1 1) A day like any other?

I always thought of myself as normal, mostly (I'll get back to that). My days started the same, get up, take a shower, brush my teeth, grab an apple and head to work. Work 3.5 hours, take a lunch break, go back finish my shift. Head home, some times I would need to stop at the local foodmart to get some groceries, make myself dinner, read a book or watch TV for a few hours, then head to bed, see normal.

That all change on what I thought was a regular Wednesday. I remember the day of the week, because George, the office clown, was saying his stupid camel jokes in the break room. So there I was lamenting the fact my cubicle was to close the break room, when I heard the TV start broadcasting the emergency response, which I promptly ignored thinking it was a test. I didn't know anything was wrong until the people in the break room started pushing, shoving, running and screaming for the emergency exit. This prompted me to go into the now vacant break room and check what was wrong.

Some might ask why not follow everyone else? My response is, and will always be, "Just because everyone else is panicking does not make it the correct response." See that's where the mostly normal part comes in, my therapist told me I am a high functioning Sociopath, this means my instincts drive me to look for a cause of an event before making a decision.

Anyway, back to the break room, I walk in and see a total mess, food left behind, either on tables counters or even dropped on the floor in a couple places. I notice that the TV is on the news and the anchor is not our local broadcaster, but CNN. Which I think is odd seeing as we normally watch Fox, or CBS around here. That's when I notice the caption on the broadcast stating a comet is on course to strike Earth within 5 minutes. I think to myself, "Someone's about to have a really bad day." When the timer is down to about 30 seconds the news anchor reports that NASA predicts it will hit just south of Lake Michigan. I have just enough time to think, "Maybe I shouldn't have transferred to the Chicago branch" before which the building I'm standing in is vaporized.
