not an elk. It started to change into something else. The fur started to turn pitch black, both of it's eyes separated into three each, the tail turned into three cat-like tails. Each of it's legs split into two, totaling in eight legs. It has a really muscular feline look to it.

It's the same monster that killed my parents, eleven years ago.

[??: Finally, I get to meet you. I knew that you would eventually come hunting by yourself, now I can have a talk with you.]

The monster's voice was deep and scratchy. I don't like it. I don't like this monster. I don't like it's voice. I don't like the way he is speaking to me. I don't like it.

[??: I guess I should introduce myself. My name is-]

He started to speak something that sounded like a whole bunch of gibberish.

[??: In you humans' language it is pronounced, Hedrif.]

That's better, a lot better in fact.

[MC: Well, Hedrif. I am Orion.]

Hedrif stared at me with his six eyes. I silently shiver. What does he want? Why is he speaking to me? The very monster that killed my parents, speaking to me as if didn't do it.

[MC: What do you want?]

There was a moment of silence, before he gave his answer.

[Hedrif: I came to make a deal with you.]

A deal? What sort of deal is it? I don't want to make a deal with this thing. I doubt it'll be any good for me.

[Hedrif: If you sacrifice yourself to me, then I will not kill that guardian of yours. If you don't agree to this deal, then I'll kill the both of you. You have three months to decide what you'll do.]

So much for a peaceful life. I suppress my emotions and put on my best poker face I can.

[MC: Why do I have to do this? Is there any real reason? Or do you just feel like torturing me?]

[Hedrif: I wonder... I just feel like it, I suppose.]

[MC: Then how come you didn't kill me eleven years ago when I was just a child. There has to be a reason for that.]

[Hedrif: I'm surprised you can remember that long ago, but to answer your question. I just wanted to wait, because babies don't taste as good as older people. When I say older I mean like ten to twenty human years.]

[MC: Okay, then I'll have my definite answer in three months.]

[Hedrif: One more thing, you can't speak of this meeting with anyone. If you do I'll instantly kill that person.]

In a blink of an eye he disappeared. Three months, that happens to be my birthday. I feel sick, in three months I will die. That's nerve breaking, I am going to die on my next birthday. The pressure made me snap and I started to laugh like a madman.

[MC: Three months. Three months! Hahahahahahahahahahaha...]

I started to cry when I realize how short that time is and how fast it'll be. I lie down on the ground and look up in the sky. I closed my eyes and began to think.

*************************

When I opened my eyes it was already turning dark.

[MC: I guess I should get back now.]

I grab all my things and headed home. I saw a couple of animals on my way home, but I couldn't think straight enough. Maybe that was all a dream and nothing is really going to happen. No, that was to realistic for it to be a dream.

That demon's voice is echoing in my head, playing on repeat. I can't tell if it's my imagination or if he is actually repeating himself in my head.

I walk into my house. Simon was nowhere to be seen, probably went hunting himself. I put all my things in my room. My stomach started to growl.

[MC: Maybe there is something in the pantry.]

I walk down to the kitchen and begin my raid in the pantry. I found nothing but saltine crackers. Now that I think about it, where does Simon get all of his snacks.

That's a question for another time. For now, I am going to enjoy these crackers.

After I ate, I went to go wash myself and get ready for bed. I looked around the house just to make sure Simon didn't fall asleep in a strange place. Once I was sure, I went to bed and got more sleep.

Three months until my birthday.
